FinnishInquisition, 23 Jan 2018Yes, it was a problem before we had USB-C, as USB-C was a p... moreThat's kind of line saying old cars were problem because they aren't as good as new cars or old motors were a problem. They were not a problem, anything can be improved on and USB C will be replaced eventually so your logic is that USB C is just another problem. In the end 3.5mm jacks have their place and uses, times will move on but Apple did it at a point where the industry clearly didn't want to move on (hence why others kept including the 3.5mm jack for a long time). Apple jumping the gun annoyed a lot of people and they had to adapt (when in a closed eco system it's adapt or move, no choice) but later confused people with their own choices of when they included it in other devices too.
In the end Apple saw the tide changing, others saw it too but it's just whether Apple did it at the right time or not and clearly it doesn't seem like they did if people are still here having this debate even now.

Why should it be removed? Wireless and wired headphones serve very different markets at the moment. Wireless for those who like the "convenience" of going wire free. Wired for those who demand high quality and uninterruptable audio.
Until the day wireless is _that_ stable (try using those wireless earphones in a crowded space with 2.4GHz signals everywhere), the market for wired earphones will continue to exist.

AnonD-655518, 23 Jan 2018Rubbish, you mean to say we have come through all these dec... moreYes, it was a problem before we had USB-C, as USB-C was a prerequisite for being able to do everything via a single port. So yes, it was a problem in 1993, 2003, and 2013.
Heck, the 3.5 mm port didn't even become standard in phones and portable devices until 2009. And even then there was no standard on whether to use the AHJ or OMTP type. So yes, it was a problem to use the 3.5 mm port in all years prior to 2009. And in 2013 we still didn't have USB-C. Only now has USB-C started becoming the de-facto standard in all devices, meaning we can finally move on to a true universal port.
You seem to think the 3.5 mm port in phones is some sort of unchangeable technology, when in fact it's rather recent and not necessarily the best option.
Oh, and by the way, Apple didn't start this change. They just popularized it. Just like how they popularized the phasing out of the floppy disk drives. They think ahead of people like you. They have piles of market research that backs up their decisions.

Was it a problem in 1983? was it a problem in 1993? was it a problem in 2003? was it a problem in 2013? NO IT WAS NOT .It just so happen to become a major problem in September 2017 when apple decided.

HTC U11 https://www.gs... moreThe fewer ingress points you need to secure, the safer the waterproofing can be. Especially over time.
Also I hope you know the IP68 rating is rather nondescript. It's just anything beyond IP67, to be defined by the manufacturer. Most seem to settle for IP67, instead of trying to trick consumers that "IT'S ONE NUMBER BETTER!".

Post scientific sources or sit in a corner with a tin-foil hat. You can't have a serious conversation while wearing that tin-foil and have zero sources for outrageous claims.

Thesis86, 23 Jan 2018So? Many manufacturers have figured out how to have a 3.5mm... moreUSB-C isn't a locked ecosystem. It's an open standard.
And the issue isn't whether it's possible, if it's necessary to have two ports on a phone when one port can do all things. It's a waste of space for most phones. There will still be phones produced with 3.5 mm ports, so if the 3.5 mm port is important to you, buy a phone with that. For everyone else there are phones without it that use the limited space more efficiently.
Oh, and you don't need dongles unless you want to use 3.5 mm headphones. You can just get USB-C headphones.

FinnishInquisition, 23 Jan 2018Not really, friend. It's an incidental report with no proof... moreYou do realize that if it's true and radio waves cause cancer and other tumors, NOBODY will back that up due to the HUGE interest in the technology and the TRILLIONS of dollars made by it. Not to mention the medical ones.
The major companies pay people with degrees (that you would believe) to keep their mouths shut and discredit everything about it.
Yeah, this is the realm of conspiracy theories because nobody has the guts to say it. We've all seen movies based on real facts where stuff like this is covered and hidden from the world. But, years later they will eventually pop. Sadly, when it's too late.
All the car manufacturers are lying about the emissions, what makes you think other companies don't. It's a dirty word we're living in..

FinnishInquisition, 22 Jan 2018Laptops and tablets don't have the same space constraints a... moreSo? Many manufacturers have figured out how to have a 3.5mm jack and give everyone water/dust resistance. There's really no excuse not to have it on a modern device, except to lock people into ecosystems, which benefits the company, not the consumer. I'm not loyal to any company. I go for what I want. Since I still value a headphone jack, I'm more than likely going to get a phone with a headphone jack. The dongle is trash. All USB-C is not created equal. BT is great for the gym, bad for everything else.

HTC U11 https://www.gs... moreWeren't some Sony-models first sold as waterproof and later it was found out by users that wasn't really true, and so they stopped marketing them as such.. Shady stuff. M4 Aqua was at least sold to as waterproof, later that was found out to be not true. Link below shows that many other models were sold as false waterproof phones too.

Sony Z5 (released in 2015) already had IP68 and 3.5 mm jack. So clearly, the others are lying.
Now I just hope Sony won't remove the 3.5 mm jack as this article predicts..

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2018The copying (especially the phones and trend in 2017) is mo... moreYep. Even when it's against their own interests. It's like someone is dictating them to make their phones certain way and they have no choice but to obey. Lack of 3.5mm jack is hurting anyone, more or less, except for Apple. And 18:9 aspect ratio is hated by at least 50% of users, so why not more diversity and why is nobody trying to win all the people who hate the current trends? It's not like manufacturers like HTC or Sony will become Apple, so since they are failing anyway, why not at least try to be firrent than the others and win customers in the process?
That's pure insanity. Unless there's indeed more than it meets the eye.

Alien , 22 Jan 2018https://www.theguardian.com/science/sifting-the-evidence/20... moreNot really, friend. It's an incidental report with no proof that radio waves had anything with it to do. The same goes for any ambiguous study that think they may have found a link: its inconsistent and it doesn't hold up against the large body of research done on the topic.
