WDale, 12 Jan 2018It's not about making less money. It's about losing less mo... moreNo. They are cutting to many corners, over charging too much for it, and making too many poor decisions. And it's hurting them. Not enough quality control either or support.
And now they are making what could be another bad move unless they do it right. Which is doubtful.
They need to start doing better

WDale, 12 Jan 2018It's not about making less money. It's about losing less mo... moreThis decision is more based on their financial crisis. The rest of the comments here keep throwing nonsense like LG given up, or they got nothing better or innovative to show. Its not like that guys. Money problem is a real concern for LG now. To survive they must take this drastic step. If money werent the problem you can bet they will be rushing LG G7(whatever it intended name is) as soon as possible even if there is nothing innovative about it.

Currently their Mobile division isn't making money, the amount of sold phones can't cover the cost of manufacturing, research and development involved. ;)

Anonymous, 12 Jan 2018Very sensible thing to do as there is very little to offer ... morethat's the right thing to do. instead of producing a hoard of mobiles with similar spec like J7, J7 max, J7 pro, Ju nxt, J7 prime and what not, should come up with one phone for each price tier with specs that people really need, like the Xperia XA2 ultra, and that product should get a long after sales support with frequent (OS) updates like how the new nokias are going to get android P this year. that's the true wish of an android fan, duh

He just means they’ll be 3-4 months late to the latest SoC party unlike the Golden days of the 2X, 4X HD and especially the actually great G2.
Expect a G7 around the time of the Oneplus 6 launch.

Weird G5 with useless mods...underpowered G6 with Snapdragon 821...LG needed a change after so many mistakes... Only V30 is quite awesome with its 10-bit sensor and Log capabilities, found only in expensive camera, but the best video recording in a can't make it a bit by itself.

LG just have to close all mobile phone production. Anyway last 4 years they do just overpriced crap.

Sounds like an excuse for their inability to compete against the likes of Samsung and Huawei but I've come to expect nothing great from LG so there's no surprise there.

Was high time for LG to wrap up! It's V30 has shown that it was a challenge to keep up supply chain until, it became obsolete. 845 and bezeless were both lacking, and no use release G7 or V40 with out real demand. Life will be Good without smartphone sales.

Very sensible thing to do as there is very little to offer in new smart phones these days that your phone you have now cant already do.
If your going to milk your phones you have out now for all their worth can you release the Q8 in the UK please thankyou.

In my opinion, maybe it's because innovative technology doesn't come as soon and as many as it used to. If they release a smartphone on a regular basis, it would just look as though it's a small up upgrade compared to it's predecessor. Current smartphones are already perfect for daily use. Even midrangers can compete with flagships nowadays. So, for a low profit company like LG's mobile division, this is really a smart move, for the short term.

But, we have to remember that smartphones are the only piece of tech that the majority of people use regularly on a daily basis. Our life depends on our smartphone, literally. Hence why people upgrade their phone regularly. And people don't upgrade their phone at the same rate as everyone else. I might upgrade to a new phone this year, others might upgrade theirs next year. So a regular smartphone launch schedule is needed to maintain a loyal audience. If LG take too long to launch a new smartphone, then people would just move on to another brand.
