althouigh I respect Nokia's persistence in releasing experimental handsets like the N9, you'd be kidding yourself if you believe that MeeGo will bring Nokia back into the black.

Only WP7 and a continued solid feature phone range can do that. 1Ghz S40 is a start...

I'm so buying this phone. Its beautiful inside out, comes with better HTML 5 support than any other mobile and if N900 is something to go by, more stable than iPhone or Symbian.

It is a Linux phone people. A real linux phone. MeeGo is owned by Linux Foundation, not Nokia. Sadly this is something that most people just can't wrap their heads around.

If you understand anything about Linux, how about googling for Easy Debian. This is a total cult device.

great news :-) When it´s sold in Switzerland will at least support the German language pack ... but buying the device without operator subsidies and paying in swiss franc will kill me.

at the end of the day WP nokia phones will be released before N9, or in next week after N9 with Apple-like media coverage.

So i really wonder how come N9 is released at all? Apparently that was not-wanted child for Nokia.

meego will still have support, even though nokia wont be 100% behind it. it will stil have intel and many others supporting it.

It's not even funny anymore how some manufacturers *cough*Nokia*cough* pretend not to understand that promises of continued manufacturer support suffice for exactly nothing for an end-of-the-road platform, be it Symbian or MeeGo: these are supposed to be SMARTphones we are talking about, and beyond their immediate HW specs and SW appeal, those are made or broken by their apps.

Apple knows this perfectly. So does Google. Customers might get comforted by the idea of a few more years of support, but which developer will spend time and money on developing something for an end-of-life platform...? These days, pretty much any new app comes out for iPhone and Android, and that's it. People don't even bother with Symbian anymore, unless to update an older app - maybe.

So, supported or not, and as sad as it is, what do you think this is going to do to sales of a DOA platform...?

About no support or no other MeeGo devices? God knows better because if N9 is becomes craze in market Im sure the platform would be adopted by many many companies but yes it would happen only if the platform operates flawless. We cant say when humans change. And these mobile companies, they run behind money. If N9 becomes hit in market Im sure Samsung would be the first company to adopt and would try to copy everything like this device for market share.

Nokia is like Apple, stalwart in their decision and user restrictions, limiting themselves to a signature platform. Stubborn. But Apple has brand power and flawless execution. I'm saying that, and I wouldn't own an iPhone to save my own life. And Samsung has been right on the mark with their smartphones lately.

Don't agree with it? Don't like it? Here's a tissue. The results are out, and Apple and Samsung are IN!!!

Anonymous, 01 Aug 2011girda,you can bet on your mom, that at the time of the offi... morei had the Nokia N95, so what? you say you can't say about Nokia if you don't own it.
i owned a few & they were okay for the time being but, ever since N95, name the upgrades they offered, N900 bulky as hell, N97 looks ugly with the 2 touch buttons & the 1 diagonal home key, N8 focused on camera that's about it, nothing new on the table. so, didn't even bother upgrading.
Nokia had their share of time in the market but, now the only way they have been & going to go in the future (at least for the next couple of years) is straight downwards.
people (including you) keep saying "oh wait, Nokia will be back with this/that phone! & sink android/ios for good." i am yet to see that day...
been waiting for 4 years now...
                          didn't see a single sign...
so you can hail Nokia all you want, but, you can't stop it from sinking, hell Stephen Elop can't do shit, what would you or anyone else do? lol

What is the point in buying something that has no support?
I've never bought a Nokia, but when a competitor goes to the wire like this, it is bad for development and competition.
There is plenty of room for more OS and fresh ideas on the market. Lets hope that Web OS or Bada for example can develop better to give us consumers better choice. I've used Bada and it has excellent potential.....pity Samsung has put lead weights on it's feet!!!!

Hope so that MeGoo or Intel it's self will start to produce own MeGoo phones. Good luck for MeGoo!
