Calls it the most innovative and high performance Smartphone display that they have ever tested.

OLED screens can not practically be used at high brightness, or the burn-in artifacts will start to ruin the screen. This is why I'll prefer LCD for at least another 5 years.

Note8 has 560 max nits I clearly remember displaymate said it can go high as 1000nits

WRONG! Note 8 screen goes up to 728 nits manually and 1240 nits with auto-brightness. source : displaymate itself. Check your facts.

Anonymous, 06 Nov 2017I dont understand why some ppl say LCD has way less brightn... moreLCD's get way brighter at the moment than OLED panels. My Phone has an IPS LCD (as most LCD's are right now) that goes from 1 nit to 600 nits.
OLED doesn't get dim either, because if the manufacturer were to enable diming, OLED becomes ugly at low brightness.
However, it is quite pretty at full brightness.

Anonymous, 06 Nov 2017The sRGB of Note 8 is 141%. S8 has 142%. XZ Premium has... moreLoL what a weak attempt to lie.

sRGB is at 141% if you set a different display mode than the Basic Mode.
If you set Basic Mode on the Note the sRGB is at 106%. That is a very small and indistinguishable deviation.
Note 8's display is very color accurate but also way more customizable.
At the end of the day sRGM is just a an old color standard not a reference for real life colors.

heynekko, 07 Nov 2017This is a very interesting result Displaymate iPhoneX ma... moreYou might want to read some key words instead of just looking at numbers: those numbers that iPhone X beats note 8 is based on full screen brightness, not just a small portion of the screen as stated for the 1240 nits. The notch is imperfect on the iPhone X, just like how the dual edges are bad for distorted images and light reflections on those edges.

Folks - allow me to be the consoling voice of reason here in this screen debate. No need to squabble.
Display Mate is just reporting that this screen is the best at what it does for what it is. Of course there's an element of favoritism / a$$ kissing to Apple and of course credit is also due to Samsung for producing the hardware.
The Note8's screen is bigger, higher resolution and therefore can't realistically be as bright due to the negative impact it would have on performance. It also has a digitizer for use with the stylus. So in theory THIS screen is also the 'best' screen for it's intended purpose.
The term 'best' is just a term subjective to the scope of what's being compared.

Could they can rid off pentile diamond pixel arrangement, could they can use RGB pixel arrangement, could they?

                            Damond pentile pixel layout disadvantages:
1 pixels are not same size; greens pixels are smallest, red are middle size, blue pixels are biggest
2 colors disequalations colors are not equal, because different pixels size
                            3 brightness are not equal
4 colors shifting when changening viewing, brightness dimming
5 screens have bluish tint, purplish tint, grey tint because not equal pixels size Green red blue
6 skin depic like redish or purplish when human skin are white or even light brown, its because different pixels size blue red green.

Diamont pentile pixel arrangement advantage nor RGB pixels arrangement:
                            1 better battery life

I think because desire have best battery life these issues newer will be fixed.
Samsung fixing their displays technology by generations I see better results Note 8 and S8+ If they implemwnt true tobe like technology full light sectrum ambient light sensor it fix more issues. But its still not affect video content, need work with technology hardware itself screen and better software scree calibration, better screen polarization technique. I see Apple working best with screen polarization technique and have best viewing angle.

I are curious about all using quantum dot technology LCD display. Some quantum dots are toxic, have radioactive vaporization so quantum dot LCD manifacturers should confirm about theirs quantum dots safety and toxifity, toxical wuantum dots can cause dnr and rnr mutation and change. Its tested with animals and show results.
Manufacturers are really not resposible for peoples and only interests in money and profits and not lifes. Are some examples like blowing batteries. But this screens quantum dot stuff is affecting passivelly and slowly. For it need some tech need education.

LCD Quantum Dot technology manufacturers which safety need confirm even not by manufacturers:
SONY triluminos technology Quantum Dot display
                            LG Qantum Dot display technology
                            Sharp Quantum Dot display technology

Some Quantum Dot pixels used chemicals have this danger toxifity
Thank you for your attention, learning and staying informative.

This is a very interesting result

Displaymate iPhoneX max brightness: 634 nits
Displaymate Note8 max brightness: 560 nits

Wait.. Let's check again DisplayMate's review on Note 8
                                      Here's and excerpt

"When Automatic Brightness is turned On, the Galaxy Note8 produces up to a very impressive 1,240 cd/m2 (nits) in High Ambient Light, where high Brightness is really needed – which is the brightest Smartphone display that we have ever measured, and 22% Brighter than the Galaxy S8. As a result of its very high Automatic Brightness and low Reflectance, the Galaxy Note8 has a Contrast Rating for High Ambient Light that ranges from 122 to 270, also the highest that we have ever measured for a Smartphone display. See the Brightness and Contrast, the High Ambient Light and the Screen Reflections sections for the measurements and details. The much higher Peak Brightness of over 1,200 nits is also used to provide High Dynamic Range HDR, which we discuss next..."

                                      http://www.displaymate.com/Galaxy_Note8_ShootOut_100.htm

                                      So the actual results are:

Displaymate iPhoneX max brightness: 634 nits
Displaymate Note8 max brightness: 1200 nits!!!!

                                      comparing with GSMARENA:

GSMArena Note8 max brightness: 850 nits!!
                                      GSMArena iPhoneX max brightness: ???

We'll just have to wait for GSMArena's review but I doubt it will be higher than Note 8..

Apple is known for their display calibration.. In fact that is why their mac line-up is still standing to this day.

But the thing is, Samsung Note 8's display is adjustable to the point of perfection just like iPhone X. Quote from Note 8 review:

"By putting brightness at exactly 53% (using a third-party app) and dialing in the channel sliders, as shown above, we were able to get the average deltaE down to just 2.5. This represents such a low deviation that we can consider the screen PERFECTLY color-accurate"

                                      www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note8-review-1659p3.php

Another point to ponder is perfect color accuracy does not lead to consumer satisfaction.. Most of the time people just enjoy punchy and contrasty colors.. So Samsung Note 8's display provides options.. If you want Punchy you can get it if you want Perfectly accurate you can get it.. But if you want a notch you'll have to download a notch app.. Apple iPhone X on the other hand is stuck with the perfectly accurate display(but bland and dull for day to day usage) and also stuck with the permanent notch..

                                      As usual.. SAMSUNG wins again..
