The Scientist Pigeon, 21 Jan 2018There are two ways to make less heat by SoC. 1- Use Dual... moreWhy not optimize what we already have instead of having two SoCs on one system. That will be a battery hog. If that happens, get ready to complain about battery life which is already something everyone complaints about. The current algorithms on which the cores work are not stable enough, and also not at all optimized for even the basic task which causes all the cores to run at full speed. Better synchronisation of CPU cores and more than adequate, I mean total optimization of CPU Cores is yet to be seen. What I meant to say is the CPU cores should be more than flexible and have their own intelligence, so that a basic task like launching an app or clicking a photo won't cause all the cores to run at once. Apps should use cores according to their requirement.. Intelligently and efficiently. As a perfectionist myself, this is what I want to see or do.

Anonymous, 21 Jan 2018Holy nightmare.. It's really good idea! BTW I'm not GSMTraf... moremind controlled smartphone with those chips will be best!

There are two ways to make less heat by SoC.

1- Use Dual (Separate) SoCs: Each of which contain some parts to handle. Both of them include Multi Cluster CPU Cores and GPU Core(s).

2-Make SoC decentralized: separate the Package across the board and connect them via light transfer method, in order not to lose the velocity which is inside a SoC.

All components inside a package, need space and they can do better their tasks when they other on the other base.
      The Concept is as Follow:
      Either
A SoC for Multimedia & A SoC for Heavy graphics
      or,
      A SoC for Communications & A SoC for Photo/Videography
      then,
A SoC for Productivity & A SoC for Casual activity
      then,
A SoC for Simple tasks & A SoC for Complicated tasks
      then,
A SoC always on even when the phone is turned off (Good for AI and Digital Assistant) & A SoC turns on when needed for heavy tasks.

ISP and Multimedia components can be inside an 8-Core A55 Package & more GPU can sit inside an 8-Core A75 Package.
Most of the time, the 8-Core A75 is in Idle mode and this makes the phone overall top performer and extreme power saver.

In those two possible ways, there are controllers which can synchronize the two SoCs well as power consumption.

Useless poll. SoC needs to be an allrounder, so all the poll options matter. Voted blank. Meltdown & Spectre bugs I think is due to design issues, upcoming SoCs should fix these two notorious bugs without affecting performance. ARM better use DynamIQ or a new core designs in 2018. Enough of big.Little. It's been around since 2011. AI is in its embryonic state, especially in smartphone SoCs. The current AI that we got can't even do basic scheduled stuff like opening the browser at a certain time, visiting a predefined website, login using preset credentials, checking a particular product and clicking on Cash On Delivery as a payment mode and get the online shopping done. As for NPUs, national and international spying agencies will be more than happy for the tech to develop at a rapid pace so that out reaches the consumers fast. If it's gonna suggest me personalized texting then I'm already done with it.

I think all of them are important for a SoC (well, except AI or NPU or whatever maybe) because SoC is nothing without at least one of them, so why the need for this poll?

hex, 21 Jan 2018high performance & power efficiency are 2 mutually excl... moreYou misinterpret the meaning of power efficiency. You think it means "frugal power consumption" but no. It means that a very high percentage of the energy used in a SoC is actually used and not wasted in unwanted results like heat. You can get both, simply with smarter solutions. For instance, the power efficiency of a halogen bulbs is very low because it makes a lot of heat. Using LEDs, we get a long lasting, brighter light tjat only uses a fraction of the energy of a halogen bulb

Steadily performance. Not a 5 minute beast then throttle or secretly reduced speed after new devices release.

All of the improvement yet 1 day batterlife looks like an mythical thing for manufacture to make (I'm talking about those so called flagship soc).

AnonD-558092, 21 Jan 20185 people voted that (blank) makes a great chipset. Wow. ... moreYes, most of smartphone SoC problem is actually optimization and bandwidth limitation. This lead to half-assed GPU that perform "okay"-ish. Can easily by fixed by integrating HBM or eDRAM but that could make the SoC size too big, as it'll need better controller and VRM, and draws too much power, neglecting the reason to use of ARM's CPU design in the first place.

Arch restructure alone isn't enough. Google need to force Project Treble, and when user can update the driver manually, hopefully OEMs will start to optimize their shit of a customized OS

The IR blaster doesn't know if it's integrated in soc guy gave me a nice chuckle but either way I'm with him because the IR blaster is very useful and I use it frequently.

However what I deem necessary for a SOC is FULLY OPTIMIZED SOC SOFTWARE, after that everything will run nice & smooth.

A chipset that’s efficient in the battery usage department and one that can stay stable under load, I don’t use resource intensive apps I don’t think but it would be good to know your chipset can switch smoothly and efficiently between core types, heavy usage and general purpose.

The only features I like are in most if not all devices these days

high performance & power efficiency are 2 mutually exclusive ends. finding the best possible middle ground is the job of a SoC creator.
