Alien Dalvik will let you run Android apps on the Nokia N9

23 June, 2011
In case you were worried about application support for the N9, you have one less reason to worry now. Along with applications created specifically for the phone, you will even be able to run Android...

If you want to use Android-apps then it is better to buy an Android-phone! Android can do everything MeeGo can do, my Android S2 now even have USB-on-the-go, plus normal SIM-card and FM-radio and Adobe Flash in the webbrowser...

Now you are clearly mistaken. This app (that you and some others call OS) can't even real multitask.

Infatc sources say they are already working on another meego device for next year. If they didn't wan't to further development on meego, why are they giving out free nokia N950s to developers?

One flaw. Android games are already starting to fragment as some games are only available to certain devices with specific chips. Like the tegra games and snapdragon games.

Excellent piece of software. Also, if one installs the Android market .apk onto the phone...well...there you have it :)

wow thats another victory for ................ ANDROID !!! Yes thats right!
what makes a smartphone "smart" are apps. Now after blackberry QNX, even Meego is dependent on android for apps. That is where android wins. Now theres one more reason for developers to develop apps for android and one less for developing apps for meego and qnx.
Also I wonder why Nokia fanboys who earlier dismissed android apps as "crappy, low quality, malware ridden" so happy now.

Lets take an objective look at what the smartphones have to offer before you bash Android. I believe your celebrations are premature.

                    Nokia's flagship, N9:
                    1. 1ghz cpu
                    2. No microsd slot = limited storage
                    3. 3.9" AMOLED screen
                    4. 135g weight
                    5. uses an emulator to run android apps = has to rely on another platform to survive

                    Android's flagship, SGS 2
                    1. 1.2ghz dual core
                    2. microsd slot
                    3. 4.3" SUPER AMOLED PLUS screen = 2 generations ahead
                    4. 116g
                    5. Runs its own android apps

My point is, if a platform has to rely on another platform's apps to survive, it shows that they lack confidence in their own platform. I have used emulators before, and the experience always pales in comparison to the original. Finally, an emulator would mean that most apps will not be optimized for its use, so you can expect buggy apps on the phone.

Lastly, the one reason I prefer Android over Nokia or Apple is choice. Don't like SGS 2? There's the LG optimus 2X, Motorola Atrix, HTC sensation and many more coming your way, each with its own pros and cons to suit your budget and preferences. I'm sorry but Nokia's effort is too little too late.

I understand that this blog is for fans of certain operating systems and geeks. But is it not possible for people to think as general consumers here.

Nokia is a business not a charity as much as i love the design of the phone and the UI this has cost Nokia millions of pounds year after year that is why we only see one handset at the moment. Second as a business Steven Elop is not the only one that is making decisions their are other people. if you spend and spend millions of pounds on a project but its not really coming together you generally dump it.

General people and i mean people who go into to phone shops dont care about sideloading and tweeking software they just want a phone that works, they dont really care if they can programme a phone to geting something out of it they just want to get emails send texts take snaps use face and call people. And get apps. They dont want to take a test to do or be a genius they couldnt care less that the N9 runs linux.

That is why Elop and co dumped MeeGo because we really dont need another operating system. It seems that everyone wants to skin this guy alive but he was brought in to make money and its a business not a fan club. MeeGo as it stands has a best a handful of apps. If people moan that WP7 with its 20,000 is not enough what do you think they will say about MeeGo at this moment in time Nokia have to start making some money.

I Like the N9 but i see it as a start of a new chapter in Phone design for Nokia and in a way it was almost if they made it to see what the general reaction would be.

It is easy for people to slag of Elop but he was brought in to save and make money simple. And their is no other phone company in the world who dosent think about the bottom line.

As a person that has written Nokia off for about 8 years they now have my interest their N9 is a beautiful looking handset and yes i have to say shame about the software.

nokia has clearly made it a point they wont upgrade the software of meego...moreover,they said only 92,000 of the n9 devices will be made...so its likely that there's gonna be no official support for repairs as well like SE and Samsung doesnt repair Symbian handsets these days.....

Nokia has the biggest fan-base. Trust me, even if n9 is half as good as sgs2, then too it will be two-times as successful. Reason, fans dislike symbian, not nokia. A long awaited new OS, and most of the so called ex-nokia fans will jump back to the bandwagon.

Elop must be feeling the heat why he abandoned MeeGo so the PR department leaked this video to cool down the N9. If you pay attention to the video, you'll notice that it was taken using 2 cameras. One was closer to the audience on the right and the other one situated at the back. It is also edited. That means that this is an intentional leak. For what purpose? It's anybody's guess but my money is on taking the hype away from the N9.

I say Elop is hellbent on killing MeeGo. LOL XD
