LG will rename the G-series starting with the phone formerly known as LG G7

03 January 2018
The company might go with a two-digit naming scheme or something else entirely.

Sort by:

They should just transition into using V. The G7 therefore would be called V40 and the V40 will be renamed V40 Plus seeing as it's bigger anyways. Either way, don't really care which they choose, they'll probably screw up within a year's time again.

I think some phones till G5 suffered bootloop issues and LG had handled these issues in the worst possible way. Because of which they lost their loyal customer base and bad word of mouth publicity is still haunting them. They should have stopped/changed the G series after G5 as G6 failure was enevitable. Also LG also has history of launching phones at high prices and reducing it significantly within months. So many buyers had reasons to be pissed off. Should change name of all their main series including V. Also extended no questions asked warranty should also be there at some premium like apple. Without which mere Changing names won't produce desired results for LG. Technically LG has every capability to produce class leading phones but their bad brand perception in in their way.

Mr Bluesman, 03 Jan 2018It also might be because people think the G Series is no lo... moreLG ruined both their G and V series with G6 and V30, because they removed the essential features that were unique to LG phones: removable battery, IR blaster. And they started copying Samsung/Apple with the worst possible design: 18:9 screen, glass body, curved edges and corners. Samsung ruined their phones with S6 and Note 5 by copying Apple.

V10 and G4 have much better design than V20 and G5.
V20 and G5 have much better design and features than V30 and G6.
The mobile phone history/industry come to the end with G6 and V30 because they follow the idiotic trend. There will never be new flagship phones made with common sense in mind, with the same features as V20. Therefore V20 became the ultimate all-in-one phone. There won't be any new phone worth buying. Fortunately V20 is futureproof.

This wouldn't be a first for LG.
We had the L9, the L9 II then the L90.
It is silly but that's why Microsoft skipped "Windows 9" and Firefox dropped their old version numbering scheme (we had FF 1-4 during 7 years then FF5-57 in the following years...) just to catch up with Chrome. Ok, it's not silly, just ridiculous...

I hope they brand the phones with some real names. "I got the new G" doesn't mean anything to anyone. They should have something like galaxy, pixel or iPhone. Where you can tell someone "I got the new Pixel" and they know you're talking about a phone from a certain lineup and can look for it without knowing the exact model like "LG V30".

Doesn't matter what LG do, they have failed on every level possible and their excuses are so lame they don't make any sense anymore.

G40 for H1 and V40 for H2, perhaps. But I do not mind if they abolish the G-series completely either when they already have a V-series, nor vice-versa. They'll pretty much have the same SoC, anyway

                            LG 69

It also might be because people think the G Series is no longer an avant-garde device after the G5 failure and it reminds them of how unreliable LG phones are.
The G3 was pretty good but had issues and the G4 was underpowered for safety (SoC related). The G6 was a step in the right direction but the outdaded processor didn't helped.
Thankfully this is changing with the V Series, the V30 is a serious device with great specs, so let's see what happens to the former G.

Its time of the year again for name change and start confusing people and old users with very 'creative' naming scheme.
