[deleted post]In my opinion, its just perfect! More active screen area, in a small package, just what I've been looking for. Those gigantic screens of today are too much for me. I want just a small, beautifull, fast device with a good camera, and this one will be my next love, if it come true, for sure...

There is an indication that this could end up as a mid range compact such as XA2 Compact or something.

        This is indeed interesting.

Wish sony will stick to the 4.7" screen and trim the besels. The reason we use a compact phone is ease of use and pocketability. Hope this will have a smaller body. Maybe a smaller version of s8 with xperia feel to it.

Ghostwolf, 01 Feb 2018Just what everyone wants, another copycat of a useless tren... more2:1 is probably not all that useless. One can have on screen "buttons" without it overlaying the content. But I certainly would rather stick to 16:9.

I guess this implementation would still be usable in one hand for some people, unlike larger phones such as s8.

Both my z3c and z5c have succumbed to cracked screens, so using an s7 edge... which too has front and back cracked, but fully functional. Not sure is this has to with lcd vs oled, but do wish sony change over. Flad they have ditched 2.5d on favour of gorrilla glass in recent devices.

Lolwut? Calling this bezellessness is a bit too harsh :D Simple sketch reveals huge bezels everywhere..

User, 01 Feb 2018sdm640/4gbram/64gbrom is needed.SD640? For XZ2 Compact? That will ruin the whole idea of a compact flagship.

Mirkran, 01 Feb 2018Well, 2:1 ratio is fairly new, so it's natural for people t... moreIt is not about some change and commonplace, it is about options.
                      Same with TVs...
People could have grown accustomed to wide screen TVs introduced some 20 years ago, but they didnt,
wide screen TVs are a minority today, as people realised its not practical for TV standard use.
It was just a trend, that didnt take over.

Same will happen with phones... The trend will pass over time, and makers will offer 16:9 again, as elongated aspect screens just have no real benefit over standard 16:9 aspect in personal use, especially on small mobile screens.

Anonymous, 01 Feb 2018If they had fitted in smaller body, then I would say , yes.... moreWell said. People think wider aspect ratio means less bezels, when this not always is true (i.e. Galaxy A8)

Well, 2:1 ratio is fairly new, so it's natural for people to protest, because we were conditioned to fear change. But the same happened with touchscreens, cameras, fingerprint reader and people grew accustomed to it. And, as more content is available for 2:1 screens, this will be commonplace in no time.

If they had fitted in smaller body, then I would say , yes.

But phone got larger, so they just increase screen length, while keeping width almost the same (4.6 " 16:9 screen is a hair wider than 5" 18:9 5" screen). Something , like apple did with 4s to 5 transition.

So, Sony is simply embracing wider aspect ratio, not bezellessness.

Hate the 18:9 ratio.. That's why I didn't buy the s8 cause it look like a remote to me but now all other are following it. I thought Sony is unique and that's why I love it but be I don't know whether I'll buy their flagship or not..

Just what everyone wants, another copycat of a useless trend.

18:9? Really? Call it what it is, 2:1. Looked at a few phones with this screen ratio and you know something, they are basically useless. Constantly having to scroll up and down to read anything more than a few words per line.

Guess this form factor is for the Twitter twit generation, with attention spans measured in nano seconds.

Hopefully Sony DOES NOT follow this trend. No need for more of the same.
