05 January 2018
This mid-range chip is rumored to use the same Kryo cores as the flagship Snapdragon.

Haha! I bet after the SD630 gets super overused, OEM's will shift to using SD460 in ALL lower to upper midrange phones instead of using SD640 or at least SD636. And it's very unlikely that a new phone with SD660 would be launched this year.

Bring the 660 first. Availability is super lacking. Qualcomm not doing a good job at distribution. 670? You kidding me. Sure, a great chipset that we will never see but on ONE phone only.

Dilmeet, 05 Jan 2018You are spot on sir! We hardly saw SD660 based devices, we ... moreI agree.. But the display size and resolution has got more effect on battery life.. xperia xz1 &xz1 compact battery life was impressive for what it got inside to power it. 1080p 5.2" display with 2700mah on xz1 and 4.6" 720p display on compact version with same 2700mah battery.. I saw huge difference and better battery life compared to 5.5" qhd displays in competition.. (just based on gsmarena's battery life tests). Even the Apple iPhone 8 battery life is just very very good with 1800mah battery(pathetic 3g talk time though ). I think With qhd displays even iphones would fail..
I think it is Android OS which is battery life killer.. but galaxy s8 once again prices this wrong with its 5.8" qhd display 3000mah battery.. it was beast..

      **Just my view..

Dilmeet, 05 Jan 2018You are spot on sir! We hardly saw SD660 based devices, we ... morethat's true, xiaomi using the 625 pretty much on every device that aren't flagships.
The 625 is like 20% faster than my old 2013 nexus 5. Keeping in mind my nexus 5 cost me 359euros.
While many say the SD 625 is a good SOC for me, it is not. Games like Lineage 2, real racing 3 don't even hit the 60fps mark. In terms of UI it isn't that improved from my nexus 5 in terms of speed. If i take my oneplus 5T which cost me 499euros, now that is fast and in a different league which is logical.
I just wish manufacters would forget the 625 and move on to the 650/660. Many picked up the 625 because considering performance/price, that chip was a bargain. I heard it sold as low as 15-20dollars a unit, while the snapdragon 835 goes up to 70-80dollars unit

Whatever. Phones with SD670 will probably come out in mid to late 2019.

Surficial, 05 Jan 2018Likely to have cpu performance like the previous flagship 8... moreWaiting for the day when we will see SD660 devices. SD670 sounds good but on paper.

We hardly saw SD660 based devices, we hear SD670 and all that there is in the market is either SD625/SD626/SD630 or SD821/SD835. Manufacturers are launching SD630 as entry level and mid-range with a flagship sporting SD8xx so what we as consumer get? Pay less have battery, pay more get performance you may never need or able to use! Balance anyone? None so far.

Likely to have cpu performance like the previous flagship 835 but half the gpu performance, that's the recipe of the 650 and the 660.

When I see the SoC 670, 640 and/or the rumored 636 in any North American device I will believe it.

It doesn't matter since not a single true mid ranger will use it just like it's predecessor the sd660 which was only used by a 600$ oppo phone.

The 660 was a ghost chipset since most Chinese manufacturers decided to stick with 625 in their mid-range offerings even if it degraded performance from previous generation phones that were built on 650 and selling customers the usual "good enough performance" - better battery life BS.
