Nokia 8 gets a poor DxOMark score

11 January 2018
The company's current flagship smartphone can't hold a candle to top scorers such as the Google Pixel 2, Apple iPhone X, and Huawei Mate 10 Pro.

Why would Dxo mark would put the legendary Lumia 808 or 1020 into a worse ranking?!!!! Seriously I think they are only looking for trends and whether the phones camera is hot or not. Look even if the Nokia 8 or Nokia 6 are worse ranking, people would say they are the best.

I...I can't tolerate them anymore!!!! My friends and I may write a complain letter to DXO.

There are lots of phones that didn't make in the tests so you cant say the best out of everything. And you cant deside that if gsmarena makes a test then it's the best quality test.

It's a review by one site and by one person. To get opinion on something you need test from at least 3 source cause everyone see different values on everything so one can like something and be a fan and don't have neutral reviews over something. And if you test only the most known brands then it's a different story.

The optics are good... Its the sensor thats useless. No amount of software processing is going to save an inferior sensor. I've said it once.. I'll say it again... Just put the Lumia 950 sensor into future Nokia 8's and 9's and half the battle is already won. Improve the image stabilization, the autofocus, a few teaks here and there with the processing pipleline and Nokia / HMD will have a winner. Alternatively they could try and license Sony's IMX 400 sensor - since I don't think its going to be appearing in any more Sony flagships - harness the sensors full imaging capabilities (something Sony has never managed to do) - and they'll have a class leader on their hands.

Reg. this news, I only wish to say that Nokia was given its death by Microsoft. Its long gone. The proud camera engineers are long gone, half the older staff has left, Symbian OS & Meego was killed, with stupid excuses (We the customers still purchased millions of units of Nokia 808 Pureview, with zero advertisements on part of the company. We never rejected Symbian.)
HMD don't have it in them to revive those days when phones were just smart, not oversmart like today's iPhones and Androids..

It can't perform as good as other flagships like Pixel with rather midrange tiny IMX258 sensor. 1.12 vs 1.4 micron pixels is quite a difference, especially for noise.
Good optics, Zeiss or Nokia logo can't save poor sensor.

Anonymous, 12 Jan 2018Nokia is HMD Global a Finnish company get your facts straight What does that matter ? There are lots of companies that are not from China or India but still have there devices made by Asian factories. Software wise we know that android is stock vanilla so on that part they dont do much to. Is it best to pay for a device that is made in Asia more cause the device brand will pay for there workers more for that said country rules and tax then buy a device from some Asian country company ?

Fact is that everything in there device is not made by Nokia. Only software for camera and little support for android updates is done by Nokia and thats about it.

No phone can be called a cameraphone , if it doesn't have a MANUAL MODE!.
And to add pixel offers nothing besides camera.
And it's build quality is a subpar. To call just mediocre, would be an overstatement. It's worse than that.

So I would still go for Nokia 8 over Pixel.

I dont even know that DxO site or what ever it does. And i do a lot of research before i buy anything.

And i dont see gsmarena be neutral on it's reviews either.

New Nokia's need to be out for few years to deside how the quality is. Everyone can take old good brand name and there for have a fan base already so it's easy to start up and as a old good quality brand everyone have trust on you. While if they would of gone the rout of new brand then they would have a lot more hard time cause nobody know the brand so the quality of the brand first needs to prove it self.

AnonD-538705, 12 Jan 2018Seriously, does anybody truly trust dxo mark? Just because ... moreEveryone in here jumps in bandwagons, including you with the hype that Nokia is the best quality phone with the best quality hardware. Thats all bs. And if someone do a realistic review of something then all of the fan base cry out that it's a fake review cause it does not have the favored results on tests.

But everyone trust Nokia blindly. Even i did as of most of my phones have been only Nokia.
Now with the new start up company Nokia i dont see them so special anymore. With windows phones they already were outdated hardware but had windows on them and were special still and different then any other brand that used android on there devices.

My last Nokia was Lumia 830 and it had decent hardware for it's time with SD400 CPU with 1GB ram and 16GB rom. But for a 8 series it already had low specs for the price.

I have a Leagoo Kiicaa Mix as a noname brand phone now and by holding it on my hand it does not feel any worse in quality then my Lumia 830. Yeah that Leagoo is in plastic but seriously Nokia was always made out of plastic and everyone tough it was the best quality and durable. Now everything that does not have metal frame is a bs phone without any quality.

New Nokia is trusted cause of the old brand name in it's new shoes. I dont think they would sell there devices well if there Brand would be HMD that nobody knows about. Itäs like Oneplus when it first come out everyone didnt trust it and didnt see it from the start that it's something good with quality. Now that it has proved it's self everyone understand the quality of them. New Nokias need same treatments and need to look them like a new unknown brand.

If Nokia is so good brand of quality then why they needed to start selling there phone first in big markets like India and China ? And then sell it globally ?
