Apple A5 chip overheating might be delaying the iPhone 5 launch

15 July, 2011
Here we have another interesting theory on what might be preventing Apple from releasing the next iPhone yet. The latest bit of online gossip has it that the problem lies within the dual-core Apple A5 chip..

Its funny how an article like this, even though GSM even stated in its description that its merely a "theory" based on a rumor (etc etc), will bring out all of the FAndroids and there need to bash anything Apple or iOS. IF this is true at all... doesn't it make sense that Apple is waiting to bring out the next iPhone so they can fix this problem? Unlike other manufacturers that release products that DO overheat and are filling up forums left and right with complaints.

And I see many comments in here that this "problem" will end the iPhone. When a product is the single best selling smartphone on the planet they only thing they risk from any "problem" is a slow decline, not an instant disappearance.

And the iPad comments... someone noted here that the iPad was going to be done soon because of all the Android tablets out. Umm... There have been android tablets in the market for close to a year now and NONE of them have even come close to slowing down the iPad's momentum or ratings among its customers.

[deleted post]The Samsung Galaxy S 2 does indeed get hot, Tom. Not a little, but a lot. Most phones aren't suppose to get so hot they shut off or are too hot to hold up to your face to make a phone call. That's a defect. If you do a search in google or yahoo or bing you'll most likely find a great deal of links related to the galaxy series overheating. Many phones will become "warm". We are talking about HOT here. A phone is not suppose to get that hot.

And this article is merely a rumor, not confirmed.

          Don't worry, Steve says it's a feature - built-in "magical" hand-warmer for cold weather!

Seriously though, Apple are about design - they in general aren't the best at Electronic Engineering and have stretched themselves too far by pretending that they know best in insisting on designing their own chips.

haha.. seems the only thing they have time for now, is taking their opponents for court.. Apple's recent law suits are kind of like a kindergartner running home crying 'mommy, mommy' because some kid has a better toy than he has.. They should be trying to produce products that'll get them more customers that they can place in their golden prison..

So this is the reason Apple wants to stifle the life out from every other top, should that be thinner, droid in the market? Steve Jobs just face it, SGII is 8.5mm thin and does not have an overheating record to deal with; and may God help you if you want to make the iphone 5 thinner than the galaxy. Jobs,so now you will start suing each manufacturer exceeding the iphone4 thickness claiming to patent the millimetres huh? What goes around comes around. Jobs, greetings from Africa!

I have a lot of respect for the iphone i used to have one .. iphones are always a solid device and good quality and it annoyed me to see apple suing almost everyone of its competitors(htc samsung) as the fight for supremacy on smart phones is heating up, i wonder what apple agenda is.. well i hope they fix this problem i do want to see a iphone 5 and what new things it can do.. well i am not a pro iphone and pro android although right now i am using a lg p970 and i love it . i am a admirer of innovation and quality and if the iphone 5 is that good well i do want to have one if i can afford it ha ha ha ... well goodluck to apple i hope you fix this so we can finally see the iphone 5 soon

Well good that they react before launching it. Not like Samsung Galaxy SII. Samsung Galaxy SII heats up like hell. I tried it in an electronicstore and after gaming and tryin to surf some web it got very hot. So hot that i had to stop testing it and put it back. These modern phones simply are too thin. If the processor heats up even abit it makes the whole phone hot. OK thin is trendy but enough is enough you can't soon even hold a phone in your hand.

Why do they need dual core, Current (iPhone 4) processor is doing pretty well and can handle additional load.
