The Razer phone gained larger battery and improved cooling for it.

A headphone jack isn't needed as the quality of music that most people listen doesn't warrant decent playback gear.

This guy (Razer CEO) is talking complete Bull****!
how on earth removing the headphone jack will get enough space for 500 mAh battery !? It is totaly impossible or they have invented a extreme density batteries. This excuse is even worse than Apple's one :D

Luxor, 27 Nov 2017This is what the original post by that guy: "I see a lot... moreFor me that sounds more like... HEY, Don't you want to carry the fuc**** adapter? We give you the solution! Buy our cheap $79 HammerHead USB-C or free? $99 "paying" our Paid to Play, LOL. So a Win $$$ Win $$$ options for them not for you. The rest are the typical excuses to justify it instead a small change in the design and add the jack.

I don't care about the jack, but I found out Min-Liang Tan is handsome and hot.

Hah, yeah because a gaming phone that you have to use an adapter to be able to listen to the audio that takes up the only port that is there to be able to charge your phone, is not what i call justification for a 'gaming phone' that will be in need of alot of power, aka in need of using the charger alot when you do gaming on the phone.

              1. space taken by minijack could not be replaced by battery, because its not only in different place(for most of time it can be implemented in speaker reverb box or mainboard), but its take about 7x14mm space.

              2. No matter what amazing DAC you have on phone, it still need to be converted to analog signal that EVERY headphones use. So why playing with annoying dongles that break all the time because they are short and you bend them all the time. If you could just put that inside phone, because guess what? it will take 5x5mm space inside.

              3. MiniJack is not "old and useless". Its like saying that wall plug socket is old and too big...
Minijack is a standard that is used not only in phones, so removing it break compatibility with other devices or make user experience worst by forcing him to use dongles like it would be year 2004

              4. Only reason why OEMs remove it, is because it create new market for cables. Its just creating another way to milk users. It have nothing to do with space or quality, because 5inch phone have space for it, and quality greatly depend on heaphones that still convert signal to analog one so all their digital gibberish end in trash before it reach your ears.

500 mAh more battery for the space of a tiny HP jack? BULLSHIT!
Please add "stupid, misinformed CEO" on the list of "What phone enthusiasts don't want from a Razer phone"

The only reason for the removal of headphone jack is greediness. There are so many cheap headphones that use headphone jack and there are so many people out there that own 1 or more headphones with that jack currently, so removing them would make people buy another 1 that uses usb c/lightning or they would be forced to use an adapter(which is pain in the sss). Why do you think some of them don't offer free headphones out of the box and mostly on phones that don't have the jack?

Better introduce bluetooth camera and remove camera from the phone. so they can increase battery more and thermal management....

also another think they can do is seperate oldest tech called battery from phone. So everyone can use comapny specific external battery with dongal connection.. battery space can be used for more cpu and grapics..

Another extreme thing they can do is seperate display from phone and use comapany specific bluetooth/wifi displays when needed....

I think there is a need of sense, simplicity and logic in tech industries...

The space excuse is pure BS as the alternative is MUCH worse, that we need to carry one or two adapters along the device... Just be honest and say that is about ripping off the consumer for a few cents more...

The need for a split cable to use the device for watching video or listen to music while charging is a deal raker - no matter the brand.

Rather than making the device so thin that there are no room for a 3.5mm jack, make it thicker and use the extra space for a larger and removable battery!!

I'm sick of the planned obsolescence of non removable batteries.

I still cant believe people defend the removal of the headphone jack! Such a massively anti consumer move yet people let manufactures get away with it with PR drivel and excuses. Having fewer options to enjoy your media is apparently a good thing.

Phones have been manufactured with the headphone jack and still been waterproof and thin. There are NO excuses. You want to hide behind its more expensive when phone prices are rising more and more and features are being taken away?

Razers phone is a brick and not waterproof, no excuse. Simply cutting corners and lazy design.

Virtually EVERYONE is listening to Cardi B or Kendrick Lemar on Standard Quality Spotify nowadays. There is ZERO difference in that regard when using Bluetooth earphones over a 3.5MM-connected earphone just because the source quality is not great to begin with!!!

Unless everyone starts downloading albums from specialty FLAC sites with specialty FLAC-compatible equipment and phones with adequate DACs, I can guarantee you there will be ZERO difference with using a BT earphone and a 3.5mm earphone.

This is what the original post by that guy:

"I see a lot of feedback on the removal of the headphone jack on the Razer Phone - and I wanted to share some of the thought process when we made the decision.
By removing the headphone jack - we were able to increase the battery size significantly (I estimate we added 500maH more), improve thermals for performance and a whole lot more.
The trade off was not having the jack - but what sealed it for me was that we were able to get audiophile quality sound with the dedicated 24-Bit THX Certified DAC adapter - and I made sure we included that with every phone. Which basically means we give even better quality headphone audio for those who want to hold on to their analog headphones.
On top of that, we've released the HammerHead USB C (retails at $79.99) and the HammerHead BT with all day battery life (US$99.99 - or free with Paid to Play!) which makes it a complete solution.
So in short, removing the headphone jack gave better performance, more battery - and on top of that, better headphone audio performance with existing headphones and the option to go completely wireless or jacked in via USB.
I can't speak for other phone companies who made the decision to remove the headphone jack - but I think you guys can see why we did so"

Now, what Im not satisfied with is he said the dedicated 24-Bit THX Certified DAC adapter give better quality headphone audio for analog headphone. So why get rid of the fking earjack?! Plugging to usb c made it a digital audio, not analog.

Insom13, 27 Nov 2017Which one is that? I'm considering various but my actual preference is the Mate 10. Front fingerprint, same battery, newer SoC and jack. Still waiting what variants Honor will bring this and next month. In January S9/S9+ will arrive with SD 845 less power comsumtion, bigger battery in the S9+, bigger screen. And a more natural position for the fingerprint than before.

I'm trying to be a bit patient because there are a lot of new phones incoming in the next two months. The CES 2018 9-12 January, the Mobile World Congress 2018 26 Feb - 1 March. Sure that I'll get something better with a bit of patience without wait a lot.

TIL, According to gsmarena smartphone companies are the ones who decide when an Audio technology is obsolete.

I thought that privelege would belong to companies which real amen main market is the audio...

If they wanted 3.5mm jack they could have increased phone size a bit more thats all they needed to do

People need jack - not a BS explanations. 3.5 jack is not a part of past until there are affordable wireless headphones with batteries that will last weeks, not hours.... Not to mention comparable sound quality...

The jack will be more useful and of higher fidelity that the USB port. Just bowing down to manufacturers' whims because you think it's trendy and "the future" is insanity.

Folks will vote with their wallet. That's the only language OEMs and GSMArena understands.

He removed it so he can peddle his usb-c headphone. That phone has so much bezels... I find it very hard to believe they can't fit a headphone jack there.
