Dont go by reports. Yeah the reports seems to be rite at this point of time but the windows 7.5 seems to be much more promising OS at this point of time. Nokia has really got the much better hardware compared to APPLE and samsung with zeiss lens configurations.. This wil surely change the market scenario in just few months. TRust microsoft..

It was predicted that had they not changed something back in 1997 that within a few months they would have collapsed. They are proof that YES a company can rebound from hard times. Apple came from being a laughing stock to one of the hottest companies in the world!!! If I'm not mistaken... Chrysler did the same thing in the early 80's. They were in some serious trouble and soon came back to profitability.
Yes, once a glass is broken you can't fix it... but that doesn't apply here.

The only reason why people buy more smartphone is that there are no decent "normal" phones out there anymore so people are forced to buy smartphones. For using facebook you dont need samrtphone as any handset can do it. Belive me i sell loads of phones every day..

Look like everybody except Nokia can see that! All the surveys and forecasts predict that Android and IOS will continue to grow and expand! So your belief in Windows is totally unfounded since this OS has proved time and time again that it isn't able to occupy a sygnifican place in the market and there is no indication it will do so in the future! Nokia needs innovation and fresh ideas but this alliance won't help them achieve their objectives!

It's just a ranking... the most important thing (still) is profiting. I guess Nokia made a lot of profit already since year 1865.

When you look at Android, you can clearly see the amount of vendors that are investing in the platform, yet for WP7, some of the main vendors tried but WP7 didn't made much appearance. Nokia made WP7 as their primary OS, so customers would clearly see the difference between which company is an Android or a WP7. My statement that you quoted still stands as from a customers POV there is a difference between Nokia and other companies. I didn't reach to such conclusion as you've stated and you've missed my point about Windows 8 where Microsoft shows their dedication towards the mobile segment. If they put this much effort, then they should put as much effort in pushing forward their product.

Ericsson was one of the biggest manufacturers of cellphones. Being the first one with a cellphone with a color screen and many other innovations, still they weren't able to make it on their own, needed to join with Sony.
Sony Ericsson just started to make money, thanks to Android and a huge success with phones like X10, X10 Mini and Mini Pro
Still they are not even visible on the chart.

again, what nokia needs to do is advertise and market its smartphones by placing them in public stores and cell phone providers. also, advertise them via television commercials.

Taking back your words? You clearly stated that in your opinion Nokia would be just another "dull droid manufacturer"! Have you reached the conclusion that having a good platform to build on and add your personal touches to make the phones different from others is the way to go?....Windows mobile is not a new platform...it's been around for a couple of years...! Despite that it has never managed to become a top platform despite the fact that all the upgraded windows versions found their way into mobile devices as well! Windows is faaaar behind other OS in terms of selles numbers on all continents! What arguments do you have to say that Windows will climb upwards when all the previous Windows versions failed make it as best sellers??? Secondly......you mentioned a key word...."trust"....All the indications point out that Nokia has started to lose consumer's confidence! Decreasing selles numbers and profit prove that Nokia are on a downroad spiral! Nokia is imbeded deeply in some countryes and loyalty to Nokia is stronger then that of Samsung,lg or others...but failures and modest succeses as well as the decision to continue on a path that most fans consider it to be wrong...that loyalty has been seriously eroded....As i've said Elop and his board made a mistake...a big mistake...but I do believe eigher further developing Meego and adopting Android, Nokia will be again what it once was!

I for one hopes Nokia stay in the game,even where it ranks now. The built quality ,battery , steel fraMe and not the Os is what attracts me. The now old E72 still serves me well since I work outdoors and out of town a lot. Don't know how sturdy Samsung, LG and HtC are but I doubt they are steel framed phones. Would love to give one a go and experience android first hand with its huge screens.But only if it can withstand the knocks of life outside the office.

I doubt most consumers would be able to buy an expensive smartphone that's SIM-free. I didn't say the article was wrong, I simply said shipment would not result to equal sales. Look at it this way, Samsung's share will be bottlenecked by HTC and any other Android vendors, and Apple's share will be bottlenecked due to the iPhone's high-price. Nokia covers from the low-end to the high-end phone segment, so even if they did badly on the high-end, their mid to lower tier phones ensures their top global position, despite their losses.

This is Microsoft we're talking about. They're filthy rich, I doubt they don't have the resources to put forward their WP7 OS to customers. And don't tell me WP7 will never catch up towards Android, because Windows 8 (a tablet-oriented OS) shows that Microsoft IS dedicated towards polishing their mobile segment and improving it, so why not WP7? I do understand how choosing WP7 as the primary will bring about criticism amongst the Nokians, but Nokia has been around for so long, I doubt the pseudo-dismissal of Symbian would deter someone from buying a Nokia because consumers have grown to trust the Nokia brand. Also, I never said say choosing a widely-used platform prevents innovation. Innovation depends on a person's idea, not it's origin. I do find the 3D effect to be a marketing niche though. Dual core should be credited towards LG since they started it and Nokia's ClearBlack display is on par with Samsung's SuperAMOLED.

How many retail stores does Nokia have? In Asia they have less than the amount that they have in Europe and yet all of Europe close down. For someone calling me "narrow minded" you sure only rely on your OPINIONS not FACTS. ROFL so now its sales to consumers? Guess what then? Nokia still loses, if they shipped less smart phones than Apple and Samsung that means they have less to sell than both companies and both companies still sold more. How many N8 has nokia sold? Too embarrassed to tell? How many E7? OH wait, nokia won't tell us because the numbers are so low. So again, you are ignorant my friend, funny how you "try" to break people's news when the article is in fact correct. So how many retail flagship stores is apple closing? Oh wait none, apple actually posted a profit, a huge one at that unlike Nokia posting losses.

Just look at Samsung...they added to their phones characteristics that make them stand out...the superamoled and 1ghz processor in i9000 and superamoled plus and dual core in Galaxy 2...or LG with Optimus 3D! The point is you can choose a succes platform and add certain characteristics to the handset that will make it special! That's innovation and an attention graber ! Just choose a good base and build on it!

How can you say that Nokia has to be different in this way? By announcing that it's choose Windows,Nokia has attracted attention! But the wrong kind, mostly criticism! I agree that innovation is important...but to focus on a platform that will never equal Android and is not innovation but a big mistake! It's you who's talkinp BS in some aspects! Maybe you haven't realised it but most Nokia fans do not agree with the company's new policies! Choosing this road will not bring Nokia enything good!

The way that you put it then yes it could be called sales, but the way I put it, retailers don't count as the consumers. And yes, I DO know how retails work, got it? Secondly, sure ''bud'', sure. Maybe you're from the ''western'' part of the world where Nokia retail stores are diminishing, but hearing from my friends in the Middle East up to where I am in Asia, Nokia stores are still thriving. Shows how much close-minded you are to the rest of the world. Next time, if you want to start an argument, refrain yourself from blatantly calling others ignorant or anything that could provoke the other party, it seriously doesn't show credibility on your part even if you knew what you're talking about.
