Of course mfg wants users to change their phones as soon as possible. But I personally think that it is a real waste of resources and also pollute the environment. One think, if batteries were made to last better, users will not change phones often. So, I think mfg tends to "make batteries weaker" so that batteries will deplete after 2 years.

Used to change every couple months. Now it's probably once or twice a year. Life priority of of reason. High end phones are getting more expensive reaching $1,000 or more. The most I ever paid was $850.

I have less incentive to upgrade especially because phone hardware are very good now, especially camera. No need to pay big money for small update in tech anymore. Secondly, many good quality midrange phones out there, no need to spend big money on the most expensive model.

Previously, quite often as phones weren't very good, but since I bought my Galaxy S6 Edge, while tempted, I've not seen anything that is significantly better.

Most flagships sport a screen that is a downgrade compared to the S6, so unless it sports a QHD OLED it doesn't get on my list.

A faster processor in theory would be better, but I don't notice much lag with my S6.

If Xiaomi put a flagship screen on the Mi Mix 2S I might be tempted, but they'll probably continue to use an LCD screen.

It all depends on carrier offerings. Three months ago they offered me an LG G6 for like 50 bucks.

                Exactly 2 years and 5 months ^_^
And i keep all my phones too so i can love the updates done over the years.

if you are an android user: below android 5 (maximum 2 years) , past android 5 (you could hold you phone for even 4 years)

The more expensive these get makes you stop wanting new phones.

i hate these people that votes for 3 years os update and change their smartphone every 2 years. Looks like there is a lot of them and I wanted to say so much words bit I can't

If I had extra money to burn, I would change my phone every 3 years just because I can. I don't see the need to have the latest tech when it's fresh(and expensive).

In reality, I bought my first Android 4 years ago and before that I had a modern Nokia Symbian phone for a year, but I switched to Android because I wasn't satisfied with Nokia's last OS iteration. Before that, I used two Nokia smartphones for 9 years. Planning to buy a new phone at the end of this year.

So, my answer would be: 3-6-1-5 years.

Pretty hard to answer this sensible, as it is the availability of suitable hardware that limits my update frequency, and so it has been for years, as it is a matter if finding "the least bad compromise", not worse than what I got, rather than "finding the best device"...

                                    I´ll change if it either:
                                    a) Breaks
                                    b) something comes along as innovative.
                                    c) had it so long im getting sick and tired of it..

                                    a) rarely happes b) happens rarely, not much innovation going on to catch my eyes.
                                    c) also rarely happens. Android gets fun when root and custom ROMS are played with.

But my S8+ still rocks.. Keeping it another year..
