It was always the case that hardware comes first. You cannot program a use that you cannot test in the real hardware, you need the hardware.
It was never the case that one who's waiting for the software to catch up was rewarded , it (the software) never does (catch up to hardware).
Point is that at this instance best mobile gaming is on iOS (honestly, nothing Samsung can do to turn the tide at this point) and soon more and more uses would be Apple-only.
It's not an accident that all the high end profits have been garnered by Apple at this point. Samsung was a company that used to go toe to toe in high end / flagship sales against Apple (S4 / Note 3 times) ... then she gave up, took a nap and Apple is posting all-time profits ... genius.
All I'm doing is noticing that Samsung learnt nothing. At this point the bulk of her sales are made by J series. Good luck holding on to moving targets only utilizing the low end of the market... It's sad really, as a Note 4 owner, it's sad to see where this company is going.

I do not think that if Samsung decides to have a processing power 'war' (due to any reason), Apple can win against them.
As of now, Samsung's devices already have denser displays, DeX, iris scanners (plus fingerprint) running well on existing power. *IF* AR becomes an important thing (which I doubt), Samsung can get an Exynos out in no time to power it. Also look at Google, which has transitioned to a software-centric camera approach with dedicated processing coming soon.
Point being that use for horsepower needs to be figured our first. And the direction apple seems to be taking (AR) seems to be of little value. They are bumping processing power do not...i don't know what

If they were to increase the size little by little alongside apple *(as Apple was doing it) I'm sure they'd find ways to challenge the issues head on as they'd appear.
Instead they castrated themselves by staying with small cores (there's no big.little on android at this point, it's little.little). There's a ton of features that are meant to appear in the imminent future that would simply only run on iphones well. That *should* worry android makers but also Google herself. Android prided itself for being able to do more and now due to hardware deficiencies it would be able to do less for the first time in 10 years...
Even now it's not too late, they can start by increasing the core size little by little. Like I said the issues that arise can be dealt if the change is gradual from gen to gen. It's obvious that big processing power is the future, especially as phones seem to do greater and greater workloads eventually surpassing the average workloads of laptops/desktops ("processing needs per days")...
Becoming the centerpiece of personal computing they cannot lose out the processing race...

Just make the... moreI mean a way that there won't be any patent infringement. sure. making the cores wider will increase the wafer, but also would take space. thus shrinking the battery and damaging the precious battery life. Have you thought about it? Plus. Apple's cores work in a method called RtS. (Race to Sleep) which means the cores will rise from min power to do the task as fast as possible to avoid overconsumption of the battery. ANDROID cores. DO NOT work in this way.
(I've developed to android some simple scripts. and used a debugger. and did the same with the same preformance monitor in the debugger to iOS. the difference is east and west different!)

Anonymous, 16 Nov 2017I appreciate your restrained and focused style of argument ... moreNot bragging right, processing power is about achieving new and exciting things like AR, pattern recognition (passive biometrics), insta-translation.
You could say the same thing about Note 3 (for example), what the heck does it need so much horsepower? But guess what I'm using it right now (in the form of Note 10.1 2014, which is the same hardware). If Samsung was not to make that jump on hardware performance then, no way would my tablet survive so long. In fact right now I'm running LineAge OS on it and it's faster than Nexus 6 day-to-day (seriously).
That's how long and far great hardware goes , *never* skim on it. Samsung should had known, never let Apple overtake her, hell, that was her claim to fame, her better hardware. Should return to the game or risk becoming obsolete in the following years...

Coming to things like the fastest processor, a Samsung device is able to run DeX and run along with (and even beat) Apple's iPhone X in speed tests. So why run after processing power for bragging right alone? An iPhone benchmarked higher, but what does it offer the user for all that processing power? On the other hand, Android devices do offer better battery life (I understand part of it is just the bigger form factor), which is an end-user benefit

Oh....this is what i wait for, although I will not know whether to buy it or not, but this is really good news because I have 4,5 inches phone, if it is true the screen below 5 inches is using bezel-less it is a good market strategy, but I think it needs more specs, such as a battery that may be over 2. 000 mAh or at least 2. 600 mAh and have Ram 1 gb or even 2gb Ram, but have same price with Samsung J2 2017 now, it's guaranteed it will sell in the marketplace.

18:9 defeats the purpose of making a compact phone, 16:9 content is gonna make people feel the phone is larger than it should. People going after small phones want to use them with one hand, have short thumbs or just want a functional phone that takes as little space in their pocket as possible.

Although, with 18.5:9 ratio, there is no need go below 5 inches screen size, 5.0-5.2 inches would be perfect. The important things are to keep width below 65 mm and to NOT compromise on performance.

Up until Exynos 8890 e... moreThen again. creating a core that scores 2650 points. now. how I got to that score? a first gen Mongoose scored about 1880 in geekbench 4.1, sinec you mentioned each year was an incremental of 40%, 1880x1.4 is that score. but then again. having SUCH a core WHILE cramming 4 powerful and the A53 ones WITHOUT damaging the battery life is hard. according to the formula you made. the third gen Mongoose should get whopping 3700 points! this is literally impossible without changing the size of the cpu. and obviously without hurting the precious battery life.
