Every XZP owner is in love with its screen.
I believe the lower brightness is due to 4K and battery life.
Because HDR increases brightness.
Z3, Z4 and Z5 are brighter..
Seems like Sony can use the Super Top Emission not only on oled, but on lcd too.
Many ppl dont know that Triluminous is Quantum Dot.
XZP/XZ1/XZ1c have almost same value of sRGB of S8.
138% against 142.

Maybe Apple paid off Display Mate just like they pay off BGR and other news sources which you can find when you visit yahoo.com.
I'm not saying Display Mate is surely lying but knowing Apple they are capable of paying off companies. What Apple seems to be good for is filing foolish lawsuits and paying off people to lie for them.

DisplayMate contradict themselves. If you look at their review of note 8 and s8 displays, you will see that they are much brighter.

They make great sensors but their software doesn't use them to the fullest potential. Most phones use Sony's sensors so phones like the Galaxy S6 use their sensors but have way more optimatized software for their cameras and thus own Sony using their Sony's hardware.

"

The note 8 goes above 1000 lux on a mostly white screen.
The thing is testing the screens in the same way and the note 8 does go above 1200 nits while the iphone x barely goes past 800 nits.
If you look at the power consumption numbers Note 8's screen looks like it's more efficient that iphone x's. So Samsung limits brightness in certain conditions on purpose to save energy.
The statement in the article is wrong. iphone x got the same A+ grade the Note 8 got.
It excels in other areas but the Note 8 still has a bigger screen, higher resolution so it's sharper and color accuracy on the iphone x is only marginally better.
For example DCI-P3 on the iphone is 103% and on the Note it's 104%. sRGB on the iphone is 103% and on the Note 8 it's 106%.

It's funny. This article goes on and on about color accuracy and NITs and yet they never bothered to mention that Apple is buying their displays from Samsung.
I guess they just didn't think that was important.

Someone explain this.... It says in this article that
"The iPhone X display has the highest brightness for OLED smartphones, maxing out at 634 nits. The Galaxy Note8 in comparison goes up 423 nits with manual brightness and 560 nits in auto brightness. This results in a more readable display under bright sunlight."
Then in the Note 8 review on GSMarena it says the following
"we did manage to get to a brightness as high as 850 nits in Auto mode by shining a light in to the ambient light sensor, but that is still a bit lower than the 870 nits of the S8+"
"Still, we couldn't exactly confirm DisplayMate's recent claim of a record-shattering 1,200 nit reading on the Note8."
So how is the iPhone X screen brighter??

In an era where bezels gone the way of the dodo, Sony insists on having the largest bezels in the history of phablets and a design language straight from 2013. It *is* some people's cup of tea (the crowd Sony is targeting) but that is a small crowd of mostly deviant (compared to average tastes) type.
Nothing wrong with that, but also means that Sony phones are not very worthy for specialized testing. Very few are buying them. Since such specialized tests (in battery and speed by youtube channels and screen/photo quality by displaymate/dx0) are time consuming it makes sense that Sony phones are being ignored (nobody buys them due to Sony's choises).

it's probably MARGINALLY more accurate than the same Samsung oled panels in the S8/note 8.. but since it has a much lower resolution.. the term "best mobile display".. i would take with a huge lunch of salt. most accurate and sightly brighter at a much lower resolution..
point is.. I'd still say the 18.5x9 quad hd ones in the S8/note 8 beats it! but of course.. all 4 phones have amazing displays.. they are SAMSUNG after all!

Anonymous, 06 Nov 2017They do not test phones from LG, Sony nor SharpStrange, they are the reference for display quality but forgets to test the display manufacturers' displays.
It's the same way as someone calling himself/herself a tech nerd while actually just testing/using Samsung and/or Apple products, nothing else, no researching either
