HTC, for an asian based company. Taiwan actually. They always release updates for Asia last. just like SonyEricsson and other android manufacturers. The best is either to stick to Nexus or jump ship to Apple who releases their updates in a timely manner without making people suffer by waiting and waiting as soon as they make an announcement.

Mine was updated yesterday, and I can say, it has no big issues really. It's noticable faster, it's slightly more economical than on 2.2, and with the new notification bar I do not need the options widgets (WIFI, BT, etc ON/OFF switches). That's cool... :)
My issues are not big: When typing on keyboard, I still can't switch to hungarian language, and it creates red dots under my message (as in MS Word) and I can't switch that off... :( Also the "all programs" menu looks a bit worse, but it's easier flickable.
Other than that, it's good to have!

              Thanks HTC! :)

hey Anonymous! my free RAM is much lower than before...
I used to have around 100-130 MB of free RAM on 2.2 while I only get 50-80 MB of RAM on 2.3... I think that's what they were saying about not enough memory on Desire (well Desire Z has the same amount of RAM) so they came up (as they said) with a stripped-down version of 2.3.3 and no update to Sense 3.0...
It's not a 'bad' update since i think i'm gettin a 'tad' more battery life and a 'bit' faster operation and i also don't have any problems with VPN connections (as i did on 2.2) but the low memory thing is bothersome as when u open a lot of programs at once and when u press the Home key, u'll find out that android has 'killed' htc home screen n u have to wait there for it to reload it again....
I've got the european htc ROM and was having problems reading "Persian" fonts, thought this would get fixed in 2.3.3 but it hasn't but in a rooted phone running 2.3.3 with CyanogenMod it's no issue!!

                        Desire Z owners-

How much free internal memory did you have when the phone was on Android 2.2? And how much free memory is there after you upgraded to Android 2.3? Has it increased / decreased? Thanks!

So, i updated my phone an here are some benchmarks:

                          #Benchmark name, Android 2.2, Android 2.3, Increase
                          Benchmark Pi, 1307, 1409, +7%
                          Fps2D, 57.5, 57.5, 0%
Linpack for Android (single thread), 33.54183, 33.85933, +0.95%
Linpack for Android (multi thread), 28.848, 29,143166, +1%
                          Neocore, 57.63, 57.63, 0%
                          Quadrant Standard, 1512.66, 1350.33, -10,7%

First thing i like in new android is tabbed notification area. With Quick Settings tab i can manage my connections very fast and i don't need a widget anymore on my screen to manage these connections. For some reason HTC Picasa Web Albums process is crashing constantly, i mean all the time. I force close it and after a while it crashes again. About tests - all these test results are average of 6 runs and done after restart of system. Most of tests show a small increase of score but Quadrant somehow shows decrease of score. I'm not sure why. On android 2.2, Quadrant was above Nexus One and I was very happy about it, but on 2.3.3, it's about the same.
I am in Estonia and I got update number 242.405.2, not the same as mentioned in this article. This is the new update, there wasn't any yesterday.
One thing more about notification area Quick Settings. I had already one problem with connection to mobile data. I checked it and it started to connect to but something went wrong i guess and it said "Turning on..." and nothing happened. Then I tried to uncheck it and check it again to try again, but it wouldn't uncheck it. I had to use a widget to disconnect and connect again.
So, overall, I expected a lot more from this update and looks like HTC needs to do some more works on (atleast) that version. I really hope that atleast battery life gets a little bit better.

I just got 2.3.3 update for my Desire Z last night and everything seems to be running smoothly. Update went without a hitch and the phones ui feels much smoother than before.
