The reviews I found were generally decent so I went for it. I was extremely disappointed after a short time with the performance of the device. So these profile sites do not always give a good indication of how a device will perform on daily usage by average users over a longer period of time. I loved the Galaxy for about a month until I started to encounter problems. I was almost a full Android convert (or at least pulled to neutral ground among all of the smartphone platforms) when this all happened. After some continued frustration I decided to ditch Android and get a phone that suited my needs. I sacrificed quite a bit in OS "look and feel" by going with the N8 but it suited my needs in regards to the camera. The OS is behind in its look, but its very usable and does what it does very well. I read reviews of the N8 as well and was pleased with everything.
So both phones went through the same process with me. The big difference - the N8 is still here and I've had it since early May. I was ready to dump the Galaxy only one month in. The only thing that made me skeptical was some reviews claiming their devices had problems. So far no problems with this one. Its trouble free as well.
Honestly I may have chosen a bad device to "try" Android. AFTER I got the phone I started seeing negative reviews and saw it rated very low on some Android forums and surveys. But now seeing Samsung's satisfaction rating... It all make sense. Nokia's rating is just as low unfortunately, but it probably has a lot to do with the OS, not the hardware. Symbian 3 is still behind in UI, big time.

Reputation is established and respect is won in years of continuous efforts of improving your devices year after year. A good reputation fallows a string of succesfull devices launched. It's very simplistic to put Galaxy's succes only on marketing. The innovative nature of the first and second Galaxy with so many specs encountered for the first time in a mobile device persuaded many users! The specs of the first and second Galaxy shatter the allegations that Samsung lack innovation. Also there is profound antagonism between Android and Apple users so all the people that hate apple's restrictions went for android. The succes formula of Galaxy is innovation+marketing+reputation+android...the second point i'd like to make...many people take into account reviews on different profile sites before making a decision. That emplyes a huge responsability from them. The serious sites release the reviews after the completion of a comprehensive analysis of the phone. They rigourosly test every part of the review in order to ensure a fair evaluation has been conducted! Even so...if some general problemes are discovered later the site informs it's reades. But no site and no expert can tell you how long your phone will last until something is damaged. The like span of a handset depends on the resistance of it's components and the way the user handles the phone. It depends on luck also. So nobody can predict the life span of a handset. Having said that...the reviews on profile sites are as accurate as they can be! I also tryed to be as objective as I could...!

And YES (you fandroids) this goes for those that buy Android devices. In fact I would say that if a buyer is VERY concerned about looks - you can get far deeper options from android devices than from the iPhone. So anyone that isn't looking for usability of the OS or specifications as their primary expectations, however IS looking for options in the appearance category, would most likely buy an Android. To a degree most buyers are looking for at least a phone that is easy to use. iOS is extremely easy to use. Putting aside specs most buyers don't care if its a 1.2 dual core or a 600mhz single core... as long as it runs well. Most will never look at the specs and most will never care.
So I agree with you fully.

Yes, some weak points of devices are brought to light in reviews. But certain issues simply come around after there are multiple users that have used a device for quite some time. Can these flaws be predicted, entirely? Yes they can. We have been using mobile phones for over a decade now, so there is an actual number of studies on the usage patterns of these products, just like it exists for every other product, especially electronic ones. It even exists for your kitchen drawers (how many times do they have to be opened/closed VS how long should the product last) and this is all balanced out into the durability of the final product. High-end products are given less leniency on this balance; in other words, high end kitchen drawers are slammed open/close a few thousand times more, than your basic IKEA-equivalents.
This is where true quality stands out: being able to use something years after it is purchased, and still being able to use it in its full functionality, without or with as little flaws as possible. I do hope you can agree on that?
A review, again, is *not* the final answer to whether a product is 1. successful 2. liked and enjoyed by its users and 3. a long-lasting, quality product. All a reviewer can do is use the device for the time it is under 'review' and objectively state what a device *can do*/ *should do* and how good it is at these tasks. Sure, he can also look at build quality, but not every flaw is shown after a few weeks or even a few months of intensive use. Besides, no single reviewer works with a device 24/7 as if it were his own device - I have yet to meet the first one who does.
In brief, don't go blindly on reviews. Yes, they are a creditable source of information, but only one of many. You'd be as misinformed as any other customer if you went and bought everything purely on the experience of someone you don't know at all who's been using it for a short period of time. Experiences from the field matter, they might even matter far more than a review.

I'm comparing that to the Galaxy I replaced. That Galaxy was a piece of garbage. Too bad though cuz I liked the ring tones.

And they haven't really brought "innovation"... just copying. Putting a dual core processor isn't necessarily innovative - just the next logical step. iPad 2 has a dual core. And 1080p is also the next logical step. That's not "innovation".

[deleted post]OH and btw... I never said that the iPhone had better specs than the Galaxy S2. No Apple fan or iPhone user does! The iPhone 4 is a year old. Everybody knows that. But just remember - its not about hardware - its about SOFTWARE! iOS is a much more efficient OS than Android. I'd rather have a WP7 phone over Android... and I can say that because my last phone was a Galaxy S.

