The Nokia 9's curved all-glass front looks like it warrants a case

28 November 2017
Nokia's next flagship will have wireless charging and water resistance, but no 3.5mm jack.

[deleted post]Pl2rts@ so, you thought that just if you do not write your name, nobody knows it is you?:))))). You are funny. I actually worked with cheap phones, that is why i make the comparison. By now, the only cheap phones that actually are worthy to be named, when we talk about hardware quality, are the tree Nokia's that came out. They are the only ones that have flagship quality material build. That's about it. And yes, in this i am including old Nokia's and everything that was build till date. This phones are build to last, and with a flagship precision;). Still i would buy them for testing some strange software rather then for daily usage).

[deleted post]I actually was very relaxed. I will do the same in any other aspect, when somebody talks crapp. No matter if is about musicians, History, Religion and so on. So, it has nothing to do with Nokia, it has everything to do with people "expressing" their clueless opinion about something they have no idea what it is.

          Ugly camera hump.
Fingerprint reader on the back - instead of side as Sony.
Looks like any other Android device - nothing special. Blind design.

Anonymous, 29 Nov 2017Look dear.. I am an engineer and I can afford any flagship ... moreSomeone with a right to be speaking in that patronizing tone would also understand that accidents are called that for a reason.

Yes, some people just brutalize their phones. However, I take immaculate care of mine, or at least, I'd like to think I do. It doesn't even get the plastic wrap off without a case and a protector present.

Just the other day, I accidentally (through a totally normal motion of pulling a phone from a pocket) caught it on the lip of the pocket, and lost my grip as it flung out onto the concrete.

I could be like you, and pretend (ignorantly) that mistakes and accidents don't happen - or.... I could buy some basic protection for maybe 3 dollars, and guess what? Because of that I still have a pristine $300 phone.

I really wish phones didn't do this curved glass business. It makes finding a nice screen protector for them almost impossible, and you needn't look far to see why it's patent idiocy not to use one.

Just the other day, I was taking my phone out of my pocket. Accidentally caught it on the lip, and it flung out on to the concrete. Woops.

BUT! I had a tempered glass protector ($2) which saved my phone screen and a cheap case - you couldn't tell it from new thanks to that. I doubt I would have the same result without it.

The Nokia 9 has been on my radar for some time.... but curved glass could be a dealbreaker. It's not that I wouldn't like it, but these phones are an investment and I simply cannot afford to have it break due to an unfortunate accident and then look like (if it survives) crap for the next 3 or 4 years I'd need to keep it for a fair ROI.

Another one bites the dust. I thought illuminati exist in government. The secret league exists for smartphones as well... What is with these retards taking away the 3.5mm jack? What are these idiots trying to prove? Another trend now is the 3300 mah battery becoming a standard and also the non expandable memory. Shooting a 4k video will fill up the space as well as exhaust the battery in no time. Same goes if you are using the GPS. This is beyond ridiculous.

I hope this no headphone thing turns out false. Nokia cannot afford to do an Apple at such a crucial juncture in their rise.

Really looking forward to 9. Likely announced first quarter 2018. Hopefully not too big.

I felt that this design of Nokia 9 will make me disappointed for the first time. I mean look, no headphone jack, bezelless display, overpriced and more???? That negative comment from someone else made me sobbing in the middle of the night. I shall go for Nokia 8 or Nokia 5 instead. That keeps me happy and well from the trends.

And I don't use a case on it.. Why? Because I took care of my phone like an adult.. And if I happen to drop/break it I can just go and order a new one.. Because I can AFFORD it.. That is the reason.. You buy something using your pocket money after saving for the whole year on a flagship that you are afraid to break and put on a case.. That just means you CAN'T AFFORD it even though you own it.. Smart people spend on something they can afford.. Naive people literally spend their life savings on something very expensive just to feel good and enter the cool group even if they have to starve because they can't afford it.. That is the point

Kane, 28 Nov 2017Clearly you lack reading comprehension and you must ignore ... moreYou stated - quite clearly - that Apple was important to Foxconn while Nokia were confined to a corner. That's outright false, and ridiculously ignorant to state, given how HMD is one of Foxconn's larger customers.

