The iPhone is more or less o... moreI think Apple is worried that's why they are sueing Samsung...the timing of the lawsuits is very strange...they launched the first one a couple of days before the official launch of Galaxy S2 and now when Galaxy 2 is about to be released in the states! Such an action generates high publicity and creates a very unpleasant enviroment for Samsung! Is it just a coincidence that Samsung is the biggest iphone rival? Too many coincidences don't you think? The design of the first Galaxy was well known but yet Apple didn't start eny lawsuit when it was released and didn't asked it to be banned! That's because apple didn't perceived Samsung as a huge threat! Now they are launching those lawsuits because they are afraid that SG2 will segnificantly decrease their profits even with the launch of iphone5! You're saying Apple has nothing to be worryed about! All these agresive actions taken by Apple prove they are worryed! No company resorts to such drastic actions if didn't felt threatened! Samsung only sold "only" around 10-11 milion units of galaxy only a third of iphone 4 seller numbers...ok...but SG2 is surely going to exceed the 10 million benchmark! The first Galaxy did very well in US! Imagine what the SG2 can do! Apple still hold 27% market share...that's respectable...but Android rose 6%...even if your market share hasn't dropt,it's a settback that users who abandoned RIM and Windows choose to continue with Android! The prediction is that Android will continue to grow rapidly and Apple will grow very slowly or even stagnate. The situation is not so rosy for Apple as you portrait to be. Android is an open platform a bit immature but it's still developing. Despite that it has grown rapidly and will continue to do so,and Samsung is the number 1 android manufacturer and will remain that way!

I don't want to pay almoast duble the price of the phone with a contract. I admit that Galaxy 2 has serious rivals,sensation and 2x being the most important of them. But the very positive reviews,the actual real-life performance of Galaxy 2 assures that it will sell a lot better then this devices. The first Galaxy had also serious rivals(desire,xperia10) but it managed to outsell them by a wide margin. I believe that Galaxy's main rival is the iphone. Samsung wants to persuade some of the apple costumers to change sides. I do believe that SG2 will be an even bigger succes then then first Galaxy and when it's launched in the US will be able to compete on equal terms with Apple.

Samsung came up with the "Hellllo" advert after Apple were talking about the death grip. I can now imagine Samsung using the opportunity to sell even more products as some will see this as Apple trying to stop a rival with phones that are more than capable.

I am so sick of the ibabies crying, if samsung smartphones were not a threat to apple they would not waste their time trying to stop the sale of their product in the u.s.. i am the guy u come to c when the newest phone u want comes out and i can tell u first hand the people we serve r all about android, and the samsung devices r leading the way. none of us in the store even use or want an iphone.....Team Droid...

Sun, 09 Jul 2011When someone pays 600% for a phone I really doubt that only... moreLook, anyone can get an SGS2 for *free* in a 2 year contract of as little as 34,50 eur a month - that includes unlimited internet access, and you'd pay an extra 120-150 eur for that phone in a one year contract. It's not expensive at all. And I agree, you get a lot of phone for your money with the SGS2, I never said it is a 'bad' purchase to make. I do, however, say that there are better options, also within the Android range.

The 3GS is more on par with many other Android devices but still competes against the free devices. Its not arrogant because its true. I'd love to get one myself but the list prices for the unlocked units from apple.com are too high for me. How is that arrogant? I know my limits, I know what I pull in for a paycheck... and it doesn't allow me to just go out and buy one. That's not arrogance, that honesty.
Now... You went on to mention that users are buying Android devices because they don't like Apple's "restrictions and control and enjoy the free Android world". I think you are thinking way to highly of the current demographics of smartphone consumers. Most people that talk about "restrictions" have no idea what that actually means! They seem the 400,000 apps and the possibilities are endless. Only to a techie does the Apple design seem restricting. I've never heard a non-techie use that sort of terminology when referring to the differences between Apple and Android. Most people haven't a clue what all of that means and couldn't give a crap about the specs of a phone other than maybe how good the camera is. Aside from that its mostly about screen size, how the phone looks, price.
The Galaxy S sold many, but only about a 3rd of what the iPhone 4 has sold.
As for "Jobs" doing it. He's the CEO but not God. He gets paid. He's on a board. He's not like the companies owner. He has to answer to that board of director's as well. He even pointed that out on several occasions to those that talk is if he thinks he's God. And at this time - Tim Cook is calling many of the shots. So Tim makes a decision and Job's takes the blame? Really?
As for the Apple-Samsung dispute... This is over patent infringement! Its not Apple crying. If that were the case then how come you don't hear people saying Nokia is crying or Microsoft, since they too have been in recent battles with the oh so wonderful Samsung. Honestly what is tarnishing Samsung's reputation here is the companies fanboys crying. Samsung has been the biggest copier in the mobile phone space and its about time someone put their foot down. They have no original looking designs - all copies. Other makers have the ability to be original, why not Samsung? BTW their home appliances suck too!
And Apple doesn't have a thing to worry about with Samsung. The smartphone market is growing rapidly. Apple may only have gained 1.5% share, but with the market growing so fast that share is A LOT OF PEOPLE! If the smartphone market was shrinking a 1.5% share might actually indicate a loss or a drop in units shipped. Apple has increased the amount shipped and sold with EVERY iPhone release! And there is no reason to think the iPhone 5 would not sell as many. Especially considering all of the rumors about Apple possibly releasing more than one new model. One rumor is an iPhone for the prepaid market. This could open up new doors and new customer's that would have otherwise never thought of getting an iPhone. But its all rumor.
Its been said on here before that the iPhone is currently kinda like a niche product. I'd more or less agree with that. But its one that holds 27% of the smartphone market here in the US and has a massively happy user base. Doesn't matter what company you are - that is success!
And with Apple's intense success in the tablet arena the iOS user base keeps increasing across multiple platforms. Remember - the iPod Touch also uses iOS. As does the Apple TV.

