And Red aren't exactly a start-up, they've been going a while now producing some pretty serious cameras, designing their own sensors, and pretty awesome ones at that, and designing their own ASICS, hell they could have designed their own SoC, but probably thought a SD835x would be sufficient for the basic 'phone
Modularity is at the heart of the whole Red ethos, check them out, so modularity in a "Phone" is second nature to them. The real computing grunt (Needed for producing the .r3d files) will come from the bits you add on.
Myself, I can't wait.

No sd card support and don't need it. I do backups one or twice a month. So I think you aren't using the phone as camera, but to download a lot of crap on it.

Nothing. For better waterp... moreNo ecosystem? Oh, because you don't have to pay for bluetooth headphones. And no, omitting the jack wouldn't get you more battery or more space. Mainstream phones aren't even thin enough to have good reason to exclude it anyway.
One last point, there are IP67/68 phones with headphone jacks.

I agree that this phone focus on camera but to use SD835 is not very good. Also, while modular phones sound fantastic, reality is that not that many modules are being developed. Ear-phone jack is a must for audiophiles. Razer phone is a joke. Just because it is a company that makes gaming peripherals does not mean that their phone is a real gaming phone. Just look at the failure gaming laptop and countless useless gaming keyboards they produced. This phone is my opinion is just like iPhone. Selling more of brand and less of function.
Of course, I could be wrong since the phone is not released yet.

You need to correct your article.
The chipset is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835x processor. The 'x' suggests a custom version of the 835.

Sound like another Esential phone. Somehow I have a feeling it will sell half of what Esential did, insane price, some scratchy holographic screen???? No one ever heard about it, to good to be true

The people buying this are serious cinema pros. A lot don't give two hoots for the 'phone itself but for the ability to monitor and control their cine gear. for them, $1600 is chicken feed, when Red cameras can go for upward of $30k, a lot have placed multiple orders for just that reason
Me, I'm not a cine pro but I've pre-ordered an Aluminium version for its go-anywhere better-than-smartphone video abilities, plus I may just stump up for the cinema quality camera module when it comes out.
