It does not mean a drop in interest by users,we can it buy what is offered to us.
If headphone use is not very important t9 you, lack of 3.5 mm is no loss,if you use good quality cans a lot, it's vital.
Just another example of A)how poxy designers have far too much say in what we are offered.
B)how stupid a lot of makers are, blindly copying poxy Apple "innovation",Apple can get away with a propriety Jack because their users are used to having to pay high, extra costs just for simple connectors, other makers won't get away with it,there will be a backlash against the lack of 3.5 mm,an awful lot of folk, just like myself, who,no matter what else we may like about a particular device will not buy it if it has no 3.5mm.
Just like these stupid very narrow tall phones will not become the norm, too many of think it's a total con, brought about by the same poxy designers who bring us skinny, bendy, bezeless things with tiny batteries, and yet if you look at something like the ZTE axon 7,it's still selling very well even though its almost 2 years old but still has a fast cpu, huge bezels, isn't so thin that it bends and has the wonderful extra features of good dac's, good stereo front speakers and a big enough battery to go all day..
I remember having to carry converter dongles for use with xda/HTC tytn2,I swore then, never again..
We don't all want/need the same from our devices, many would like to be able to use headphones while having the device connected to something else, like a power pack or laptop and don't want to be forced to use wireless connections of any kind because of power/quality reasons, impossible without a 3.5 mm,unless an even ore expensive double head dongle converter is used,if you can find one..
Many of these folk shouting the death of 3.5 mm will end up eating their words quite soon,it may not be universal on every device, but for many good reasons it will not die out..
Watch and see..Just as makers will have to start listening to user complaints soon about other "novelty" ideas being forced on us,this wil be a major loss of sales for some makers and a way for others to gain buyers..

Every time Apple comes across a problem, they simply decides to remove the source, rather than trying to find a solution. Last year they were having problem making their phone water-resistant so they decided that 3.5mm had to go. Then they fed us nonsense about wireless being the future and people gobbled it up.

This year, they were having problems with In-display FPS (even if they deny it), so they decided to remove it and then feed us nonsense about faceID being the future. It's a cycle. And People are falling for it.

More importantly, android OEMs are falling for it.

Remove Jack = to $$$$$ profit

Realization is what's needed to stop the "courageous" decision, so stopping from buying iPhones with no headphone jack will help send message to Apple that we still have brains.

You'll see in the near future, after jackless iPhones stop selling quite as much as jacked iPhones, Apple would bring it back.

Vic4BBM, 19 Nov 2017Change is Constant / Permanent. As per Vedic philosophy ... moreAlso big brands which thinks they will live forever.
Poor Steve he left his child to clumsy people and his ship called apple running towards an iceberg.
Samsung dont worry. Your massproduction means poor quality like it ever was.
Soon noone buy you because you only care of quantity but quality is dicutable.
And yes Sony. Once a great brand now nobody is interested because you cant sell cheap any chinese brands took a sales place. For a same price they offer 3 times more than you could afford. You are just a survivor holding last strove of a grass.

Let's say that BT may be the future. They don't even have any fancy or high grade audio peripherals like Sony's LDAC to actually make use of BT headphones. Only Sony to me has the right to remove the headphone jack because of their propietary wireless audio features, but even themselves aren't stupid enough to do that.

The 3.5 mm headphone jack will come back again because users want to be able to listen to music... even when the phone is charging, and users to not want small adaptors that too easily get lost, and users do not want too worry about batterylife and charge the battery in bluetooth headphones!
Apple never listens to the actual users, Apple always think Apple knows better than the users themself what the users want, while Samsung... copy Apple!

Rayne, 19 Nov 2017No 3.5mm no buy. Man then move to a cave and live like humans long time past ago :-)
Sorry but i had to write it this way.

The 3.5mm headphone jack may be slowly disappearing from high end phones, but it has a long life left in middle-range and low end ones. Some high end phones will probably keep it as well for a few years more, since there are still a lot of people who think that it's a deal breaker. The 50 most popular phones listing is quite misleading as well, because it includes mostly high end phones and not the ones most people are actually buying and using.

That's why we never have decent devices even if we're willing to spend more (Ironically the more expensive devices are even more crippled in terms of functionality/practicality).
