Counterclockwise: the rise (and impending doom) of the 3.5mm audio jack

From proprietary COM ports through a short flirtation with 2.5mm to USB-C and beyond.

Let's look at the year they removed the 3.5 mm port though. The phone maintained the exact same external dimensions but gained IP67 waterproofing and +245 mAh battery power.

Yes, not all, but just like not all external DACs are good).

It's business, if the usb c worns out easily, good business for them because you will be forced to buy a new one, be it a new phone or replace the usb c port. Either way, a good business for business men but not for users like us.

The difference is that you don't have to suffer from bad built-in DAC/amps with USB-C, as you yourself pick the level of quality on your headphones. The DAC/amp combo can also be hand-picked and tuned by the audio manufacturer to ensure better output.

Furthermore you also get more advanced and powered features with USB-C, such as active noise cancellation and integrated equalizers, to name some.

If you are going to use USB-C Port for audio (either with dongels or USB-C headphones) :

1- The USB-C port will wear out MUCH faster, over time
2- chances that port getting physical harm will be increased
3- you cannot listen to music while charging

If you are going to use Bluetooth headphones :

1- Audio quality of Bluetooth is WAY lower than wired type, this is because how Bluetooth send music, and this haven't see any changes from around 2004 till now.
2- as more people start using Bluetooth headsets, the chances of "signal interference" wil be increased, results will be either even lower audio quality or noise or actual "crosstalk" will happen.
3- wireless headphones are more expensive (also they have lower Audio quality/price ratio compared to wired headphones, as additional internal parts will cost mony, so the sound driver will be relatively cheaper )
4- you need to consider charging a additional electronic item, and you will be bounded by an equipment that have lower battery life compared to your phone for listening to music
5- higher electronic consumption, as Bluetooth will take a little more juice out of your phone battery, compared to wired headphones (in most cases )

            Forced Obsolescence, anyone?

Consumers want nicer and sleeker waterproofed devices, and fewer than ever use 3.5 mm headphones. The choice is simple.

Apple: We decided that the 3.5 mm jack needed to go.
                iFans: Why?
                Apple: Because we say so.
iFans: Yeah, Bluetooth headphones are the future, no more 3.5 mm jack.
I am not saying that Bluetooth is bad, we use it every day in our lives. I use Bluetooth headphones (on my laptop/PC) as much I use wired ones (on my smartphones). But the way Apple is just making this changes and the way people are following this trend like sheep, without thinking, is really really bad for human intelligence.
Yeah, maybe Bluetooth 5.0 comes with some improvements. But until the quality for Bluetooth headphones will catch up to the quality of wired ones (and I am not talking about cheap 30$ headphones), I will be still using wired ones also.
P.S. And don't tell me the Bluetooth headphones sound better, because they are not..I have 2 pairs of 150$ each, one wired the other not, so I know what I am saying.

                      Lies, damned lies and statistics.
To inflate the percentage of USB-C devices, all phones with a 3.5mm jack _and_ a USB-C port were also counted as USB-C devices.

It has been proven that audio through USB C isn't of better quality than 3.5, and when something is supposed to replace an older tech it has to be better than it, that's the only thing which makes the older tech obsolete, doesn't happen in this case, so 3.5 mm is still the king, unless and until USB C or wireless headphones match and better the quality of 3.5. No point in trying to complicate a really simple matter.

How about using 2 usb type c portsthat way you can connect to headset andaybe even charge using two chargers

                            No hole no $$ simple

I already said it in the past and i'll say it again : Don't be surprised , if either LG (or BBK Electronics) or Sony will be the last OEMs in smartphone industry to include 3.5mm jack on their phone , especially their flagships .

LG has a V Series that always relied on 3.5mm for audio experience with their 32 bit audio or 192kHz audio , BBK Electronics until the released of 5T / V7+ / R11s hasn't removed the feature yet , and Sony already confirmed that they won't following Apple strategies (the 3.5mm jack removal) , due Sony has been on multimedia (ex. Walkman) for years and fans loved it very much, so they can't and won't do it for the Xperia lineup .

(Samsung 3.5mm jack removal from S9 (and Note9) rumors already started to spread everywhere , although can't be confirmed at least till both released Q1 2018 / Q3 2018).

So, when Audi quality in Android's phone is weak yet! It doesn't matter: " With or without hole of 3.5mm"
Get some quality! Htc, LG and Sony were in this path: rewriting-decoding-encoding better quality perhaps xD
