Anonymous, 15 Jun 2011right so you have a froyo firmware equipped handset? , does... moreObsolescent. It's barely 12 months old! A right to updates? Well yes actually. Thats what we purchase the hardware for. Just because I buy a PC from Dell that is one generation before the current one doesn't mean I cannot upgrade from XP or Vista to 7. What I also find suprising is that it has taken them so long to annouce this. I consider this nothing less than a lie so they can make you update your hardware. What happens if you are only half way through a 24 month contract!? Frankly HTC are being arrogant and complacent and regard users as an infurating nuisance. Not a problem. LG, Samsung etc are more than happy to take them!

AnonD-1180, 15 Jun 20116 month ago HTC announce that HTC Desire will get Gingerbre... moreright so you have a froyo firmware equipped handset? , does it work? , can it make calls? do all its functions work currently?

if the above answers are yes, which they should be on froyo then what is the problem? if youre that depserate for 2.3 root and flash it.

I really would like to see people get it out of there heads that they have a god given right to an updates on older near obsolencent items, you bough the handset near to its point of retirement hence its cheapness, be glad you dont build pcs

Fongy, 15 Jun 2011This is very unfortunate, and it's one of the reasons when ... morethat htc hero was like waiting to win the lottery it was promised an upgrade for over a year, what a joke.Anyway their loudspeakers, microphones and cameras are very poor quality.

6 month ago HTC announce that HTC Desire will get Gingerbread 2.3. This is the reason I get this phone.I'm only a student and not working so HTC Desire is a cheaper alternative, because Samsung Galaxy S is very expensive. Now I don't even dare to tell this news to my father!! HTC you promise us but you break your promise! This is sad very sad.Make me loss confidence

Clearly, as others Have already Said, a cheap marketing move to increase sales on it's newborn desire S. HTC Have gone from best to worst in terms of supporting it's customers.

Still, after all these months since the confirmation on the update, one would think they should've come up with a better excuse. Why Not blame global warming instead? It's validity is almost the same

suddenly SE X10 looks so much better :) SE at least listens to its fans and high-end phone owners. btw. these phones were released about the same time. Just few more weeks and 2.3.3 for X10 is here I guess, making it a top-notch phone again.. ;)

This is very unfortunate, and it's one of the reasons when I recently upgraded I chose to stick with Samsung and not HTC - after being burned with the Hero a few years ago, Sense is taking its toll - there are so many free UIs out there, that, in my opinion easily rival or even beat Sense - yet having such a thing prevents updates...
Touchwiz is admittedly pretty poor - but in a click you can get rid of it and enjoy multiple updates AND a fantastic UI..
HTC really need to get on top of this, otherwise they're going to lose a LOT of fans...
                      Shame...

Disappointment and anger, this is what I feel right now about HTC. I will never buy a new HTC again and I would never recommend it to anyone. Those of you who are thinking of buying a new HTC smartphone of the S series please don't do so because you will face the same HTC policy in the future when the next version of android will be released.

I am HTC desire user. It is really bad news for me as I want to upgrade my desire. I do not beleive the story of short of memory casued the upgrade issue. It is all about of HTC marketing plan. But I do not like HTC lie to us about the truth.
Yes, HTC just wants us to buy another new phone for gingerbread, But for me, the new phone will not be HTC anymore.
