Nokia 8 gets a poor DxOMark score

11 January 2018
The company's current flagship smartphone can't hold a candle to top scorers such as the Google Pixel 2, Apple iPhone X, and Huawei Mate 10 Pro.

Look, I don't own XIAOMI, OPPO or Vivo phones cause not I'll say they are bad, but it's too much trend!!!! That's why I will pick a phone that does not make a trend news. (NOKIA 6)

Phones these days are just looks the same. 18:9, no headphone jack, AMOLED, etc... I mean why would manufacturer should follow what they says?!!! That's may be the Mobile phones sale are too weak.

BTW people's opinions are the worst among all forcing you to go into something that you don't love it which is why Nokia, HTC and Sony are refusing to hop on the trend. They just want to be themselves!!!!!!!!

Looks like Nokia forgot to or didn't mind feeding some paid bafoons. Nokia 8 may be bad in comparison but ranking it below an 80 is blasphemy. Go to he11 dxo, nobody cares for your scores.

Nokia is dead, they stabbed themselves in the gut about 10 years ago when they failed to adopt Android and instead got in bed with Microsoft, got HIV and Herpes from Microsoft, then got dumped!
I see no way back for them. They'll linger for a couple of years or so then die away.

Lightning McQueen, 13 Jan 2018Yaya, but according to the GSM arena in the list as of one ... moreI would say they should start from there Home market that is Finland and then move to Europe market and then To Asian countries. But it started off in the biggest market with known brand. It they would of have HMD as there brand name then they would be same like any other start up company like Leagoo, DooPro, Okitel and so on and on Chinese brands that nobody knows from Europe or from USA.

But instead they have low end budget hardware on even high end devices and then ask premium price for them thanks to the all known best brand Nokia while they are no Nokia anymore that dont do nothing. Just buy license for android and make somewhat decent app for camera and order a bit more quality material on there phones that is questionable to. Plastic is always plastic and metal does not make it more quality. There are other phones in the market that have metal body but some who knows brand name on them. At least they dont try to be something that was good decade ago. They even give you case and screen protection film with there device's and there price with better hardware is still lower then any class of Nokia.

This talk comes out from someone that use to be a fanboy of Nokia. But i am not blinded by old good brand name anymore to buy c**p with high price

Anonymous, 12 Jan 2018Says "Expert" who tried to comforting himself lolActually, no where I referred to myself as an expert, however since you came to troll my honest comment. I will mention that DxO mark and it's programmers have no monopoly on physics and optics performance interpretation. Second thing is despite I don't like to mention I have both past as pro photographer, and background in import and sales of the most glorious photo equipment makers. It happens to be also I have academic education in the dry physical optical aspects of photography. I never claimed this camera to be what it is not. On the other hand my main interest and photographic needs of its set up are from the front "Selfie" camera. Now that one is the same lens and sensor as the main but lacks OIS. And the dual camera effects. It is by far the best selfie camera in the cellphone market. It would be perfect if it had no tonal flash. The MP count is not as important as the final result and usability as in print or on display. Sadly most makers and top scoring phones on DxO don't even offer autofocus on their front cameras that makes hot names offerings almost useless. Some as One Plus 5t aren't even capable of taking sharp selfies. DxO mark scores in the field of DSLR sensors are questionable for a long time. It is not the only benchmarking solution offered. People tend to ignore that camera makers are also lens makers and calibrate their cameras to perform with their premium offerings. It is different than evaluating film cameras and lenses just by measuring lppm with a microscopic detail and basing a rating by noise and d range performance most of it invisible to the eye. Not to mention the screen resolutions. I at least work with 4K screen set ups which only start showing limits of sensors of this size. 99.8% of phones don't even have 4K. Not to mention home display screens. On which the mighty most of phone captured images are viewed. There are many, mostly, parameters which are more important than those used for this criticism and DxO mark sadly has lost the trust of at least of 50% of the DSLR prosimer community, I guess bringing it's blend of science and bias into the cellphone camera market has much better economic value specially since the DSLR market is on steep decline and small point and shot camera nische was replaced by phones. I also assure you that in year or two this Nokia will still have some value due to its selfie shooter while most of the competition offerings except the few Sony front after offerings will have no value at all. Remember the best camera is the one you have with you. And if you need detailed results from a front camera and autofocus and a sd835 in one device the Nokia 8 is probably the best compromise. As for other api's yes, software is an issue which HMD can solve. Time will tell if they will try. In the mean while I will keep shooting models with my Canon and Sony DSLRs and film with my Nikon and Mamiya and rolleiflexes and studio with my Sinar linhofs on which I have mostly Zeiss and Schneider lenses. You on the other hand can keep reading DxO rankings and post one sentence mocking trolling comments. "Expert".

Even the 2016 Xperia E5 , a low end, has the same sensor of Nokia 8.
It is a sensor made to be used as rear cam of mid ranges.
                  A sensor from early 2015.

I am not surprised by low score.

But yes, premium build, best SOC (snapdragon 835), flawless UI, good battery life and awesome camera.
Oneplus is the fastest device among android devices, the speed is unique and oneplus got that reputation. The camera is decent enough to go against other flagship smartphones.
The build quality of onelpus devices never disapoint, the fingerprint reader is the fastest and the new face unlock feature is revolutionary.
Oneplus 5/5T is a proper flagship and still holds it's name as a flagship killer.

the king is a zombie. its not what it used to be and wont be as long as it uses android.

Nokias secret was symbian, but Symbian was (initially) not very touchscreen friendly and Nokia became VERY slow.
Even now HMD is slow. They launch a lot of phones but it takes time to arrive in many countries and stocks are always low.

So the king isnt what it used to be, but its still better than the garbage called samsung and oppo.

Btw, a Toyota might not be as good as Ferrari, but the moment you compare a Toyota with a Ferrari, the Ferrari loses.
Nokia, like Ferrari always tried to be all things to all people. Like Toyota, they had basic low end products, as well as luxury high end products.

Unlike Toyota however, Nokia was always compared to products double its price, and thats why its the King even when it loses.
I still remember early icrap fanbois comparing iphone with the Nokia 5800. Im sure the videos are still there on youtube

others brand whose pay more will have better place
like MI NOTE 3, because of xiaomi did not sell this model as they expected, they decide to put it in top 10 of DXO
MI6 have the camera of MI NOTE3 too
but MI6 is not in top 10

so DXO RAKING its completly FAKE

Company is new, don't have yet resources for proper phones, it will need a lot of time before HMD smartphones will compete with big dogs

At daylight both are about equal in terms of colour accuracy but the oneplus is sharper, presenting more detail. With less light with shadows the oneplus does it perfectly while the Nokia 8 struggles with HDR.
In night time the oneplus 5T just owns the Nokia 8 in almost every aspect, night time shots on the nokia 8 are really poor and blurred out and just too dark.
