alienufoweird, 05 Mar 2018Seeing as how they can barely keep up with updating the S8 ... moreSamsung themselves must be confused with their own product lines they do not know which to update or not.

Just because they have a phone on a monthly update list, does not mean you would get monthly updates. I have a note 8 and the last update I got was in December last year. Three months are gone and looks like they won't be giving one anytime soon.

Ankit, 05 Mar 2018This move will push buyers further away from buying Samsung... moreWish that was the case. The regular people don’t care about updates, and Samsung gives free phones to all tech “journalists” that regular people know Samsung by brand alone, and they will buy it because it is being recommended by all the bribed tech “journalists.”

Lies. I have the 2017 A5, and no, it didn’t get monthly updates. Heck, it didn’t even receive the specter/meltdown fix yet. Never going to give money to Samsung anymore.
Samsung is a big liar. And any tech bloggers raving about Samsung is because they get a free review phone.

Is it really that surprising considering the A7 2017 also just gets quarterly updates? The A8+ is the A7 series successor, while the A8 is the A5 series successor.

This move will push buyers further away from buying Samsung devices who already are not sure of buying a Samsung device. I was in love with my A8+ but I am very concerned about my device's security update. I have to plan an alternative now.

What the hell? Even my Huawei Mate 9 gets updates more frequently and it's an old phone now. January patch arrived recently and got Oreo back in 2017 with Treble enabled.

T-Mobile has confirmed that Oreo was made for the S6 and is now completw, waiting for testing and for the S8 Snapdragon to go out of Beta (and presumably the S9 to be in stores) to release it.

even their flagship S8 differs a lot on regions, it could be weeks or even months on a very unfortunate region.

AnonD-666414, 05 Mar 2018Monthly?? LOL i didn't get any securty update to my S7 afte... moreOn my S7 I have monthly patches. Got Spectre/Meltdown/January patch at the beginning of February, and I got the Feb patch on the 25th (which updated the Weather app with the S8 version), and that's the same story since the beginning, even for the S6 right now gets monthly patches. It all comes down to your carrier. But I am aware that in Europe the SW release is a mess. They do precise after all that monthly patches are not a possibility depending on the carrier and the area. I am in Canada.
