it is very sad they have to pull out the japanese market. i don't think the o/s is the main issue. look at se,they,re losing ground too. espcially in the u.s.a market. i believe marketing is. if they don,t shape up. they will keep on losing ground. no matter what kind of o/s they will use.

Steve Dojobs, 03 Jul 2011Why Nokia does not using Android??? I think they just look ... moreWhy Nokia don't run Android -

"He (Stephen Elop) tried to negotiate a deal with Google to run Android, but Google refused to give the world's biggest phonemaker any advantages over its smaller partners, meaning Nokia's corps of 11,600 engineers would have next to no ability to add their own innovations to Google's software."

AnonD-1124, 03 Jul 2011What do you mean samsung can make s^1 look awesome? I'f you... moreAccualy Omnia HD was the best symbian phone reased in its time, I remmeber it was released just 3 months before N95, Samsng made a great efford in omnia HD it came with:
              1- 680 Mhz prosseccor + 256 ram

              while

N97 came with an old 427 Mhz + 128 ram

2- Omnia hd has an 8 migapexile camera

              while
              n97 has a 5 megapexile camera
3- omnia hd came with agreat capacitve AMOLED screen
              While
N95 came with a creepy resistve screen

Omnia HD was mile ahead and was pretty faster and much more stable than n97 it took nokia 2years to release n8 which has better hardware
I know that symbian isn't good enough but nokia also failed to make full use of it by through ignoring the hardware part which was the key factor for samsung sucess
Look around LG, HTC, MOTORILA all does companies uses andriod but samsung is the best since it provides the best hardware and does the best customization for andriod......nokia could at leasted boosted the processor +ram and added a shell to symbian
I guss nokia failed to.read the market and chosse not to look around ignoring theall even there fans 2 sad nokia

Well for starters Japanese are very patriotic so their first preference is always a Japanese brand and besides Nokia must have realized they are not making significant revenue as per the amount of invested capital so hence the pullout.

From an economic point of veiw, i dont think nokia had any option..wealthy and young japanese like the good stuff, brand names ect,,huge colourful screens from samsung, htc, apple, plus sharp and panasonic,,nokia dont stand a chance,, i think to much hype is being written here about this......so much bad press about symbian..mud sticks....now its probably to late for nokia now............unless

Distance between two hands in the Nokia' logo is growing wider. :) Even after going for other OS(es), they should have kept symbian and meego with them.
Why would some aware fellow buy a symbian phone after knowing there would be limited apps and support for a dying OS.
And, developing and abandoning meego is like spending time and money to learn for masters degree in engineering, when you have plans to run a grocer's shop. :)

The problem with nokia and symbian is neither but the company policies. They could have made a radical change in the os like they did with the switch from s60 v2 to v3 but they choose to ensure compatibility.

The issue is compatibilty and thats whats slowing symbian develipment at nokia. They are trying to maintain compatibility with older apps. The japanesse phones run custom symbian variants.

Anonymous, 03 Jul 2011but japanese manufacture can make dual bot Symbian^2 & ... moreThats my point. The japanesse market is different from the global market. You don't expect a global company like nokia to make mass market phones whose selling point is ability to dual boot. The n900 can quad-boot(lol) meego, maemo, android and windows xp. I don't think it sold up to 4 million.

Why Nokia does not using Android??? I think they just look and see, however they look and see for to long. Example they look at SE. SE have switching from Symbian to Android but until now their sale also still low as the same as Nokia. They still cannot compete with other Android phone from Samsung & HTC. If Nokia is using Android I still don't think they will still leading the market, like how they see what happened to SE.

Nokia can't compete in Japan. The japaneese prefer locally made phones such as Sharp SH-12C.
