Why does the article try to insinuate that there could never be a reason for apple to do this when there obviously is? They didn't want people to just buy a new battery and carry on with their old phones so they deliberately never told customers about how to fix a quite irritating and performance damaging issue. That's a clear fact, hey could have disclosed the information and still carried on with that practice since people had the option (even if deliberately damaging to get even more money out of customers with battery replacements anyway) but they stood to gain even more by having customers by more phones.

This is quite a shameful practice since apple overcharge for a lot of accessories and phones anyway but they are obviously a quite greedy and now provably dishonest company. The article hit the nail on the head in saying they had to be aware of this issue being discussed and customer concerns so why would it have taken years to even have Apple be honest and upfront and performance damaging practices? Well, they wanted people to not know and not have an idea that the cheapest option was to buy a new battery. Shady company and a lot of people trying to defend companies withholding information to cheat customers, what idiot would defend that sort of shady practice?

'Planned obsolescence might work in segments where there isn't a lot of competition and your customers have have no choice but to buy from you,'
Even from a rational perspective, apple operates within it's own structurally designed eco system which is meant to make it difficult to leave. They are not consumer friendly and never have been with purposeful overcharging of proprietary technology, forced removal of things like exchangeable batteries and the headphone jack (even before waterproofing became a potential benefit for this move) and there usual attempts to lock people into their own eco system while making it more difficult to move elsewhere by no allowing a lot of their stuff to work on other systems.

Apple has already cushioned itself for any impacts from treating customers poorly and it does it regularly, pricing and lack of support is just the easier ones to get away with and nowadays when they are caught out deliberately slowing down batteries and not telling people they can have their performance restored with just replacing the battery then why would they withhold that information other than to benefit from it? The article seems to try and take a tonal shift into ignoring the obvious, companies don't lie or hide these sort of practices unless it is for their benefit. In the age where they are happy to legally bombard you with end user agreements, T&C's and whatnot over every little detail you believe they somehow forgot for years to mention this sort of thing for no reason?

Mr. Prasad has been vocal about his liking for Apple, going even to the extent of adding 3 personal (non-news, opinion based) text paragraphs, which is ok, but one topic was not touched by him:-
Why do other phones not switch off suddenly, even after years of usage and no battery replacements? I have one such phone, its an Android, but OS should be no such problem, or should it?

Raphi7, 30 Dec 2017by your logic almost no smartphone manufacturer cares about... moreYes its a design choice invented by apple to make profit. Which most companies just blindly followed seeing the apple profit in doing so. But still Samsung and LG gives atleast one or two model every year with removable battery which shows their commitment to customers.
Note 7 is best example how a non removable battery can be dangerous.

[deleted post]What I got from the article is that he thinks Apple should be accountable for this lack of transparency and communication.

"But he is a known iPhone fan/user." All the more reason he called Apple out on it.

Oathbreaker, 29 Dec 2017So it's a $29 Apple apology for something users never asked... moreMy ancient Iphone 5s which is more than 1 year old is currently running IoS 11.2.5 smoothly. I don't see any slowdowns.People should know how to take care of their phones. I don't buy new iphones just refurbished ones(cheap in my country) so that apple can't cheat me with their outrageous prices. So am not worried about this battery/throttle gate. Never buy latest/new iphones.
