Calm down people, Sony has listen to you to trim down the bezels a little,increase the stb without necessaryly using 2:1 ratio, activate the fps to all region, using SD 6xx intsead of Mtk, increase the thickness probably for more battery and guess what? It is mid and low end Sony afterall, not a flagship.
For your comparisons before hating to an unreleased phones, bezels on low-end series of
Sammy J and equals
Lg K and equals
Huawei Y and equals
IPhone non X
And much more
are not yet adopting small bezels.

Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra will have Snapdragon 630 processors, unless Sony becomes greedy and puts the SD 450 on the XA2.
If XA2 has SD 630, the L2 might have Helio P23 or Snapdragon 450.
If XA2 has SD 450, expect using only Mediatek 6739

The shape of the phone is reminiscent of the Lumia 800 / 900 phones. This is a beautiful design. I am not concerned about bezels, but if they truly want to stay relevant in the market globally, then they have to modernize the design more by reducing the bezels by a significant amount. As for the thickness, actually, with how thin the phones are now, they are becoming less comfortable to hold unless you use a case that adds a nice amount of thickness. And for those who say get a powerbank instead, do you really prefer carrying 2 thick devices (1 phone and 1 powerbank) than carrying 1 phone whose battery can last you more than a day? Not that this phone power management can do that, but all I'm saying is, if the thickness will mean more days in battery life, then by all means go for a thicker phone.

Why in the world do you(Sony) have these huge bezels even when they dont use it (eg : navigation keys), seriously Sony, just dont screw up the camera on the XZs this time, and please 16:9 means navigation keys off the screen and 18:9 means on screen

I really like the design. Sticking with the 16:9 body ratio is not that bad at all! The design of the phone is better since I think Sony will go all metal this time. Rear mounted fingerprint sensor is also great especially that the phone is big. I hope though that the Snapdragon 630 rumor is true and that the phone despite being thick, I hope it houses a big battery this time.

It's just 7.9mm thick.
XZ Premium has 5.5" screen with 3230mAh battery.
It is 7.3m thick.
I think with 8.5mm and 9.6mm thickness, Sony can put larger batteries on these phones, granted the XA1 with 2300mAh battery and a SoC not known to be power efficient, has scored an excellent 72h Endurance Rating.
