Analyst: more Nokia phones were sold in Q4 than HTC, Sony, Google or OnePlus phones

12 February 2018
Under the stewardship of HMD, the Nokia brand claimed the 11th place globally (and if you count feature phones, it was 6th).

Agreed! I find it funny when people say that Symbian was flawed. It was always fixable. It lived on

But it doesnt matter. The media has brainwashed the general population into believing that only Android phones are smart phones. Anything else would result in pre mature death.
iphone fans obviously arent a part of the general population

T, 14 Feb 2018Nokia is not truly back until it has its own OS. Google is ... moreCan't agree more. I'am unhappily stuck with Android since 2013. Custom ROMs and regular cache clearing- nothing helps. Haven't got hand on N9 yet but loved fluency of Symbian (especially Belle FP2, albeit most apps are already obsolete). But the crowd wants apps and nobody wants to leave their OS ecosystem (not like us former Symbian users, who can live with just min amount of apps). Sailfish is a distance, but hopefully possible, future.

tonymancs, 13 Feb 2018Our brand is definitely back in the game, our fanboy fight ... moreNokia is not truly back until it has its own OS. Google is trash.
Nokia should fork Android or buy out Sailfish. Only then will they be able to remove all bloatware.
Till then, we have to put up with Googles bloatware(play books, video, gmail app etc)

Our brand is definitely back in the game, our fanboy fight against disinformation has paid off. Hopefully they will get the Nokia 6 (2018) and Nokia 7 Plus with the right specs and the right price. Furthermore we still wait for Nokia 10 to make the final breakthrough.

I'm laughing whenever I see comments like, "but it's Chinese phones". Why? My good old Lumia 520 had "Made in China" written inside. That is a phone designed by Nokia, released by Nokia, before any acquisition talks. Want to look even more backward? My good old Nokia 5320 (yes, the one used S60v5) had "Made in China" written in it's back cover. My wife's Nokia 6220 classic (S60v3, candybar with zennon flash) also had "Made in China" written in it.

Those devices of mine, which were released across decades, were built in Nokia's facility in China, which recently was sold to Microsoft Mobile, a subsidiary of Microsoft. And then sold to FIH, a subsidiary of Foxconn, a Taiwanese company. The same origin with Asus, Acer, and the like... So if you think it was the same China like Xiaomi, Meizu, etc... Learn your geographic again please.

What is the common thing about those old Nokia devices and the new Nokia? They designed by the same people (ex Nokia employees who now work for HMD) and built at the same facility (ex Nokia facility which now owned by FIH). So much with all these "But it's a Chinese phone" bullsh*t.

If it has the Nokia branding (legally), the Nokia quality, and the Nokia durability - it might as well be a Nokia.

In the millennium era of the 2000s, They first invented those bizzare phones like the Nokia 7600 teardrop( That we usually cry), N gadget( More like the Game boy, but you can make phone calls), N-92 ( That turns into a Handycam phone) and fast forward in 2014 the Lumia 808 and 1020 ( 41mp madness megapixel!!!!)

Let's hope they do on their new Nokia Android phones with those Madness magical potion on their phone.

I did love the good old days of Nokia N-series phone and those early days of Series 30 OS phones. I did have on before, but can't remember what was it.

Anyways, I do especially love the new Nokia phones. They are just so reliable to use. # Iamstillusing Nokia 6!!!!

Yes pretty like how Nokia flooded the market, with a phone for all budgets. Who is a fan of Nokia will pretty much see this, they didn't change almost at all in their strategies.
So be assured that they will unveil in next months things like a successor to the monster 808 with 41mpx camera or all the other innovation that they brought on the market (Xenon flash, dual-LED flash, OIS, variable aperture, DNLA, micro HDMI, FM radio and FM transmitter, OLED screens, and so much more)

Good job for Nokia. I am still a "diehard Nokia fanboy" and shameless in admitting it. God I loved to use this old N86 with its outstanding shocking camera (1/2.3 with variable aperture, outperforming those shitty Galaxy all to the S4 about, and the N86 had OLED screen). Most of my friends where shocked as this N86 looked with its T9 keyboard like a phone of an other old era.

Indeed I didn't jump on the Windows bandwagon as I was a shame of using a Microsoft phone and a shame of what this Elop (aka Flop) was hurting the best company.
HMD did the very best steps : opening the Nokia Beta Labs as in the old days, a lot of partnership with Zeiss for example (I think doing partnership with companies with the dedicated job was one of the main reasons Nokia was excelling in almost all domains), keeping up with updates and the high quality hardware.

I hope they will keep innovation for this year and don't be an iPhone paper-weight copy cat (remember the Nokia E-series, or the Nokia 808, and etc, Nokia is the very boss of innovation). Still waiting for the return of FM-transmitter, alarm when phone off, so much things that I wouln't be able to cite all.

See, Nokia and HMD refused to join the trend of 18:9, no headphone jack and USB-C. Because of that, Nokia sold the most phone of 2017!!!!

I bet Haters must start to believe me, but still I don't trust anybody who hates Nokia.

In the coming years people in your left and right will all be using Nokias and you will still be like "but but but it is a chinese phone".. I'll say this once and for all.. Nokia phones are designed by HMD.. HMD is located in Finland just across the street of Nokia's HQ.. HMD execs are comprised of ex-Nokians.. Nokia phones are made by Foxconn specifically FIH.. The plant that they were using is actually Nokia's phone manufacturing plant bought by Microsoft and then sold to Foxconn.. Even Apple's iPhone is made by Foxconn.. In today's age most of the stuff on this planet is made in China.. Haven't you heard the adage? God made the world but everything else is made in China? This piece of news just shows that Nokia's resurgence is real.. Nokia will be on top within just this 3 years I promise

Anonymous, 13 Feb 2018This tells to me that people value the good OS update rate,... morewell samsung also provides regular updates, don't know about their midrage segment, but the high end (including S7) are receiving regular updates.

Considering HMD have about 6-7 devices with each device having multiple variants according to region, they are doing a great job with the updates.
Nokia 5,6,8 are already on Stable Oreo and also Nokia 8 is also getting 8.1 beta for testing.
