Nexus was first in line to get update and always came out with latest OS. Where Android One is already one generation behind and waiting to get update at due time. Hardware wise Nexus used to come out with latest one and the Android One is using lower middle end hardware (SD 625/630), not even SD660. Both hardware and software department it's lacking. So No.

Arthur Ho, 15 Oct 2017I would say no, reason? Android One was not a "Real" Google... moreExactly.
The proposal of the Xiaomi Mi A1 and Moto X4 resemble the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition.
In fact, the proposal of the project Android One was misrepresented with these two devices, since it was to stimulate the production of entry-level devices with low cost but with Android direct from Google.

They are not replacing the Nexus series.
Android One now works like the old Google Play Edition project.

Lima002, 15 Oct 2017No, we need better specs on the hardware and the camera, I ... morenexus is a mid range device and not a high-end/flagship device
as far as i know the one plus is a flagship grade phone. -you are basically asking for the flagship grade this time, if you wanted the specs to be the likes then go buy the pixel instead.

AnonD-368020, 15 Oct 2017Nexus phones came with almost flagship like hardware in bud... moreFirst Nexus phones were heavily price subvented by google. Phone makers did not like it, because They were marked disturbers and google did increase the price of the phones so that They were like any other phones in that regard or even a Little bit more expensive.

Android one was watered down by manufacturers demand. It does not gurantee any upgrades. Pure Android will make upgrades easier, but it is still possible that the device does not get any update, if the manufacturer does not want to make them...
Nexus phones did give X upgrades.
The original Android one was quite near Nexus, but nobody wanted to make phones using that system.

Anyone remember that there was once gonna be a Android silver project in the works.Hope the project restarts.

It heavily depends on how google supports it how fast will they get updates how long will they get updates. The specs are pretty good if google atleast give 2 major updates it can be a great alternate to pixels for people who cant afford them and more top manufacturers should join in like Samsung, LG, Huawei so it can be better than nexus

Anonymous, 15 Oct 2017Google and usa steals all your personal data more than chin... moreThere is two purpose of data stealing 1. Security (all big government agencies have access to big social networking data like fb, WhatsApp etc) 2. Social networking companies share/sell users data to digital marketing companies so that they can advertise product of your taste which you will likely to buy. In this weather there is no data security, no privacy. If government want to search on you they will get everything which you have on internet even your private conversation too. Ever wonder why FB bought WhatsApp at such high cost which is not making any significant money till date..... for it's user DATA only.

                        They can't.
The updates come a long time after they are even published in final form.
Nexus devices had all types of a new version of Android, right from its preview one, long before the final version is out.
Not only that, but there isn't even a single Android One device that seem like an upgrade from a previous Nexus device, even today.

"Google might also be reconsidering its initial sub-$120 price point for Android One devices. After reevaluating consumer needs and desires, the price target might be shifted up to the $100-$200 range. This will give OEMs a lot more room for feature implementation and hardware improvements, while still retaining the original idea of an affordable package."

Didn't vote! Android One just isn't any more affordable these days. As soon as they changed which consumers these devices were supposed to be targeting, they lost sight of their aim of providing smartphones to the masses. They've recently gone the Nexus route in terms of pricing, I can tell you that much. As for its functionality, it's too early to claim that these latest generation of Android One phones will function or will be supported strongly and similarly as with yesterday's Nexuses.

Pia, 15 Oct 2017Google never co develop design and hardware on nexus lineup... moreYou may read more from Wikipedia, Google did co-develop the Nexus line with the OEM, they only did not carried their own branding, on the other hand, the Android One line is indeed Google only loaded up their OS.

i dont think so. Nokia 6 or 8 is more relative for Nexus Line.

It can or should have worked out OK since 2014 when it was propped up but how do we even know which side of the equation isn't playing ball? Google or the partner OEMs? At this point I believe Google now has every incentive to gimp or nerf down Android One to safeguard their Pixel interest.

Logically speaking to cover the lower price points without having to resort to producing separate models other than Pixels themselves, Google should have played it smart and keep the Android One option open aggressively.

Xiaomi users currently could send a very loud message towards both Google and Xiaomi by opting for Mi A1, where the sales figure in turn may yet become a cascading effect for other OEMs to consider bringing into the Android One fray with competitive propositions.

Arthur Ho, 15 Oct 2017I would say no, reason? Android One was not a "Real" Google... moreGoogle never co develop design and hardware on nexus lineup...they only develop the OS...Pixels is their first attempt to get involved in design and hardware and the rest is history...

                                      Yes and No.
The Mi A1 is pretty much the most capable Android One yet. It is good to see this, producing a decent mid-range with stock Android.

However, this is the most capable available while the Nexus devices are flagship phones. I would like to see an Android One with better hardware such as a camera with OIS and an OLED display.

While stock android is ideal, I've noticed that Google is almost as bad as Samsung when it comes to bloatware on my Nexus 5. I cannot remove apps such as Google Earth, Street View, Google Plus, Hangouts, Docs, Sheets, Slides, News and Weather, Newstand, and more. These apps are system apps that can't be hibernated. When I bought a new phone and installed a ROM on the N5, I was surprised how much faster and still capable it is while having a lot more free space!

I would say no, reason? Android One was not a "Real" Google phone, who do I say so? Simple.

Google Nexus, as it mention, was a Google phone, while it is not a "Google Phone" as the Pixel line, and they co-develop it with OEM and doesn't has their own branding, it was still a Google Phone where Google design both the hardware and software while let the rest of it carried on by the partner OEM, which is why they would get every new major OS together with their Pixel sibling. You may even find the original update images on their own website, the Nexus line run a complete Google software in it.

On the other hand, Android One was simply Google pickup the existing smartphone, and install their software, which is why many of these phone still consist the original OEM software. They won't get the fast update treatment compare to the Nexus line.

If Pixel was Google favourite son and Nexus was their least favourite and second son, I would say Android One was their adopted son, where they won't get a fair treatment compare to both Pixel and Nexus.
