How do we get 3-4 day battery life & when?

17 December 2017
It’s not likely that we’ll see a revolution in smart phone battery technology anytime soon. So is there hope?

For me, 80h-90h endurance rating (10h browsing and 10h video) is more than enough.. We got fast charging technology which is great, but battery longevity is something important so I hope 1 day, battery with 3-4 years of lifespan will exist.. Today, after 1.5 to 2 years, battery longevity will reduce to 30%-40%,.., so tech like Qnovo will help a little I believe.. Let's hope something better for future, for us all".., tc"

    Peace from Malaysia"..

Great and very informative article. SSB (Solid-State Batteries) is supposed to be the next new battery tech, but none of us have even seen just a single specification about it. In the meantime, we have to reduce consumption to have better battery life.

With a 3 or 4 hours of usage per day my Z3C last like 8-9 days. Heavily debloated, all the useless social media is not installed just a Lite Messenger.

The problem with improving battery technology is that we'll just use it to make batteries and devices smaller. That's how I feel anyway; the general public prefers miniaturisation over practicality.

It's actually very easy on many phones just uninstall the carrier/manufacturer bloatware and/or install a custom ROM.

Fast charge already works fine (much better in my opinion) than wireless charging. The issue is users want their devices to last a whole day without needing to go for the plug. The solution:
                  1) Make phones with large capacity batteries
                  2) Make phones with removable batteries (which is not an option for $$ reasons or just because governments' want to spy on us)
                  3) Come up with new battery tech in which the batteries have very high capacity/size, charges super super fast and have a longer life span (graphene).
For now the only feasible solution is solution 1

AnonD-664713, 17 Dec 2017I think the consumer has forgotten how we all managed just ... more2cm thickness? Lenovo P2 not even a cm thick and manage to last a full day 24 hours of video looping marathon. Comes closest is Moto Z Play with hour less, next is Lenovo P1 Turbo with 3 hour and half less than P2 which is not bad still maintaining 20hrs+ video looping. All the top 3 are coming from Lenovo but then last one in the top is the Zenfone Zoom S from Asus with half hour less than P1 and 4 hours from P2 which is in the phone of top battery endurance that manage to pass 20hrs+ of video looping. And all not even a cm thick.

yes we can !! just buy lenovo p2/ xiaomi redmi note 4 or max versions and enjoy having best of the best screen on time :) They dont have the best cameras in the world, but big batterys compensate everything. If u need camera, buy DSLR camera for extra 600 euro. plus phone 150 euro = at the end same price as flagship newest phone with shity battery life and camera weaker then that dslr for 600 euros.

Even if mobile phone will have as little hw as being virtual showing on contact lenses, with all computing being done over internet, it wont last any longer, if not less. Miracles can happen as there is more research than before, but being limited is not most pleasant idea, even if we double that time. With new tech we want to be connected 24/7, so charging it is the only option. Point is how easy it will be. I imagine free wireless charging will be next big thing, it actually started in some places. Being charged on street, in car will be easy. I'm more interested how it will be done in mountains.
Tesla wanted to transfer energy wirelessly long long before, I hope that whole humankind today, with some supercomputers and AI can finally bring the end to this unfinished work of One man.

Max 1080p screens. Max 5" screens. 2mm thicker phone for bigger batteries. The ability to use 1 carrier technology at the time, like Nokia has. The 2g/3g/4g connections are killing the battery too.

It could be that during web browsing, the iPhone X's battery is lower than the 8 Plus because OLED displays are less power-efficient than LCDs while displaying white color (which most websites use for their background). Whereas, during video playback, the power efficiency of OLED displays over LCDs are observed, despite the former being of higher resolution.

Simples, turn your phone completely off (IE, power it down), when you are not using it. Messages and missed calls can always be returned. You'll get all week battery life at the least. And be more relaxed! And when you're in the car, it's easy to hook up to the cig lighter, so that's your satnav needs covered.
