It seems:
A3 -> A8 mini
A5 -> A8
A7 -> A8+

It is likely because the only three that always got recognized. I think Samsung ever made the A8 and A9 but not that popular.
That wont be suprising if the year wont make its appearance in next A series.
I believe Samsung is trying to make everything aligned.

    With the coming of these bezeless phone in 2017, all phones manufacturers are reluctant to make a small footprints phone. Imagine a 5 inch phone build bezeless, how compact that phone would be.... But I guess that would be pointless, since bezeless phone meant you can have a big screen in a compact body...

      Why make it 18:9 if you're gonna have huge bezels still

        Anonymous, 02 Dec 2017They will kill A3 due low sales compared to A5 and A7. A9... moreeven it was low, they have to fill the gaps between flagship and mid-end segment, also they have to compete with apple which is (rumored) about to launch their 2nd gen of SE, 4-inch iphone. I don't think Samsung would drop their 4s-inch division, but it might either relaunched as S9 mini or A8 mini.

          Anonymous, 02 Dec 2017They will kill A3 due low sales compared to A5 and A7. A9... moreThe poor sales of A3 were not due to its small screen size but because of its inferior specs. We have been forced to use larger phones because of such misinterpretation of consumer buying habits. I had to upgrade from my 4.5" A3 to a 5.5" J7 because there were not enough compact size phones that meet my requirements in the market. I am finding it very difficult to handle the phone with one hand and it feels like it is going to drop out of my hand any time. Can't wait to go back to sub-5" phones.

            Anonymous, 02 Dec 2017A3 2018 is nowhere to be seen. Is this the end of compact p... moreSeems like it. A3 2017 is basically similar to Galaxy Alpha. They cant improved the specs of this A3 any further in 2018. If they do so, it will be stepping into the flagship grade zone. It kinda overkill if they upgrade the 4.7" display with 1080p. Upgrading chipset is going to bring it into 'compact flagship' category too. A series is intended to stay as semi-flagship only.

              Anonymous, 02 Dec 2017A3 2018 is nowhere to be seen. Is this the end of compact p... morePerhaps so, I read on another website that there won't be a A3 at all, instead they might want to focus on an S9 mini next year. The A series won't be a series anymore, as the website suggested. Just an A5. But with these leaks and rumors, it seems that it might be a series again with the A5, A8 and/or A8+. We'll see. I hope LG brings more phones like the midrange Q6 coming year.

                  First. Look at that that huge chin, couldn't they have slimmed that down.
                  Second. Bixby button, nowhere to be found.
                  Conclusion 1. fake
                  2. not what itll look like
                  But idk dosent it look strange.

                        Anonymous, 02 Dec 2017A3 2018 is nowhere to be seen. Is this the end of compact p... morethis is funny, I read somewhere, there will be new iteration for A series that will follow S series numbering. there will be no more A3/5/7, but would be A8, A8 mini and A8+. it just a rumor, take a pinch of salt though.
                        I hope there still a place for A3, if doesn't, go for SE 2.

                          Anonymous, 02 Dec 2017Maybe because they want everything to have the same number ... moreSo A series will be like
                          A8 (A7)
                          A8+ (A8)
                          A8- (A3)
                          A8- pro (A5)
                          Really great idea (sarcasm)

                              Why not A7+?

                                A3 2018 is nowhere to be seen. Is this the end of compact phones from Samsung? Or they will live on in the form of S9 Mini?

                                      Maybe because they want everything to have the same number to indicate the generation, so not that people think the A3 would be an older phone than the A7. Just maybe

                                        honestly ... i getting confused with samsung device ...
