Nokia prepares 1GHz Series 40 handset with touchscreen CBD

19 June, 2011
This comes as a bit of surprise to us but it seems Nokia is working on a Series 40 handset with 1GHz processor and a ClearBlack capacitive touchscreen Display. Yes, that’s exactly the reaction...

AnonD-11222, 20 Jun 2011that means you admit that 680mhz n8 is powerful than almost... moreWrong again, Motorola Defy, Desire Z, Droid all use 800MHz Processor and will mop the floor with the N8. Like I said, the reason why the N8 beats the Samsung Ace is because the Samsung Ace uses such an old and outdated chipset/gpu. Also remember the Defy, Desire Z, droid all run at a higher resolution than the N8.

That's like saying a brand new 2012 Hyundai Elantra is more efficient than a 2001 Hyundai Elantra and making it seem as if it were such a huge daunting feat, or like saying your penis is bigger than an infant's penis and being proud of it, like i mentioned in my earlier post, Nokia fanboys in general are stupid. When they don't have something they brush it off as a not needed item; however once they start having it, they say its the best thing in the world and it only makes their stuff better.

Nokia Fanboys made fun of apple fanboys with their multitasking; now that Microsoft does not have true multitasking either they say "its okay we have the basic functions that are most important able to multitask". Hello? iOS is like that too?

Before it was because Nokia devices were so efficient, now its because its to make things better and because its "cheaper". LOL.

Android's kernel is based on linux, its software stack(used to make things run) however is Java. Why do you think android roms are relatively easy to hack and port onto other devices? If you have an understanding of how Java works and is coded you can edit said software stack.

Why S40? it can't do multitasking, so I think it will be better if they use Symbian instead of S40.

BTW, any news on the new Nokia market-disrupting-phone yet?

Jon (SWE), 20 Jun 2011Just because a OS can run on low specs doesnt mean every de... moreWeren't you fanboys saying that Android needed 1GHz+ to run? Android devices comes in any shape and form from 528MHz(g1) to 1.2GHz dual core(sensation 4G) yet you guys claim that android was power hungry and need a super computer to run LOL hypocrite much? Before when Nokia devices ran on a 680MHz your excuse was that it was super efficient. Now this announcement comes along and its because its cheaper? HAHAAHHAHA RIGHT.

So your conclusion is that Java devices do not require that much power; do you even know what language is android based on? Let me give you a clue genius, ITS JAVA.

So again, let me ask you this, you pointed out that 680MHz CPU cost just as much as 1GHz CPU these days correct? What was Nokia's reasoning for using crappy 680MHz last generation CPU on Nokia N8, C7, C6, E5, E6, E7, X7 if a newer 1GHz CPU capable of using much more efficient instruction set and charging basically the same and sometimes more than what the competition charges for their devices which in terms of hardware specs are newer and even more powerful?

You say Symbian^3 and Meego devices are super efficient and that 680MHz is ENOUGH to run it but would benefit from increase speed, so again why did Nokia not use higher clocked CPU if they cost basically the same?

Also MeeGo is slow as crap, the only thing Meego runs decently on is intel ATOM CPU because its much more powerful than ARM.

[deleted post]Just because a OS can run on low specs doesnt mean every device has to have low specs.
Besides... at this point 1GHz soc's are probably not even more expensive than the 680Mhz ones, that nokia have used... as those 1Ghz are produced at much larger volumes.

And since symbian and meego both are smartphones systems, there is always use for speed improvments.

however this rumour talks about a 1Ghz S40 device. and S40 is a featurephone java based os, which has no real need for that kind of processing... the only logical reason would be that nokia got a soc. that can handle HD video recording. And for a smooth result and some videomanipulation, the ram would come in handy.

AnonD-1131, 20 Jun 2011I find it funny that just a few years ago, when Apple intro... moreMost Nokia fan-boys are no longer fan-boys, due to the decisions nokia made earlier this year.
Nokia fan-boys were fans of symbian, and liked the idea of MeeGo.

The old nokia fan-boys would still complain about the multitasking.. which is really bad on iOS, WP7, and even android. Non of them has real multitasking, where the user is in control.

Im not a nokia fanboy...but i did like the idea of MeeGo... Guess I have to look for in from another manufactor.
And i did like that Nokia made the N8, and hopefully it will lead to some other cameraphones coming to the market soon.
So i've been in threads for nokia devices... and Ive seen many old fanboys say that their next device probably wont be a Nokia. And a whole lot others are just quiet... probably hoping that nokia still will deliver, and that there will be many symbian units, and some MeeGo ones as well... cause at this point in time, they really dont have any other brand and OS, to deliver what they were used to getting.

This is exciting! Well everyone's complaining about the UI but that's the only flaw of Nokia's feature phones. Fix that and their back! These impressive specs are one step to the right direction! Exciting!

Also: Based on Nokia's roadmap house and recent releases, there's:
                          C1,C2,C3-C5,C6,C7 then
                          X1 X2,X3-X5,X6,X7 and
E5,E6,E7,N8,N9 and an S and T from China.

Anyone knows why they skipped "4"

However Android is a lot more customizable. And lately has more application in Android Market than AppStore.

Too mad for symbian however, new Nokia phones will bring a new life to Nokia itself. And that's cool enough to think in get a new phone from Nokia, but is will be more wyse wait for the WP7 Nokia release.

I hv tested iphone4G and android.
iphone4G is too simple and android is too complicated.
Symbian is a good software but need some update in UI and applications.
The biggest let down of Nokia is the speed.
If Nokia upgrade to 1Gz, it is a good start.
