Anonymous, 01 Jan 2018First time they have verrry little clearance and the batter... moreHow did you know the cause when samsung don't even know? Note 7 was fine bar a minute amount of batteries that were effected by mistakes made on behalf of the manufacturer they employed to supply them. Has happened before to other battery powered devices but at least Samsung had the guts to pull the product even though 99.9% of them were uneffected by the faults & perfectly fine. Still use mine every day as have 100s of 1000s of people without 1 fire.

I own a NOTE 8 and I'm not facing any issue with battery. I had some lags at times so in that case I had to RESET my phone. and now its better. I guess it might be due to Application that we install...MAYBE....

I got the same issue with my Note 8 unable to go on charge mode after it got drained and reached 0%. I eventually was able to forcefully have it charge using a 3.1A constant current charger which comes with my Dewalt car battery charger. No other phone or USB chargers I currently have work. I used to see this on Apple devices when my friends are always complaining their device isn't charging after they drained it. I used to have an old Samsung Tab charger and it works on those devices. The new fast chargers will not work. Find a constant current charger somewhere and try it.

The batteries are consumable and vulnerable. Sealing a consumable / disposable part of the phone (the battery) is the worst idea (planned obsolescence).

I have discovered that phones won't charge an absolutely flat Li-ion battery. I recently needed an emergency phone to lend to someone. I tried an old phone that had been unused for at least 5 years. It was dead as a dodo and when hooked to a charger, nothing happened, even after a couple of hours.

I then considered that I sometimes have this sort of problem with absolutely flattened Nimh batteries and a smart charger I use to charge them. Sometimes it would refuse to charge what I considered to be perfectly good batteries and would just indicate the batteries were faulty. With those batteries, I had thought the near zero ,or negative voltage in some instances, was the problem so I had put such batteries in an old 'dumb' charger, that would just force feed any battery it was fed, for 15 minutes or so until a multimeter showed some voltage, then I would put them in the smart charger which would then decide the batteries were OK and would then charge them.

So I took the battery out of the 'dead' phone and using rubber bands, managed to get a pair of wires to press against the contacts then fed 4.2V straight into the battery for 15min. A multimeter now showed the battery had a positive voltage. When I put the battery back in the phone, it immediately started to charge the battery and the phone became usable again.

After that, I bought a new replacement battery for my phone. When I put the battery in, there was no sign of life and the phone refused to charge. Took the battery out and did the same thing I had done before and same thing happened, the phone now 'recognised' there was a battery in it and started charging as it should. It's been fine ever since.

I think Samsung are either going to have to replace those phones or open them up and replace the batteries. Non-removable batteries are not a good idea.

Anonymous, 02 Jan 2018The amount of hate Apple get in these threads is comical : ... moreDoesn't help that Apple are the biggest phone provider in the market so they are a common comparison for many but to be fair Apple has a lot of buzz lately with the tax evasions, slowing down of batteries and the recent iphone x releases. Unfortunately they are just easy to hate on when they don't treat customers good and still have droves of fanboys but back on topic then, glad to see Samsung fixing the issue.

It is the standard problem with lithium batteries - if the charge falls below certain level, the charging start may take more time or not start at all. Therefore, Note8 software just lets the phone work for too long, it should force the powerdown a bit earlier and problem fixed.

Ones with some soldering skills and a bit more courage - make a cable with correspondig usb type on one end (depends what device you have) and possibility to send more voltage to the other end. For example just leave terminals open and attach 9 volt battery to it. YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE POLARITY RIGHT AND NOT LEAVE IT ATTACHED FOR MORE THAN COUPLE OF SECONDS AT THE TIME! Those higher voltage kicks wake the battery up. I have used 9 volt batteries to wake up digicam batteries which have probably been empty for more than a year and refused to charge normally.

A true company that cares about their customers is the one who will not let their customers get a bad product.
Of course they can't do anything yet because the information from the users that suffered from the problem are still insufficient.

And we don't have to own an iFruit X to prove that we are right. That phone is nothing but a good phone with very unreasonable price tag.
And you may have never asked, but I've tried one of these phones in retail stores myself and it ain't anything special, not that it has something cool inside that makes it worth $1000. (Except it is an iFruit.)
