Samsung will have to bring out the A8+ like phones near to 20K...

People are overfed with your ugly pricing. Thus your sales.
having SD845 and nothing extra in Samsung S9 wont help you either.
A8 or A8+ cost as a flagship despite its a mediocre phone with nothing extra from previous models appart of a slightly better CPU GPU and Camera. I am not believe anyone would pay this.
The other thing i have to say. Xiaomi doesnt needs any advertising at all and their phones sells like a hot cake. Samsung spend billions worldwide on advertising promo and other this to raise their sales at cost of much more expensive devices not worth its price.
Soon noone will buy Samsung because its like to have a very nice cake which tastes like pickled gherkins :-)

The mobile division did worse this year compared to last year, 2.23 billion USD vs last years 2.35. Again, last year they hade the Note 7 issue so one would expect them to do alot better this year.

Samsung should just concentrate on Note, S & A series, abandoned those low end On & J series, let those China manufacturer blood bath on low & mid low market.

Anonymous, 31 Jan 2018Highend has higher margins, but low end has higher volume. ... moreOf course but that is not the case here, unless Samsung sold dramatically fewer units in Q4 this year compared to last year they should have made more profit if the high-end units did better than last year.

So, people finally figured it out. It doesnt worth paying tens or hundreds of dollars more, fot the same specs and sometimes even better build quality than an expensive phone

I also expect the S9 to sell better than the S8. My reasons are:-

                          1. There was no substancial difference between S7 and S8. S8 brought in essence only a better display and chipset, that's it. Even video recording modes were the same, and cameras were similar in specs, (they were of different make though).

                          2. S8 launched at a time when there was market depression in India (due to GST & Demonetisation). Now, the market in on recovery.

                          3. S9/ S9+ brings a whole lot of new features to S series like dual camera, new slow motion & other video recording modes, variable aperture (!), audio enhancements, an advanced iris+face recognition, etc, etc.

A lot of Samsung's low end market has gone to Chinese manufacturers, but these Chinese manufacturers stand no chance in flagship segment, in terms of quality.
For example, Mi6 still stands with a f2.0 lens, and 720p@120fps which even a Redmi Note 4 matches nice and easy.

This actually shows how badly Samsung mobile business is doing and like the direction been down many years already, same will going to happen in future too

Apple and huawei is stealing high end sales and huawei is stealing mid and low end sales.

Good. Now get rid of the low end market and focus your engineers on the hardware and especially the software.

Strong high-end sales but still lower profit for the mobile division than last years Q4 with the Note 7 incident. How does that add up? It's no secret that the profit is in the high-end.

I think the S9 won't sell as well as the S8, however if it really does come with the Super Slow Motion and the variable aperture, and if the next Exynos is as good as they said it would be at the launch event, then maybe just maybe...
