Yes, it took Nokia 2 years to catch... moreI forgot to mention the N9, but it doesn't change anything. Although Nokia released the N9 in 2011, it was still worse than the competition. N9 is another very disappointing phone from Nokia. It's worse than their previous flagship (N8) in many ways.
Nokia N9 (2011): single core 1.0 GHz Cortex A8 CPU, 720p video recording, worse camera than in N8 from the previous year, Bluetooth 2.1, NO USB OTG, NO microSD card slot, Non-removable 1450 mAh battery
Nokia N8 (2010): better camera, Bluetooth 3.0, USB OTG, microSD card slot
Competition (Samsung Galaxy Note N7000) (2011): Dual-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9, 1080p video recording, USB OTG, microSD card slot, removable 2500 mAh battery

Yes, it took Nokia 2 years to catch up in camera performance to the competition. Pathetic. And this phone still remained worse/inferior in every other aspect. Yes, N8 had xenon flash, but didn't have LED flash. LED flash is more useful. The competition (for example Samsung I9000 Galaxy S, HTC Evo 4G, LG Optimus Z, Motorola DROID X, etc.) also had SD card, bluetooth mouse and TV out/HDMI features. So these featres were not Nokia exclusive. The truth hurts you, that's why you mention these irrelevant features. Android also was true multitasking OS. Moreover, Android also supported multiple CPU cores. Symbian supported only single core CPUs. The Nokia N8 had a weak 680 MHz CPU and a ridiculously low 256MB RAM. On the other hand, the competition phones had 1 GHz CPU and 512MB RAM. That's why the PS1 emulator and PS1 games were running fine on those phones. The N8 was too weak for PS1 emulation. Another humiliaton of the Nokia was when the GTA games started being released on Android in 2011. The only good thing in Nokia N8 was just the camera.
To prove how incompetent Nokia is, in 2011, Nokia released the 701 with the previous, 1 year old generation specifications, 1 GHz CPU and 512MB RAM. It didn't even have the camera from N8. It had worse camera than N8, the phone from 1 year ago. Nokia shot its own foot again. On the other hand, in 2011 the competition phones had Dual-core 1.4 GHz CPU, 1GB RAM and 1080p video recording. Some versions of Samsung Galaxy Note and S2 had 32GB storage. They totally destroyed Nokia.
When Nokia released the 808, it was a low-mid-range phone compared to the competition.
Nokia 808 in 2012: still only single-core 1.3 GHz CPU, still only 512MB RAM, still only 16GB storage, still only 360 x 640 screen resolution, the same as in N8 in 2010.
Competition in 2012 (Samsung Galaxy S3, Note 2): Quad-core 1.4-1.6 GHz CPU, 16-64GB storage, 1-2GB RAM, 720 x 1280 screen resolution, etc.
After 2008 and Nokia N82 (this phone was the peak), Nokia's fall began and was never able to catch up to the competition. It's fact.
So stop crying here.
Nokia's failure has nothing to do with iPhone and Elop. N82 was objectively much better than iPhone 3G. And Nokia was dying / suffering way before Elop.

It's time for people to step ou... moreI agree, Sony are one of the best OEMs right now because Xperia have distinctive designs compared to others, they're really cool. I also like the new Nokia line, I love the build quality. Samsung and LG are OK, but other OEMs all make same boring designs.

In 2010 Nokia release N8 with 720p video recording and even Dolby sound recording. That was ahead of any other smartphone maker. Not to mention that this phone had xenon flash, FM transmitter, SD card, blue tooth capabilities to attach mouse and keyboard plus HDMI port. It was like a pocket PC. With 256MB RAM plus 16GB ROM. Not to mention that symbian was true multitasking OS without needs for high amount of RAM as Android or iOS.
After that Nokia release 808, then 1020. Even before that noons can match Nokia in camera quality. There were slight attempt from Sony, but Nokia was camera king at least till 2013 when 1020 was released.
So stop spreading lies.
Nokia was too proud and fat to response in time to iPhone. Symbian was limited. Elop killed meego. He was the troyan whose to sell Nokia to Microsoft. He was responsible, together with Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, to ruin Nokia mobile decision. Kallasvuo was too proud and didn't saw the potential of iPhone, Elop killed last of Nokia.
