And no, the DA... moreYou are right the dac in the wireless headset use same power as the one in the phone.
but the phone has 3000 mah if not more power where headset have 200 mah to power everything.

But their software (iOS, not MAC) could really use some improvement in terms of features and usability. Then again so does google's but only in terms of speed and security.

Prometheous, 06 Dec 2017How can qualcomm become like Intel. They are already playin... moreQualcomm not competing with Apple A serie you apple licking machine.
Apple is putting a bigger soc ( take more space ) with bigger core that cost more.
If Qualcomm would put same size of die and same size of core its would be as fast if not faster than Apple A serie.
But they dont need to do that as they dont sell SOC to apple.
The day Apple sell A serie soc to others OEM to make android phone then its gonna be competition until then sorry but plz shut your pie hole.

SherlockHolmes, 06 Dec 2017ASUS and HP will do a convertible/laptop with SD845?! Meh, ... moreI been using Asus gaming laptop since years i had at least 4 of them and customers service was amazing every single time.
If you did something not covered by warranty and then complain because you dont get what you want its not because of bad service.

LLL, 06 Dec 2017I wonder if this SD845 could be better termed SD836 instead. HmmmHater got to hate right?
Go read all the improvement they are making to it instead of staying blocked on the horse power.
we cant even make a SD820 struggle so we dont need more cpu power we need others improvement that SD845 will deliver ( camera and video and AI )

FinnishInquisition, 06 Dec 2017Apple is ahead in the processor race because they adopted t... moreI don't agree with the 3.5mm removal being anything to do with advancing technology. One of the reasons Apple removed the Jack was to encourage adoption of lightning headphones (which require a licencing fee to Apple). By removing the 3.5mm Jack Apple has triggered the fragmentation of the headphone connector market: Lightning port, USB C and USB C with extra pin (HTC, Huawei etc.)
The dongles are a terrible solution, due to the low quality DACs used to minimize size. Maybe one day we will see the market adopt a universal connector (probably USB C) but that seems unlikely. Bluetooth is not good enough for a premium audio experience and Wi-Fi may work but wearing microwave emitters on your head is still a controversial concept.

We can discuss spec sheet wars and generic benchmarks all you want but none of them is relevant as real usage performance. In real life Apple X nor 8 are nothing out of ordinary, you still have some apps that lag, some that are slow and some that are quick. So the power of CPU isn't extracted as much as the benchmarks show, so something is off. Either software or all that power is really not there outside laboratory benchmark tests.

FinnishInquisition, 06 Dec 2017Apple is ahead in the processor race because they adopted t... more1. Fingerprint Sensor in a phone - Apple had not been the first, Moto Atrix was the first well before apple
2. Removal of 3.5mm Jack( not a good thing, i think we can agree to disagree on this, we have had our debate in other thread, no point repeating that) - Again Motorola did it first. At least announced the phone before apple did.
3. Samsung S8 and S8+ and Essential PH1 - all came before Apple iphone X and did sport better S2B ratio, essential even had a small ugly notch.
They are hated for many reasons but being visionary is not one of them. First iphone was truly great phone, it lacked some basic features but it changed the smartphone industry for better, again they managed that magic to a lesser extent with iphone 4 with design that was ahead of its time and at that time competition was playing catch up. But that was 2010, this is 2017 and for past 4-5 years Apple is playing only catch up.
As far as Mobile SOCs go, they lead Qualcomm by hefty margin on raw numbers, but real world difference in side by side comparison between SD flagships and Apple flagships is narrowing each year, to the point it is now becoming specific to only some advanced tasks such as video editing that most people buying any phone won't do anyways. I'm sure like Apple, Qualcomm will one day catch up in processor race too, but better processors is hardly something to be called visionary.

Apple has pretty consistently beaten the curve when it comes to technology, in both emphasis on nice designs, use of full-front touch-screens, touch fingerprint sensors, x64 architecture, removal of the 3.5" floppy disks, removal of the 3.5 mm port, all-in-one desktop PC's, etc.
People hate them for many things, but they certainly are pioneers and visionaries.

FinnishInquisition, 06 Dec 2017It's far more than replacing one connector with another. ... moreWhy you need slicker phone, for what? Phones are as slim as possible, you can put DAC or amplifier which will beat wired headphones, cause they have more space for bigger amplifier on headset itself, get the logic? So 3.5mm must have for quality reasons, and for convenience to be sure you no need to charge one more device in your life(wireless headphones)

Maame Raggae, 06 Dec 2017The next exynos might dust the SD845 completelyNot really, Samsung must balance exynos with 845 so S9 will have same performance with 845, so as typically, we will see incremental performance improvements, since exynos 7420, android chipset reach stagnation point opposite to Apple A chipsets, which just keeps getting better in staggering speed. If like that soon, iOS will be as good as android, cause computing power is way ahead on iOS side, obviously if Apple will decide to use it to improve iOS

Anonymous, 06 Dec 2017can you tell me point of replacing one cable with another? It's far more than replacing one connector with another.
Removing the 3.5 mm port from the smartphone means the space can be used for other components, devices can be made sleeker, internal layouts can be improved, etc.
For the audio equipment, it means the DAC and amplifier can be hand-picked and tuned for the specific drivers, you no longer have to worry about bad built-in DAC/amps and USB can provide powered features such as active noise cancellation, built-in equalizers, etc.