So you basicly are saying that iphone is to expensive and people choose android because it's cheaper? That's kind of an arrogant remark! I think there a huge gap between people who prefer Apple and the ones who hate it's restrictions and control and enjoy the free Android world! So I don't think that Android users can be easyly persuaded to join the merry fellows under jobs tight control! Android's market share has gone up 6%...it's on a continuous expansion...it absorbed the formal Blackberry and Windows users...Galaxy S did a good job in the US! By all indications Galaxy 2 will also be an hit...Galaxy 2 was designed fight with equal chances agains the iphone 5! That's the big showdown! And Jobs is trying to stop Galaxy 2 from been released or at least create a very unpleasant environment for Samsung "thanks" to the bad publicity! Is it fair to try to demolish an opponent by such methots instead of fighting him hand to hand??? It certainly is not!

In response to the 2nd part - I've said it before so here goes: Apple is one company selling basically only 2 models at a time and equalling 27% of the smartphone market (here in the US) while Android is available in dozens of models. Carriers are often offering many of these absolutely cheap and (no offense) crappy low end Androids either very low in price or FREE and sometimes buy one get one free. This is a much more attractive offer for many buyers that simply don't want to shell out money for a higher end option like many of the top end models that sell for for quite a bit of money. Had Apple put a model in that low end space I'm sure you'd see more people buying the iPhone. If nothing is available on iOS for someone to buy one if they really want one but can't afford it... they may end up choosing an Android or other device. This doesn't mean that they really wanted the Android over the iPhone. Just that due to certain constraints the Android made more economical sense. This is probably what also accounts for the lower satisfaction rating for the Android makers. The buyer wanted an iPhone but "settled" for an Android.
Me personally I am on a carrier that doesn't carry the iPhone... or I'd probably have one. So when I got my Galaxy it was kinda the same idea. I couldn't get the iPhone but settled for the Android. Honestly I should have chosen the N8 first rather than waiting.

I don't believe that eny survey conducted by eny company is representative to reveal the approval ratings of eny phone! Those surveys only show the opinions of the people who have answered it! How can you say that a group be it a couple of hundred even thousands of people who have answered the survey are representative for the whole mobile user community??? Even conducted by a trustworthy company those studies are not relevant in revealing the true opinion of the public! A clear indicat that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt are numbers...statistics is a cold science...they show android(ok..an alliance of android manufacturers) convincing more and more people! The numbers show that despide the fact tha Galaxy S did not achieve iphone 4 selles numbers, Galaxy 2 has a real chance of reaching those numbers! Sorry...figures and official statistics are better then eny survey!

1. The Nokia fans love Nokia for Nokia's good points
2. The Android fans love Android for Android's good points
3. The iPhone fans love iPhone for iPhone's good points
In between, wasting time by pointing out the weaknesses in each other's brands, hoping that insulting would be the key to converting each other lol.

Brother... but the way customer satisfaction normally works is users are asked to rate certain areas of their experience with the product. Generally this means that if a product gets generally "ok" results they will still sell. However when you have a product like the iPhone that gets such high customer satisfaction ratings it really sways the average much higher. So a few years ago Samsung's numbers were probably considered above average or at least at the industry average. This doesn't mean that everybody hates Samsung, just that users are not giving their products as good of a rating as some of the others. However, in contrast to that, it takes a lot for a companies ratings to be so high that it sways the average much higher. The users of iPhones are clearly not just "generally pleased" but "extremely satisfied".

