I get it now, that my mistake was comparing LCDs with OLED screens, as the burn-in effect is completely different on the hardware level. For a user though - both are annoying. :)

Just done a quick look around top models using IPS LCD and Sony is the last if you compare brightness, contrast, sunlight contrast. The only thing in which Sony is great is sharpness in its XZP. Don't get me wrong, I really like Sony (except their massive bezels - too big in my opinion) and those are fantastic phones. It's good, but it's not quite Carling

Burn in is sth else, even worse, Ive seen it on amoleds even after mere one month of use, renders the phone seriously defective with large speckson screen...
Pixel deterioration happened with status bar on my LCD phone after 3 years of use....
On oled phones it happens in two weeks to a year of use, plus the burn ins in two years of constant usage.
I should know, had an experience with Samsung oled TV that turned crap in two years. Have a LG lcd TV too...9 years and still working like charm.
Oled/amoled screen phones is 2 years tech max with constant power use.
If you want certainty of screen quality over that same time or longer, choose lcd.

It's just a phrase, I use it because that's exactly what it looks like - when you switch to an all grey picture or anything that covers the entire screen, you can clearly see the navigation buttons or for example Facebook logo on screen.

This is why I always AVOID any phone/tablet with OLED panel.
I always search for flagship with IPS LCD.
OLED? Avoid like a plague....

I really hate it when someone launches a phone with "baby problems" and then 2 years later the trolls still won't stop talking about it even though it got fixed and it's a perfectly good phone. Wouldn't it be easier to just say "it's good but don't buy a unit made before this-and-this date"? Even the first batch of my old Nokia N8 had some issue with motherboards and temperature, I don't even remember what it was about, but I got an old one and used it for 3 more years. It still works (and no burn-in that I can notice, to keep it on the subject, haha). I even think phones should be re-reviewed after a software update, and luckily GSMArena sometimes does update their reviews. My S5 looks quite different with Marshmallow than it did with KitKat, for example.

I have s4, s6 and s8 and those amoleds are best in general, and no other screen can come close to Samsung amoleds, it a fact, just face it, non other than even Apple put those screens to iPhone x. Amoled is miles ahead in efficiently, contrast, vividity of colours and on par for sure in colour accuracy, end of discussion.

I still do gal... moreIt's very likely that your S4 has some kind of burn-in (be it either discoloration, non-recognizable shapes across the screen or recognizable image), you just don't recognize it or deny it to reaffirm yourself that you purchased a phone with AMOLED screen.

The purpose of PenTile is to delay the appearance of burn in, but it doesn't solve the burn-in issue, just delays it a bit. However, it creates another problem: pixelated display. It has less pixels than what is advertised. A PenTile screen requires more nominal resolution to hide the pixelation. An RGB LCD is sharper than a PenTile AMOLED at the same resolution and size.

People do not waste your money on any Pixel devices! The build quality is literally atrocious.
I own a first gen Pixel XL, currently on my 3rd replacement.
First one made major clicking noises when using the camera (literally the lense screeching as it focuses. Can even hear it when you record a video and literally vibrates the phone.
2nd replacement , opened it up and obviously checked the camera first thing, and it fails to auto focus on any close objects!
Different camera apps, software roll back and update, factor reset or safe mode didn't fix the issue and was told to RMA yet again.
Got my 3rd handset today and will use it a couple days to see if any faults arise. Judging by the poor build quality or quality control if the past I imagine it won't be too long.
Google raved on about the camera being awesome, truth is the still images are great (Samsung s8 level) HOWEVER video recording is worse in low light compared to my 4 year old OnePlus One. Says it all.. Too much hype, No substance to back it up.
Get a s8, note 8 or iPhone 8, iPhone X . You will actually get the quality you pay for with them.

Their all G5s had problem with screen glass, it was really thin, but later they managed to fix that problem. The same thing with motherboard on LG G4. My motherboard was replaced within warranty after 6 months of use and now it is already 1.5 years and my G4 is working perfectly fine. They fixed those motherboards so i think it will be the same with display on V30.

I still do galaxy S4 and it does not have any discolorations or burn in and whatsoever, pentile matrix is used to ensure longevity of the screen itself, because subpixel less dimmer than main one, it literally probably will last year's before something goes wrong with it, 4 year and counting and looks like new, Samsung amoled panels are best and most durable, since galaxy s3 even, no competition there

And it not only means that you can recognize an UI element burned it, but it also means discoloration of the OLED screen. The pixels and subpixels aren't used equally, therefore they degrade at a different rate. The different colored subpixels also have different lifespan. So the screen will have color distortion, unequally distorted areas, etc. The new features in S8 like on-screen buttons, always-on display and the non-standard 18:9 screen aspect ratio makes the burn-in problem to appear faster. The OLED also dims faster.
