Anonymous, 02 Feb 2018Nokia used to make good quality phone from Finland. Not too... moreReally? Now that's funny. Because I once had Nokia devices. Recent one is Lumia 520, which still released by Nokia (before Microsoft acquisition). And long before that, was Nokia 5320 (Symbian S60v5, touch based). Those two phone has similarity. Guess what? It has label on their back cover which stating, "Made in China". That was the old Nokia. Both are before and after Elop take over their throne.

I might be an a...h... but what i am can change if i want to. But what is youre excuse, after working 20 year, as you claim, and having no ideea about work, developement and general , normal, very clearly to see manufacturing processes of everything made on this planet?

        Good job,Nokia...
Since LG,HTC and other big guns are going down,it`s time for good ol` Nokia to shine...keep up the good work,guys...

AnonD-674280, 02 Feb 2018Thats funny when it's old good brand name. When it's someth... moreLol are you serious?

First of all, not EVERYTHING in China means it's bad quality. When producing in China, you actually decide on the level of quality.

Second of all, those brand names you listed, don't manufacture with FOXCONN, the work with other manufacturers. FOXCONN has a good reputation of developing quality products such as, iPhones and Xbox. Both those products have not only proven to be solid hardware but also stand the test of time. Nokia/HMD, are using FOXCONN to develop their devices and so far tests of those devices, have also shown they are well built.

The other difference between the companies you listed and companies such as Nokia, Apple and Microsoft, is that those are big names who have experience in this field and know the quality they need. They also follow international standards and have a MUCH bigger reputation to worry about than all the companies you listed put together. So in short, neither, Nokia nor Apple or Microsoft, would produce their devices in China if their devices were going to be cheaply manufactured.

Neither of those companies, chose to manufacture with other Chinese manufacturers and the reason for that, is FOXCONN has a proven reputation for all their needs.

Lastly, they won the 2017 most durable device award https://youtu.be/Uvh3v1BkJ-A

Only thing i learned is that your an a**h*** and thats about it. No respect for you what so ever. AnonD-674280, 02 Feb 2018Thats funny when it's old good brand name. When it's someth... moreYou meight, have no idea how engineering works. Apparently, you think that all you need to do is to go to foxcon, and stample a name. How childisch can some people be. I bet you never workt. You cannot compare a company with more then 30 years of mobile experience and innovation with a copycat company in the likes of xiaomi and whatever other crapp. A phone is not just a case. It is actually planed, workt on, developed, goes through 3000 processes before it even get's to the end: the manufacturing process. Foxcon assambles devices, and that is about all. Samesung makes screens, Qualcom makes cpus and other chips. Ifineon, or corsair or whatever other ram manufaturer, makes the RAM. Corning makes the glass, sony manufacures the camera (not in every case). Yeah kid, that is in every mobile, not just nokia. Even the crapp you hold. So where is the catch? Well besides ram and cpu which are pretty much standard, the devices are Engineered by Nokia. They decide what goes where, bow to be manufacured and what secrets they hold. They work ther maginc on BIOS and mainboard, software and antenas microphones and so on. Now that you learned something, i hope you won't have the audacity to compare nokia Engineers with some contrefit chinese brands again.

Nokia is a legend and it has made a standpoint in every persun heart the innovation the authencity the robust build althought the contract with microsoft was a downfall of legacy yet it stood back more strong.
But one fact is that the competitive market is a hard reality to face and nokia is diverting away from what it stands for.
The nokia models launched are all missing something that we had seen during the 90s, the ptice range was also a tough call for what we see in a high end points sane goes for budget range it will be bdtter for nokia to brinGthat vibe of uniqueness or better take a final rest in history.

The Nokia 5 and 3 fair good but the Nokia 8 sale was an utter fail, selling only at 20000.

This year, Nokia must to strategize and strengthen their market share more to the global markets for it's flagship phones and mid-range phones.

The article states "New Nokias don't seem to do well in China.", yet the source says nothing of the sort.

In fact, the Nokia 6 2018 reached 280 000 pre-sales registrations, and sold out in a matter of minutes at the major retailers. That's some 3x better sales performance than the Nokia 6 2017.

Anonymous, 03 Feb 2018U can believe it or don't, like it or don't.. IT'S NOT REA... moreSure. That is correct. That is because HMD is taking the responsibility. Not real Nokia doesnt mean HMD couldnt make great devices like Nokia was.

I think Nokia licensing their brand and not developing the devices directly is because they dont want their stock price to go even lower. We all know Nokia (whole Nokia) that is going down just because of its Device and Service (one that produce phone) alone.

The nokia brand remains to be a bearer of quality, much like hkwllow blackberry to some extent still retains the security moniker. Their lineup is pretty awesome, although they're just late to the party so have giants as their competition.
