Apple issues statement regarding iPhone batteries and performance

Let me make my point clear:
every company might produce some defective units, apple included.
it's that stating that they "would never do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades" and that their goal is to "create products that our customers love"
well... I don't think I'd love a device that slows down on me just because the battery degraded. And all of this happened without me actually knowing, for at least 2 generations of phones!... now that's a company that puts my experience first and not my wallet... right?

Anonymous, 31 Dec 2017Just do a google search for "nexus battery issues shutdown"... moreMy 3 Year ol' el cheapo $90 android's battery is still going strong despite heavy gaming (Asphalt, Real Racing 3, Clash of Clan) All day, while a friend of mine spending 800-1050$ on each device upgrade has bought, he had 5s when I met him, fingerprint and battery problems after one and a half year of gentle use (heaviest app in his phones is snapchat), upgraded to a 6, after 8 months, its battery time was reduced to 70% and one day its lcd gave up, exchanged it in warranty for another 6, that one worked fine, upgraded to 6s plus, battery time issues again after update, now upgraded to X and 11.2.1 has ruined the battery timing again. My Infinix Hot 2 had about 5.5 hours of SOT when I bought it and now its SOT is 4.3 hours. And also my friend treated his phone a lot more carefully, like travelling only in an airconditioned car where I left mine repeatedly in my car parked in sun in 40C or higher temps that phone often warned: "Battery overheating kindly disconnect charger and remove the battery". So yes, Apple Inc. is a fraud. Also my phone can last 4 hours of screen on time even if I keep the processor frequency to 100% all the time.

Just because you don't have the issue does not meant it don't exist. This does not happen to all older iPhones either. I tested parents phones old iPhones, neither of them where affected by the slowdown but they use their phones completely different to how I use it (I use it alot more and do more battery draining things like games) The battery on my old iPhone 6 was in a much worst state than theirs and was affected by the slowdown (and random shutdowns).

Sorry, I am reading some BS again. "Preventing phones with old batteries from shutting down..." wtf? I have S4, S6, still working flawlessly both with original batteries on them, never replaced, but for some reason my S4 never shutdown because of the batteries getting old. Yes it is user replaceable, but come on, what kind of shitty batteries Apple puts in first place what you need to prevent it from shutting down? If you pay arms and legs for your apple devices, they should pit batteries which last minimum 5 years, especially when it is not user replaceable, and usual Apple is full of ****, avoid it as plague

Kinda believe Apple's battery-life statement but don't get the reasonning behind not informing their customers.
Working in an airport in the electronics department store and have faced many customers with sudden death on their phone, all brands including Apple.
Got no idea why this keeps happening other than suspecting their phone reacting to the airport security systems/electronic-scans-whatever but then, being an airport employee my phone is being scanned at the very least 5 times a day, every day and ( knocking on wood here ) nothing happened to it, from Nokia/Samsung nor to any of my two iPhone models.
I did notice my iPhone 4s is way slower than my 6s but it's still working fine after more than 4 years of heavy use so...
Maybe i'm just lucky.

AnonD-684631, 30 Dec 2017https://youtu.be/yn-F45edIbI Look how frustrated am i-_-. T... moreThat didn't answer the question, again what possible reason did you have for buying an iPhones when all you do here is talking crap about Apple? Can't understand that.
Regarding gaming, which I find myself doing more on my iPhones than on my console, iOS has a clear upper hand. They usually run better on iPhones (easier to optimise for) and all of my current favourite games (GRID, INSIDE and Life is Strange) are still exclusive to iOS on smartphone platforms.

No matter how apple justifies the issue, the main problem was that there were no user participation involved. These are my own opinion, suggestions and questions about this:
1. If their algorithm can detect the battery deterioration, they are very capable of notifying the user of the event and explain what will happen to their phone but they chose not to. Why?
2. They can also include in the settings for the user to prefer performance or battery lifespan.
3. The implementation was discreet and only publicly found out by the user in the internet.
Now Apple is admitting their fault although implicitly because they were caught red-handed so they were having a discounted battery replacement. For me this is just a move to silence the crowd. Remember that the phone is yours, the updates were just for support and “improvements” and the user should be involved (in knowledge or in action) in every decision that might compromise the device’s performance. What Apple has done is not acceptable and very unethical (did they really care about ethics?) but hey at the very least, the phone is not exploding which is nice.

"Apple will release an iOS update in early 2018 that will convey the health of the battery in the software to let users know if it is affecting their performance and if they need to replace it."
in short... so they can continue to milk the sheeps

Apple apologists can continue to be slaves to this company. Continue to waste away precious metals to get the latest iPhone because it looks cooler than the previous only to cover it up with a hideous case. Then dump e-waste to third world countries to Ghana. The iPhone X is ugly as sin anyway. Will be designed reused for the next 3-4 years. Apologists not accepted.
Apple doesn't even want your iPhone to be easily fixed. Like having $200-$300 billions of cash reserves is not enough to keep the lights on over there. Apple isn't charitable. They aren't flexible. They are all about fashion over function and compromise over choice. Catered to hipsters who don't know a thing about tech. Then copy features found on other platforms for years and their fans think they invented it.
Apple doesn't care about you. Stop defending them. They only care about slowing down your old iPhone so you can buy the newest one.
