if Apple want to take the horsepower out of the cpu to protect the battery you should at least be given the option. Apple control everything and in some ways thats good and in others its bad really bad. This business of it protecting the battery is really just hogwash. The truth is, if your phone is running slow your gonna want to upgrade sooner, kerching apple.

BigMillions, 30 Dec 2017you must be using old Samsung phones. That is no longer an ... moreYeah! They lag right away!

But seriously, I bought a S8, and it's already lagging, not too badly, but still. I have a year old OnePlus 3T, and it behaves much more smoothly. But in terms of hardware, I would go for Samsung, it's just that their Software lags down too fast, I thought it was at an end when 8 Series of Samsungs were released, but I was wrong...

The supplied picture feels like a blast from the past.

The S7 edge is a 5-star success and is aging gracefully. But on the other hand, the G5 hasn't aged well at all.....

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2017Both suck now. People buy them just for name not for quality.I actually buy Samsung devices because they tend to have the best and most useful technology and ecosystem.

Anonymous, 29 Dec 2017That's a good example of why the updates are unnecessary. ... moreThat's not entirely true, if the specs of a phone supports further updates then it should receive the updates, it's all down to the manufacturers, and now days even phones 1gb ram can support oreo

In summary: If the phone detects that the battery has degraded to the point it can't power the CPU at full speed the CPU is undervolted/underclocked to avoid restart/shutdown.

I have experienced abrupt shutdown in all my phones (at around 30-40%) before. On my S5 I just bought a new battery in a year and it was fixed. In my xperia I'd undervolt my CPU after a year. My LG G4 would shutdown at 60% and would power up after a few minutes left to cool down (heat limits battery output). So yes LG and Samsung don't slow down phones but mainly because they don't care.

Limiting the cpu demand to match the battery supply is not a bad move. What was bad was that Apple didn't make it clear. The fact that the new batteries make the old phones as fast as before is proof that this is not planned obsolescence but rather the opposite. Apple should have just said it though and let the user know. I really think apple does not do planned obsolescence as I still use my iphone 5s after 4 years and 2 months as a daily driver and it still hold well.

To be fair, do Android manufacturers let the user know when thermal throttling is applied? As thermal paste degrades thermal throttling is applied more often. It was HORRIBLE on my LG G4. But it was LG and nobody cared. People just love to hate apple.

Markli, 30 Dec 2017This is the hot topic now a days. (Below Opinion is based ... moreYou were probably an unlucky one.

                          I'll share my story, too:

I had both an Android and an iOS phone : a Mi 5 and an iPhone 6s. Yeah, the Mi 5 was only like two-thirds the cost, but availability of authorized service centers is a concern for many people including me, but I like a bit of risk so whatever. The iPhone had official warranty, and the store I bought it from was nice and actually did service and replacement unlike the horror stor(i)es in other places.

Both were very powerful, and very dependable. Even a year or so after I got them, after many charges and files loaded, they still both do what I want them to do very well: games, video, skype, minor document edits (I have Office 365 so it's no problem for either).

TL:DR : they're both good for me, and I enjoyed both of them. It reinforced my belief that the iOS vs Android war is dumb. The end.

This is the hot topic now a days.
(Below Opinion is based on my own personal experience while using an Apple and An android Phone.)

                              First of all:
For all those who are saying that android phones (Samsung, Lg, google and others) are laggy or there are booting issues. Please don't compare a cheap/ low end android phone with a high end Apple phone (As Apple only manufacture high end phones).

The compassion should be like with like means u have to compare a high end android phone with Apple high end phone as apple only manufactures high end phone each year.

                              Second Thing (My personal experience):
Currently I am using two phones and that are Apple iPhone 6s Plus which was released in September, 2015 (Around 2 yrs old) and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which was released in September, 2013 (Around 4 yrs old). I updated both phones whenever i get any update from their respective companies.

Currently My iPhone 6s Plus is working so slow. For me it is so slow that it is really annoying me. First I didn't know that Apple purposely slowing down old iPhones. I was thinking that there was something wrong only with my phone so i deleted all pictures, documents and games but still my phone is slow as hell then letter i came to know that Apple purposely slowing down old iPhones. Honestly i felt pain and so bad cuz for me Apple was another name of premium phones is terms of performance.

On the other hand im Using Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from 4 years and it is still running fast as it was performing 4 years ago. I still play heavy games on it and never find any issue. there is no lag or any issue. Note 3 was my first samsung phone and im really amazed by its performance.
Im also surprised that why we don't mention all Android high end phones when we praise only Iphones. High end android phones are equally good as Iphones.

But after such a bad move made by Apple cuz of which i am also suffering with my iPhone 6s Plus. i am really disappointed. And if we talk about high end phones so i can say that now android phones are on better side as android phones have capabilities to work good and up to the mark even after 4 years usage and their companies don't let down ur highly paid phones like apply did.

I was about to buy Iphone X in February but now im canceling the paln and wait to see what will be Apple next step. I cant spend my hard earned money on Iphone X if they will treat it the same way they did all their previous phones.

Many ppl will agree or disagree with me but this opinion is based on my own personal experience.

                              Thanks,

Samsung just sells phones that explode or can't keep a charge after 6 months, causing the phone to go in a boot loop after the battery reaches 30%..

Note 3, battery failed after 8 months, had to buy a new one.
Galaxy s3' replaced 2 batteries with in one year..
Note 4 replaced 2 phones in the first mont because of battery problems that caused the home to boot loop after turning on the camera.. also replaced 2 batteries on that phone.
Galaxy Camera, laggy unusable camera that can't keep ancharge and also had to replace the battery..

I switched to a Huawei Mate 8 two years ago and I still can go 2 days on a charge and the phone is still fast, I can use any app with out lag. I plan on using this phone for another year or till it dies.. also don't want a glass phone, I tend to drop my phones and don't want to deal with cheap phones that they call premium!

Samsung can't make battery's and figure how to make a charger that doesn't kill the battery!
