The reason Nokia fails is not the absence of a 1Ghz processor, but the lack of android, its dev base and app support. The app support is why iOS and android are at the top of the mobileOS ladder. Why is windows the most used OS on computers? Seriously, mac OS is just as easy (if not easier) to use? Because of the software support on windows. Symbian does not have the same dev base as android. I have always loved Nokia, but their decision to abandon Google has driven them from being the world's best cellphone manufacturer to posting losses. If they dont wake up they will become bankrupt. Seriously, Windows Phone7 is already dying. No new WP7 devices have made an impact in the past year. The prices have almost dropped 40% in India for WP7 devices. They need apps, not a phone manufacturer.

This move, whilst initially appearing surprising, is actually a great way for the company to leverage one of its many assets: namely the time proven stability of its proprietary os, S40

1GHz on S40 device...?? Too much.
Even my 2 years old 369MHz S60 device runs fine with heavy multitasking...

[deleted post]Is not beign Android fanboy, I love Nokia, but Symbian has the days counted, Meego is not going to see the daylight any time soon, WP7 is a good alternative but they will make the phones more expensive.
Android is a good way for Nokia to have an "additional OS" on it, I don't wanna dissapear any other OS, but face it, Symbian can be pushed more further any more.
Let me put this on this way, If you give me the E7 or C6 design on Android OS I will buy it as an additional phone, even if this one don't have any expansion card or the screen is not that big. I like too much the metal design, BUT, Symbian don't make me this decision easy. So, I will stay waiting.

Microsoft makes $5 for every android device that HTC sells; this was an agreement for them using WP7 on their devices. So if Nokia all of a sudden gets rights and privileges that these other vendors do not, how do you think HTC, LG, and Samsung will deal with it? Stop producing WP7 devices; this will in turn destroy a large profit that Microsoft is raking in for absolutely nothing. Also Nokia did approach Google before it ever approached Microsoft. Google just did not want to agree with any terms and conditions that Nokia set forth and Nokia was left with no other choice but to approach Microsoft.

If Nokia's WP devices flop then they will need to make Android devices or sink. They placed all their eggs in one basket.

[deleted post]I think that's what will happen. Let's see in a few months when Nokia's WPs start rolling. The only thing that makes me doubt Elop's decision is the adoption rate of WP. It's too slow and it seems like people are not into it. I really can't see what Nokia can do to WP that the other OEMs cannot. Sorry but I can't seem to continue on supporting Nokia with a blind eye. Nokia would need to wow me with their WP device or I'm off to the Android camp.

Sincerely, i still promoting in Nokia forums for the Nokia A Series for Android, even if they don't heard me hehehe, I still thinking Symbian is for basic uses and is cool enough to stay on line for a while, WP7 is for coorporates, iOS ys for fun and multimedia.
But Android is for every user :D

If this is true, then Nokia has misplaced priorities. I understand their need to claim "the next billion" but this move will no doubt undercut sales of their Windows smartphones. Indeed, the line between smartphone and feature phone is blurring but a feature phone this powerful at a cheap price will appeal to most people. I guess Symbian is not dead after all. It's only a matter of time before we see Series 40 morph into something akin to S60V5 but under a different name.
Personally, I think 512Mb is too much for a feature phone running S40. 256Mb would be better strategy because there has to be a true user experience differentiator between feature phones and smartphones. 512Mb RAM would make the feature phones true competitors to smartphones.
It would have been better if they decided to increase the RAM of Symbian ^3 devices instead. Yes Symbian has badly written code but it has also suffered from insufficient RAM. Imagine how much better the user experience of the N8/E7 and other Symbian ^3 devices would be if it had more RAM.

This is a Nokia idea overdue. It should have been done in their marquee smartphones way back. If the 5800 runs on 1 GHZ, it will undoubtedly be a glitch free super cell phone many wanting to get that can even surpass many good competitions out there. Why S40 and not S60? That I cannot comprehend at all.

And yep I'm a Nokia fanboy even If I get Android devices, I will be more pleased if Nokia get android on it, but I still like a lot WP7.

I find it funny that just a few years ago, when Apple introduced their own take on multitasking, people including Nokia fanboys were making fun of it. Now that WP is doing a similar approach to Apple's, it became acceptable for Nokia fanboys all of a sudden.

Your reply was with a link to another analyst clearly saying he feels iOS and Android users WILL NOT change platforms. So wheres your data to back it up?

However Mango in did is not a 100% multitasking BUT the basic features are there. And for many people is enough.
