Huawei Mate 10 Pro vs. Mate 9 camera shootout

17 October 2017
We've decided to make a quick shootout around Munich between the new and the old Mate and see if there is a big difference or not.

Please try the p10 plus cs mate 10 pro. Bc p10 plus has a better camera than mate 9 pro. And I would love to see if it's really an upgrade.

It's a PINHOLE smartphone camera sensor...it is what it is, leave it at that.
Love every time a new smartphone is released, countless articles on the camera.
Zoom in, and you'll see how bad the DETAIL is.
(I have 3 Huawei phones...Mate2,8,9) They don't do too bad, but it is what it is.

Honestly, i don`t know if the guys from gsmarena know how to set up the camera from mate 9. I just played today with this beauty (mate 9) & i`m impressed. Not the level of GS8 or Note 8 but it`s a good camera. When i look at this photos uploaded here i do think they are made with a camera from 4-5 years ago.
Maybe it helps that i have as a hobby photography, and i always use manual settings.
The photos i took today were sharper and more on point, without all that noise.
It`s not a sensational camera... but better than you ppl let to believe! PERIOD

This better be some sort of screw-up at the Huawei software department, where they accidentally put some early alpha image processing in the Mate 10. The performance is abysmal compared to the Mate 9. It shouldn't even be possible for it to be worse with the hardware improvements it's gotten.

Camera is complete crap its way oversharpening and looks completely trash. I was hyped for mate10 pro but they completely killed it still I hope its just because of pre production software

Lol the commentators here don't realize the initial images are cropped images of the bigger image shown below. Yea the cropped images show the over sharpening but the actual full image is different story.

Mate 9 folks trying to justify not upgrading to mate 10.

Sadly none of phone that have BW second camera, like all Huawei phones, make good bokeh effect.
Because Even if phone have two cameras, BW one dont do anything at all. Its a matter of taking pictures with cover lens, and if phone detect that its a matter of focusing light on BW lens to fool camera.
I really like camera on my P9 and my brother love its camera in P10, but none of them use secondary lense to boost details or make good bokeh effect. Even BW images are not that impressive compared to edited color photos to look like BW(desaturation + few tweaks).

                  I almost can't believe it.

The Mate 9 is unanimously better than the mate 10. In some images, the Mate 9 captures more raw detail, while the Mate 10 (while not capturing any additional detail) seems to be deploying a high level of over-sharpening that makes every picture look over-processed. Even in the low-light, the Mate 9 images are better, despite the f1.6 vs f2.2 disadvantage.

So much for that over-hyped NPU and AI non-sense.....

to my own eyes, the Mate 9 consistently showed much better pictures. whatever reason the Mate 10 has for oversharpening like this and having extreme contrast, this doesn't appeal very much.

XxoxX, 18 Oct 2017oh men, poor Huawei...i mean so much hype around Kirin 970 ... moreJajajajajajajajaja that's right men

Mate 9 - impressive shooter, and everything was just starting to warm up and get even better
P10 - OKAY shooter, probably just as good as the Mate 9, but that's also the problem as it shows little to no advantage at all compared to the last year's flagship device
P10 Plus - sounds interesting with same dual camera setup but brighter f1.8 lenses, but then again doesn't live up the expectations, as low light pictures were indeed shot at much lower ISO but poorly processed
Mate 10 - here's to hope that the issues are just pre-production software-related things only, because no way is the successor inferior to the predecessor

Men, igual don't think i'm the only one that thinks this way but most of the images are better in the Mate 9, the only ones in wich i saw a better result in the Mate 10 is in some of the images with pretty poor light, but again, no all of them

So Mate 10 is better than Mate 9 in most cases, just the oversharpening ruins it sometimes.

btw, you should fix two things in your article:
                            - You should write "Mate 10" instead of "Mate 10 Pro", as there's no difference in the camera between the two. People could get the wrong impression that the camera in the Mate 10 Pro is any different, or even better, than the Mate 10.

                            - Camera aperture is f/1.6, not f/1.7, as you wrote.

thanks for the comparison. I'm very happy with my Mate 9 camera results. The Mate 10 Pro camera images look disappointing to me: over sharpened a lot, like Samsung. So, seeing the Mate 10 Pro results, I really hope the upcoming Oreo update for the Mate 9 will not affect the camera software of the Mate 9...

oh men, poor Huawei...i mean so much hype around Kirin 970 and Mate 10, and Mate 9 is better overall than Mate 10.

If i want a phne and need it so much i will choose Mate 9 with my eyes closed all day long.

maybe Mate9 looks better. Mate10 is oversharpenning?