Business means cash and when tens of millions of people buy your products and you cash in hundreds of millions that means people trust and appreciate your products! And when it's predicted that samsung will become the number one manufacturer there is no denying the quality of your products and the level of appreciation by the public..... I can understand why you are so angry and dissapointed...I heard simmilar storyes from disatisfied costumers! But I heard much more positive reviews from very satisfied costumers. I know we're on the diferent side of the fence because of our different experiences...

I only bought SIM-free phones so I don't know the procedures regarding a contract. But if that's the case with T-mobile that doesn't mean the situation is similar elswhere! You are only talking about one region! The sequals are made for users to upgrade! And I believe that many users upgraded their i9000 to i9100! Also the succes of i9000 is not the only reason for Sg2 succes! Everything in this phone is upgraded compared with the first Galaxy! So it's not a single factor...it's a complex formula! This phone was created to keep Samsung's present costumer and convince a part of Apple users. I do believe that it's a corect strategy! Second part...samsung developed what is considered at the moment the best display in the busines-superamoled plus, was the first to provide 1 gb of RAM,first released 12 mp phone. It sacrificed the chance to become the first handset with dual-core because of it's market strategy. So I am not denying the achievements of other companyes but Samsung also brought innovation into the game!

Sun, 09 Jul 2011I am trully surprised about your opinion regarding Galaxy 2... moreSee we have a different level of experience here. My Galaxy was nothing but a headache. So you can see why I am more or less turned off to both Samsung AND Android. Why both? Because I'm not sure who to blame. Samsung's obviously making lots of phones, but all of the satisfaction surveys I see on their smartphones are subpar. And when I look at Android and all I see is them trying to put so much into the OS at times that much of it is not really tested well enough over time, so its glitchy at best. And their app market has so many ripped and shady apps that some never worked on the phone. I downloaded like 40-50 apps and had trouble with most of them. Some of the apps that came with the phone never worked. A few would take a long time to load. Angry Birds would force close on me almost every time. Words with Friends did as well.
So needless to say all of that turned me off to Android/Samsung. I would consider a Windows Phone 7 device from one of the other's like LG or Dell. I think Microsoft has Android beat big time in the UI department. Everything I hear about WP7 is that it runs very smooth and is very usable. iOS I am very familiar with - I have it on my iPad and its great. Never a problem. Battery life is extraordinary! They 10 hours they brag about is true. And I am also now acquainted with Symbian 3. I like Symbian 3 for many reasons - stability is the biggest reason. Its not the greatest to look at but its ok. Android is a better looking OS but for me it was just too unstable. And I hear from others how horrible their battery life is. Mine was average/bad at times. The N8's battery life is very good.
So there it is.

But first of all....I fully disagree with you about the reviews presented here. Before buying a device I always researched mostly on this . The reviews presented here have been corect as I discovered after I bought them. I was fully aware of each handset strong and weak points. I bought Galaxy S last summer august I think. It had installed a very good 2.2 ROM(by someone who works for for Samsung-no afiliation with me). I never experieced eny major issues with it. I installed around 15 apps..it only crashed a couple of times in 9 months. Lags were very rare, also had no problems with display(dead pixels) or eny function of the phone. I upgraded to another 2.3 rom february this year and that period it was the as fast as ever! The only issue that bothered me was the short battery life. I have almoast nothing to complain about it!

Could we please establish that Samsung did *NOT* develop any noteworthy technology apart from the actual application of AMOLED? Getting tired of this 'innovative' Samsung that doesn't really exist.

Design ideas - LG/Apple/Nokia
And did no one ever tell Samsung that overclocking is potentially damaging hardware (ofcourse they know!)? We've known this since the beginning of tweaking processor speeds, which is a long, long time. No wonder these babies are gettin' hot, I've been predicting that since the 1.0 became 1.2 ghz.

However, only a fraction, and this is a *fact* (I work @ T-mobile and see the numbers and speak with the customers myself) actually upgrades the SGS to an SGS2. At least at this point in time, because 95% of these customers are still stuck with the SGS1 and a two-year contract, only a fraction got it as a one-year contract. And let me tell you this: those that come from the one-year contract are now buying HTC/LG/BB/Iphone. And again, this is a fact you do see in sales figures. The largest group of SGS2 buyers is actually the first adopter of an Android phone. Android is today penetrating into the mainstream market, and most people choose between the two brands that are (here we go again!) *marketed* the most. Which are those? In my area, those are HTC, and Samsung. Which models sell best? HTC's, and Samsungs.
Now you tell me again that the average consumer is capable of making a solid, well-researched and informed choice. I would, again, completely disagree. You dearly underestimate the power of advertising and marketing.
