Ahh, now I know the reason why Sony still stick with their LCD Display since Xperia Z2 and did not move to OLED because they need OLED Display Engineer. Lol

Slow Sony, 13 Jan 2018And when would Sony implement an under-screen fingerprint-r... moreSaid the one who forget that sony employ ip certification first in mainstream flagship (even midranger), create more modern and versatile camera ui back in Z1 day where other manufacturers have messy ui, already using 4K screen
No brand is late, the just progress in different flow, not using trending stuff doesn't mean they slow but because they don't want to, not every company need to feature the same thing, by that it will be pointless to have different brand in the first place
I still remember people talk 4K is unnecessary but when there's rumor about the note 7 gonna feature 4K display, people be like "it will be better"

Anonymous, 14 Jan 2018We cant deny Sony did great with Bravia A1E. But for phon... moreOled at its present state IS not good for mobile, nor desktop, due to its shortcommings.

It doesnt stand well with static visuals at all, and OS UI, apps, all are about static visuals that cause serious burn in sideffects on oled tech.
Short Lifespan is another problem, but avoidable in mobile due to peoples habit to change phone every 2-3 years.
But monitors people buy for longer usage periods, it turned out indeed worse than lcds, so production of oled monitors stopped, due to people realising this stuff the hard way.
TVs are different, no such static visuals that cause burnins in short terms, but lifespan is too short for TVs too, had that experience with my bro TV, never will buy oled TV again, hard earned money went to "buyers remorse" in some 3.5 years of using it.

So yea, maybe Sony starts using Oled on mobile ONLY if they found a way to avoid all these shortcommings...

Maybe patented DVS (Dynamic vibration System) has sth to do with all this.

[deleted post]There's still a number of people who buy Sony phones. Might not be as strong as Apple and Samsung but still leads than LG and HTC as well as Asus but on par with Huawei.

But for phones it is different situation.

Oled has better contrast and more power saving due pixels are off in black areas.
But you cant use full brightness all the time because it will kill pixels faster.
And mobile screens are not on pair with tv screens.

Look at oled tvs, they barely reach 700 nits. Some newer lcd tvs pass 2000 easily.

Sony is not anyone that uses OLED just for the sake of using it.
They check the quality first before releasing them, which is why almost no Xperia device had major failures or issues related to overall hardware quality.

Perhaps I'd rather wait for them to give me a polished product instead of giving it to me so early with the problems that is taking them too long to fix.

Sony has to do more effort on Batteries, their phones would need batteries with more than 4000 or 5000 MA PER SECOND.
It will enable them to control more market.

And when would Sony implement an under-screen fingerprint-reader?
Sony would again lag a year or two after the competition...
They won't feature such a reader in 2018.

If Sony started to get interested in OLED engineers only now, it means that an OLED product would be ready only a few years from now!
                            Not at this MWC!

                              Right there, under nbr 5:
OLED improvement....essential and most necessary, if going to oled.

Just dont make it a bad one as present ones Sony, and all is good.
And give a lcd flag too, for choice.
                                We used to quality stuff...

Btw, oled is in no way a selling point over lcd, ask Htc and some other for an opinion...

This doesn't make sense at all. Doesn't Sony own some big Japanese ips screen manufacturer, whatsitsname jdi or something? They dont even make their own oled panels for their tv screens.

Anyways if this is true then there's no hope for a 120hz screen for future Xperias since current oled panels can't support such high frame refresh rate.

Supplier is LG , not Samsung.

Sony wont choose pentile over RGB.
