Honestly do people watch the sides of the video, top or bottom??? We all focus on the center

The screen on the sides of the 'notch' should be used just to display system indicators and notification icons. No images (except wallpaper) and no videos. It's just extra space where you put those indicator icons instead of keeping them on the main screen. Simple.

Imagine the screen is a normal, rectangular one - like leaving a thin bezel on top of the phone. Now, instead of having wasted space there, just extend the screen on to where the blank, unused areas are, and there you go! You just got some extra screen real-estate for those system indicators like battery, time, etc.
The 'notch' doesn't take away from the screen. The 'normal screen' is extended around the camera and light sensors. As simple as that.

stupid notch design. If you die die must have a notch for the camera,just leave a thin bezel. The notch itself is so ugly just like the apple airpod. And freaking shit blatant copying..even xiaomi has move on from copying to innovating with its mi mix series.