Truth is - that whole "idiot" thing is nothing more than a lame excuse for deflecting the REAL reasons why the iPhone sells so well. The people that buy iPhones are no different than those that buy Androids. There will always be the religious sect of users on ALL platforms that are die hards and will never buy anything different.
And for your information... I've never owned an iPhone. I just know how to look at things objectively rather than with a biased perspective.

When they developed it nokia primarily focused on those aspects. From the pixon onwards Samsung wasn't interested in creating a phone to match n8 quality! As i've said because technology evolves very fast N8 is better than pixon because of the timeframe ! But looks like you can't understand valid arguments!

The dual-core,1080 video recording,superamoled plus display...that's why Samsung Galaxy 2 is regarded by many as the best handset! Overheating? That's a small issue compared with the restrictions and the level of control that apple exerts over it's clients!

The crappy Pixon, regardless if it was available for sale first or not is not what I was talking about. And I don't care that the N8 is newer. Samsung just cannot compete in that area due to the N8's supremacy. There is more to the N8's camera than just being 12 mp. Its far more advanced than the Pixon or even the Satio. And if I had to choose between those two it would be the Satio.
Back to iOS for a moment... here is something for you to consider:

You can dig it apart all you want but keep in mind this is based on which SINGLE phone is the best seller. If Android was so much better the iPhone wouldn't sell as many as it does.

And since a review is not made in a couple of days I believe that during the weeks that they test the phone eny defects have time to be discovered! So the reviews on profile sites are comprehensive and trustworthy. Eny technical issue that might occur (ribbon,display) is just an individual problem of the respective unit that can not be predicted. So in conclusion the reviews of profile sites are trustworthy!

Samsung sells a great deal, but they also MAKE a great deal. And generally a company that makes fewer models has the ability to properly control its quality. The result of that theory is the iPhone. iOS may not be the highest used OS in the world but the device it is on - its the best selling smartphone. 30+ million for the iPhone 4! That is a hell of a lot of iPhones. And its still selling!!! Add to that the iPhone 3GS which has also sold about 30 million. And if the iPhone 4 is kept onboard in its current state for another year - that number will probably jump to about 40+ million units sold. And you may now claim - contradiction! Its actually far from it. Since the iPhone is a single device Apple has been able to develop it and focus on it better than Anything Samsung sells. The resulting evidence in this is the JD Power surveys over the last few years.

Many users take into consideration the reviews on profile sites before deciding their next handset! So you're dismissing the opinions formulated by experts in this field? What are your credencials to do that? Also GSMarena and other profile sites inform the users of the different kind of problemes that occured on handsets in their news coverage! The life-span of a phone is determined by many factors: technical problems:ribbon,display,microfone...maner of use: talk time, the way the phone is handled,etc...those factors can not be predicted by enyone so it's absurd if you by example have a ribbon problem to accuse the site for not telling you! I think your simpathies with apple is preventing you to see the reality!

But I'd expect a response like that from a Fandroid. When faced with any level of information that makes your Samsung seem less than the God you make them out to be - you claim the source is crap since its "from the US". Get over yourself.

Apple isn't necessarily concerned with being the dominant player, but the best player! How many Android devices are available and sold in the US? DOZENS!!! Yet all they can do is outsell the lone iPhone by a mere 11%. Given the amount of Android devices out there and given how much BETTER the Fandroids claim it is - don't you think that Apple's iOS share would be tiny??? Its not. They hold an astonishing 27%! That 27% is captured by ONE company. The Android share of 38% is made up of many companies. I think its obvious that since Apple holds such a large share with only a few devices (and continues to grow its share) that Android and its handset makers are not exactly as dominant as they may think they are. Don't just look at this as 38% vs 27%. Dig deeper into the numbers and how those numbers are made up. I'd rather use an iOS device than any Android.

You made some great claims about Samsung bringing out the Pixon first yet it was announced a while after SE announced the Satio. You talked about the Pixon as if they are first at everything and great at it. I brought up the N8 to show you that they are NOT the best at everything, far from it! Samsung brings out phones just to impress the industry that they "can do it". When in reality these early to market devices suffer from problems. Any rushed product will do that. Apple was working on the touchscreen concepts for the iPhone and like iOS devices probably about a decade ago but waited until 2007 to introduce it. Why? Apple wanted to make sure that if they were going to delve into an unknown and uncharted area (for them AND for the industry) that they were going to do it right and be impressive. All that the SG2 brings to the industry is a higher set of hardware specs. Nothing new. And by pushing so much power hungry hardware into a cramped space - they have managed to create an overheating problem.

In the US android's market share has gone up from 32 to 38% while apple just rose 1.5 %...most people that abandoned Blackberry and Windows choose Android and not Apple! And since Samsung is the main android brand in US and is about ready to launch SG2 in the States...then the prospects for Apple are not rosy....So if we can't beat them let's sue and ban them...that Jobs motto!