You also seem to have this notion that the phone developed by HMD is a "clone", which is another ignorant statement, given how HMD design and develop their own devices. Nothing about them are "clones".

And lastly, my brand? You think Nokia is "my brand"? I'm interested in technology, regardless of if it's Sony, LG, Nokia or Apple. But when mental delinquents start spouting falsehoods and bashing random brands here, it gets tiresome to read.

HMD happen to provide excellent build quality, quality components and a very long-standing software support. Those are appealing concepts when buying a device. In addition to that, they also pay Finnish wages and pensions to their staff. Those are two reasons they can't undercut cheap Chinese no-name brands. They simply offer a lot more, to both the consumers and their staff.

Carol, 28 Nov 2017Two, "very smart" people. So let me guess: You are clumsy a... moreWhen your clumsy then how come your 800+ euro flagship is more durable then some 100-200 euro phone ? With the argument of dropping and breaking a low budget phones 2-3 times a year you spend over flagship price in two years. Well with in two years if your clumsy you drop and break 2-3 of these flagship phones to but then your already 2400+ euro in one-two years that is 6-12 times you can drop and break the budget phone.

I have 90 euro phone 2 months old and it beats my older Nokia Lumia 830 in every way. Better camera, 3 times more ram 2 times more rom 8 core cpu some mediatek but who cares if i dont play games. Battery is 3000mAh and it last me a 5 days without charging.

I am not clumsy and that phone i have look more quality product then any of 14 Nokia phones i have ever owned. It has droid 7 on it and have got already bug fix. It's stock android with freemeOS theme/skin on it. I dont even care about updates. Do it get to 7.1.2 or even 8 i just dont care. It wont give me anything that i need. Apps dont need the newest droid to run and they dont stop working when new droid os comes out.

Lol. So many trolls. I wonder, if Foxccon do all the things in the new Nokia, why would HMD the one that announce it? With HMD | Nokia brand side-by-side. Why would Nokia CEO botherly going to Nokia Event? And why would Nokia risk their good name if HMD couldnt give a top-notch quality as they wish?

But i lil agree if new nokia isnt like a nokia we used to know. Especially we need Marco Ahtissari to design all the Nokia phone, and Damian Dinning to bring back the good Nokia Camera :(

Btw, that Nokia 9 looks FAKE AF. Just look at the screen, the clock is big af and doesnt look proposional. Such a Nokia 8 wallpaper streches to fit with the 9 screen.

I believe Nokia will announce the 9 in CES 2018 as a starting point for 2nd gen line up. Just like when they announce Lumia 920 in Nokia World, and everything started looks good.

It sure looks like this. I have never seen adult needs to call someone a kid. It's mostly these people who just turned 18 or 21 and then have the need to call others kids as they just turned adult.

Nokia phones are over priced. I have had 80% of my 20 phones Nokia's so i am not just some wannabe fanboy. Comparing Nokia 2 that have 8GB rom and 1GB ram with SD212 ? and cost over 100 euro. There is some unknown name Doopro P1 Pro that have SD210 with 2GB ram and 16GB rom and runs Android 7.1.2 and that device cost only 70 euro. So how can you say that Nokia is not over priced ? Has less ram and rom but have 30-40 euro bigger price tag.

Nokia new phones are made by Asian factories that dont belong to Nokia or HMD. What Nokia does is give it's brand name to HMD that design the phone and choose components. And either HMD or Nokia does only camera app and thats about it. Clean stock android is nothing special and especially when they dont need to do much for updating to newer version of Android by there selves.

People who buy Nokia 2 hardware like phones dont care about gaming cause they dont play on mobile.

So let me guess: You are clumsy and brake 2 to 3 (i am sure some do even more drops a year) phones a year. So everytime, you buy yourself another in range of 200 dollars. Cheap, ya say... Well in a year you already have payed the mobey that could have been used on a better one and a good case (that would probably be used without being brocken for more then 2 years) . In two years you actually pay for a flagship, a case and a dumbphone plus a sd card. After one year of buying the flagship you can sell it and recover some good amount of money. After 1 year of buying cheap phones and using no case, you brake them, recover no money and are left with crappy technology and a very bad performance on a daily basis. Way to go, smartypants! No wander this world is at it is...
