HTC Desire will not be updated to Gingerbread

If HTC's motive was to get Desire users to buy new phone, then they have just sawed off the same branch they were sitting on because now most people will probably opt for something other than an HTC and seems Samsung is the beneficiary.
They would have done better if they had not announced the upgrade in the first place. People wouldn't have had expectations.

Even Samsung's low-end Android phones (Galaxy Mini, Gio, Fit) will get the Gingerbread update.
My Galaxy Gio has only 181MB of internal memory and 278MB of RAM. The Desire has 512MB(!) of internal memory and 576MB(!) of RAM. So yeah...
Fortunately you Desire owners can use custom ROMs. I can't. Yet.

LMFAO....This is hilarious; A phone that is only 14 months old being abandoned by a company which is supposedly renown for updating their handsets. The real fun begins later this year, when people realize the phone they purchased less than 6 months ago will never be updated beyond Gingerbread, due mainly to the strict hardware requirements of ICECREAM sandwhich...LOL...

[deleted post]Wow xYan, where do I start?
Firstly it's RAM not ROM. If it was ROM it would be pretty useless for the OS to use.
Secondly, Samsung doesn't have 16GB of RAM, that's the available storage space, which is completely separate from the memory (RAM). It's like your computer. An average computer has got about 2-6GB RAM these days, and the hard drive storage can be anywhere from a few GB to many TB.

Well considering how old the device is and it's internal it wasn't too surprising. Maybe it'll be able to receive ice cream as that was Google's answer to fragmentation.
