HTC Desire will not be updated to Gingerbread

14 June, 2011
Bad news HTC Desire owners, HTC has just announced it won’t update the original Desire with Android 2.3 Gingerbread due to insufficient memory. You are now stuck with Froyo forever. Ok, this forever thing...

And that is why i go with Samsung now,i wouldn't buy the desire but, galaxy s wasn't yet available and couldn't wait so i buyed the desire.
I was always frustrated about the low memory but it was a ok phone for a few months, but now im rocking with my galaxy s2 i have thought about the evo 3d but still not available and the galaxy s2 has double the equipment of the evo 3d so maby next year.

p.s. I think the desire can run gingerbread, but they want u to buy a new phone, great plan but then,u need ur flagships ready, and it is not. So FAILED big time costumers go to the competition

There has to be an exact time period that all Android devices has to support till the end of it. Lets say 2 years. Consumers has to know how long his/her device can go till death.

You're paying as much as a high-end laptop price and is outdated in 1 year ? not fair.

yeah, the same crap with htc hero,, they said that the hardwear coudn't support froyo while we saw froyo running on lesser qvga mobiles with no probs or what so ever! that's why i learned the lesson and stayed away from HTC! they wanted us to throw hero and buy legend or desire, but i could see this coming: HTC DUMBING THEIR OLD PHONES TO FORCE U BUY A NEWER ONE! well guess what, i bought a new one and it wasn't an HTC!

That sucks big time. I sort of accepted the same BS for "old" Wildfire (even though ppl are running Gingerbread on it just fine). But i just don't get it why they are refusing to give Desire the update it deserves. After all Desie was a flagship product for HTC not so long ago. This is a great way to lose your customers. Apparently HTC wants that.

I've got a Desire and and I think that this is another example of the programmed obsolescence.

Nahh..thats the bigest bulshit for this year..

                        not enough memory?
                        desire z with 512 mb
                        x10 with 384 mb
                        ONCE AGAIN, NOT ENOUGH MEMORY?

I think HTC should fired all of their developers and hire all of xda-developers crew..
They can make 2.3 custom rom with htc sense that htc developers theyself just shout of not enough memory..

Just got my Desire HD upgrade to gingerbread. Lets be honest there was NO difference, not even in speed. Maybe a few bugs got ironed out.
Because of sense the new gingerbread keyboard was not available. But i had been using iterations available from the market for quite sometime before!
It really isnt a loss. But it is a shame that HTC isnt upgrading their MOST successful phone.
I'd still buy HTC in the future.
Although i did steer clear of the HTC Flyer and went for the Transformer instead.

But I have my cm7 2.3 so go to hell htc.

htc desire is place for gingerbred ang gingerbred + sense, but not for gingerbred + sense + operator bloatware.
go to xda-developers and get your update.

Felt cheated after hearing this news, when nexus can be updated to 2.3 gingerbread and wildfire s can handle it, so why not desire.. just to promote their new handsets HTC has decided not to float gingerbread on their existing desire. Won't be buying any new HTC device from now onwards though I use to be a die hard fan of HTC.. really disgusting on HTC's part.

if of course, if you can and then CyanogenMod HTC not? then to hire engineers to work in CM7 HTC and teach them to make ROMS. is ridiculous
