AnonD-731491, 04 Mar 2018Xz2 win easy, The s9 was a rehash without innovations, do... moreThe only thing that possibly "right" with the Sony is the curved back. That is the natural shape of the hand when holding a phone. But then they make it glossy and slippery and undo what they were trying to acheive.
But that's not all. They then went on remove other things too (3.5mm jack), change what was fine before (side FPS), and bring in unnecessary stuff (2:1 screen).
So unless your "win" means 1st prize for the worst phone (unless 1080p 960fps is the only deciding criteria), then no, this does not win.
I'm a fan of Sony's powerful compacts, and I wish they got it right, but this just seems a step backwards in so many ways.

Lex79, 04 Mar 2018Personally, I'd go with the Nokia 7 Plus. It's a mid ranger... more"new Sony Xperia's that changed everything except the one thing that needed changing (the camera's)"
Could not have said it better.
I've been waiting for something decent from Sony for over a year since I killed the screens on both Z3c and Z5c within a year..... But this is what they give us. They say less is more, but most of the time more is more.
So I'll move from S6E to S9+. And thats when Sony will release a competent CD Pro. Hopefully

Hayaan Mo Sila, 04 Mar 2018Will the XZ2 and XZ2 Compact be the best flagships if ever ... moreyea, but its ugly af. If they stuck to their omnibalance design, hell, if they kept the XZ premium design it'll probably work better

Fearghast, 04 Mar 2018Well, this MWC was a boring one.
Better Samsung S8
Better... more"Top notch Asus" :). Love the pun.
Agree with downgraded Xperia statement too.
Ideal phone still does not exist for me, but there's elements of the Samsung, Sony, and LG that are unique to each which are "better" in certain situations. Mainly dealing with the camera, but screens and other elements too.
But if one HAD to choose just ONE, then overall probably Samsung as the poll is already reflecting.

Will the XZ2 and XZ2 Compact be the best flagships if ever their redesign was good-looking?
If the looks is what we're basing for the best flagship this year, I've gotta say that this society is f*ck*d up.
I appreciate Samsung's variable aperture and the different way of capturing slow motion 960fps videos.
Stereo speakers are also nice welcome, and 4K @60fps and 1080p @240fps are also nice, but even the SD845 can do these. The performance is impressive, but knowing Samsung, software will hold it back again.
Other than that, still it's a S8/S8+ with just another camera on the back of the S9+.
Sony, on the other hand, made all necessary changes we've demanded.
-Higher STB Ratio
-Redesign (ugly or not, give the credit to where it's due)
-HDR BT.2020 screen (more advanced than HDR10)
-Working FP Scanner in all regions of the world
-Dynamic Vibration System (immerses the user into the content that he/she is seeing)
-louder and better stereo speakers (both on the front, and with smaller bezels, not even the S9/S9+ could have that)
-Qi Wireless Charging (yeah, Samsung has had this for years, but much like Samsung, Sony has had stereo speakers for years, so it's a 50-50)
-camera now records 960fps Slow motion videos in 1080p
-camera now records non-slow motion videos in HDR

As far as best flagship goes its not just specs or the upgrades as far as i am concerned.. I mean Asus took on the dreaded notch, which i did not like personally, sony went a redesign.. Perfectly normal, but their aftermarket service is just pathetic.. Samsung is going through a tick tock cycle, so only someone with s7 or older needs to look, and lg has given me so much trouble that I'm afraid to go back.. Considering that the s7 edge got me hooked on to bent screens i don't see me voting for anything else.. Since my vote will be biased I'm not voting for anyone

Anonymous, 04 Mar 2018Your amount of hate towards the s9 and bias towards Sony is... moreS9 don't really add anything either, it's pretty much boring phone, the variable aperture is still lackluster from what people expected, 4K@60fps and 1080p@240fps is default in sd845, stereo speaker but an earpiece+bottom firing one
The sony introduced many new thing like the HDR BT.2020 screen, HDR recording, the requested 1080p slow mo, reducing bezel while still maintaining front firing speaker, SDR to HDR upscale algorithm, and the VBS with it dedicated algorithm.
Back when the s8 came out, it easily nominated the best phone announced, although it's not announced at MWC

Anonymous, 04 Mar 2018Your amount of hate towards the s9 and bias towards Sony is... moreAll you just did was list specs... Am very sure full HD+ has never been an issue, you just want to complain because you are given the chance. same with this battrey size to body size ratio. Iphones have had bodies for bigger batteries but always had smaller ones anyways. Somebody here will say it's better optimization and that same person will forget the word optimization when talking about sony battery size.(Although it did score the most battery endurance in contrast to size with LCD screens, yet not optomised. Great). Enough of it already. You do realize all samsung did to the S8 was to add an Xperia XZP camera on it and call it S9 right?
You see, that's my issue with all these polls. The brand with the most fans will just always win. Irrespective of what they upgraded. Wait and see... the Note 9 or S10 will have a VBS added to it.
It's smarter to check the iterations of the lines in order to notice the upgrades. And did Nokia and LG just launch new flagships with SD835... LG should have learnt from this by now.
A whole Year of upgrade to the S8 and what Samsung did was to buy XZP cameras... Yeah, best MWC flagship.

I have been a long time Sony fan. But I have been tired of their old omnibalance design for 2, 3 years or so. Like also the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+.
But this was the time to go back to Sony so I did a pre-order on a Xperia XZ2.
Not a cheap phone, but the pricing was lower than the small Galaxy S9 and they bundled the deal with some wireless headphones.

AnonD-731491, 04 Mar 2018Xz2 win easy, The s9 was a rehash without innovations, do... moreYour amount of hate towards the s9 and bias towards Sony is astonishing. You're saying that XZ2 is very innovative when it didn't even add anything, even removed things. Their last phone, maybe innovative, but this one... no. Basic 1080p screen, basic specs, small battery for a thick phone, REMOVAL OF HEADPHONE JACK, At least Samsung introduced something new (Variable aperture). You're also saying that the s9 does less things than your mobile. I find it hard to believe as it's the most complete phone to this day.
