What about infra red capability? I own a Galaxy Note 4... there's hardly any new phones with an infra red feature.

Cell phones have been cooler. There were several formats, different features. Today they are more advanced, but they are all very similar. I remember the LG Black Label series, the Sony Cyber Shot models, Nokia N series ... Man, I really miss those times!

Oh yeah in my last post I totally forgot about camera shutter key. It is barely on any smartphone today, and it is very useful if you ask me. Also, IR blaster. I never used it to be honest, because I never had one on a phone, but it can come in handy. Also, front facing stereo speakers on HTC and Sony phones, and dedicated buttons for controlling music on older Nokia phones. I mean, there are still phones with stereo speakers, but only some are really front facing, and those slide out buttons for music controls were useful.

Anonymous, 26 Dec 2017I think you should learn the history of what happened to No... moreYou're wrong. The loss of sales of Nokia phoens was caused by Nokia, because Nokia released wores phones than their predecessors. For example N96 was worse than N82 and N95. And Nokia phones were worse than the competition's. While the Nokia flagship phones only had 300-400mhz CPU, 128MB RAM and video recording capability only at 640x480 resolution at around 2009, the competition had phones with 600-1000mhz CPU with GPU, 256MB or more RAM and HD video recording capability. So Nokia was far behind the competition and never was able to catch up to the competition anymore. This is why people started to hate and leave Nokia. Nokia ruined their own phones, didn't improve anything. They deserved the loss of sales.

Honestly, I would prefer a Nokia 808 Pureview working as it usually did, than any of these over-smart-phones that we have currently. Nokia were the pioneers in innovation.

Nokia can still make an impact if they get Symbian and Meego back on track, not everybody needs a spybot phone.

                    > iPhone started get more market, people were choosing iPhones over other smartphones like Nokia, BlackBerry and Windows (Windows phones that had a PC like interface with Start menu and all). This led to the sales loss of Nokia smartphones.

                    > Samsung, cheaper Chinese phones and Chinese clones of Nokia phones came to the market. This led to the loss of sales in feature phone market.

They lost lot of money during those days. Microsoft buying Nokia helped them to sustain a little longer with that cash, but the policies after the acquisition made it harder for Nokia to operate independently. Otherwise Nokia could have bounced back with Android.

You could have added user-removable batteries to the list. These days, phones that have a removable back, still don't have removable batteries.
It's surprising the number of features that brands like Nokia used to gain an edge over their competitors.

A lot of phones still have an fm transmitter.

Stephen Elop acts as a trojan horse inside Nokia to kill Symbian AND Maemo/meego in order to force Nokia to support Windows Phone.. Yup Stephen Elop was crazy enough to kill the great N9 on its launch day by announcing the death of meego.. Meego was going to be the future we'll never had.. Seemless multitasking of over 60+ apps on just 1GB of ram.. Just search the youtube video on Nokia N9 interface and Nokia N9 multitasking.. Your jaw will drop in awe as you stared at a 2011 phone that is far more advanced than today's Android Oreo

In around 2009 I also used to think that xenon flash is a very important feature and it's much better than LED. Since then I have realized that LED flash is much more useful and important. I use the LED as a flashlight almost every day. In the contrary I rarely take photos with flash on. And when I take photos with LED flash on, they are as bright as if they were taken wih xenon flash.

Of course you can argue that we can have xenon + LED flash combination, but a brighter LED flash ( double or a more powerful LED) is more useful than a single/dimmer LED + xenon combination. Because the brighter flashlight/torch feature the better.
